All they did was to wash, change oil ( which was pumped out of a drum into a dirty looking measure ) and the oil filter ( which most certainly didn't look original ), topped up the coolant when I countlessly asked them to do it and that was all.

When I asked about cleaning of the air filter, the guy replied that in AS200 and RS200 the air filter isn't cleaned...it is simply replaced after every 20k kilometers.
On showing him the service manual which stated cleaning of the air filter element, he blatantly replied, "Sir ye sab bakwas hai, hum Bajaj se training kar ke aaye hain..bohot saal se service kar rhe hain."

This was the first and probably the last service at a Bajaj ASC. I don't care if the service is free or paid, the service quality should be top notch. Any members here know any good service center in Gurgaon or Delhi where the 200 can be taken care of properly??

One thing I forgot to mention, instead of a chain spray, the service guy lubed up the chain with used engine oil which I believe is causing some chain noise when i let go the throttle. Should I get the chain cleaned again and lube it with a proper chain spray?

You are a lucky one sir!

Let me share my experience. Armed with my salary, I went ahead to book my AS200 once and for all!
Called up every showroom in Hyderabad, looking for the red AS. As luck would have it, the red was out of stock in the entire city!

Visited Talwar Bajaj at Kukatpally to a test drive. The showroom head didn't even have the courtesy to meet me. He had his lunch for the entire 2 hours I was in the showroom!
Interesting fact was, I was offered a Test Drive in a brand new AS kept in their godown! And the same vehicle is going to be sold to some poor, unknowing chap!
Come to think of it, how does one safeguard himself from this? how do we know that our bike isn't a test driven/ Show room piece?

      First ride experience :-
      • The big looks HUGE! Towering in height and width.
      • Seat is really high. I had read about it online, but being 5' 10"+ , thought I would manage it easily....boy was I wrong! Took me by surprise actually, but nothing unmanageable.
      • High seat + polished floor = Disaster!
      • Weight was quite ok, even though it looks bulky. Rode with heavy pillion, weight not felt on arms/back.
      • Comfy + Sporty riding position.
      • Foot levers positioned quite high. Felt a little awkward at first but you get used to it on the go.
      • Light clutch action.
      • Gear shifts, though not ultra smooth n 'clicky' like a Honda, were quite good. Had a few false neutrals from 1-2 though.
      • Zero/Nil vibrations from handlebar and footpegs, but a buzzing from the seat! Bum got a mild massage! Is this normal for the AS/NS 200 family?
      • Exhaust note is good, nothing spectacular, but thankfully not 'Auto-like' like the Dukes! (Waiting for a hail of abuses from Dukers)
      • Build quality acceptable.
      • Only came with EuroGrips All AS200 models were shod with Eurogrips sadly. Dealer said no chance of MRFs any time soon!
      • Confused about the windscreen. Heard it was quite good, but felt windblast on shoulders/head. @anand.js, @xttony your views?

Almost all dealers are trying to push the Plasma Blue, Black models. I was waiting for the red, but it seems like a distant dream.
      Are the AS200 colours metallic?

I found few more problems in my bike firstly the front brake pipe gets jammed between the fairing and fork when the handle is turned completely towards the left and there is a sound coming from the fairing when the bike is taken over speed breakers or even small potholes.

My first service has to be done this weekend can anyone suggest a good service center in Bangalore.

            1. Autoservice - BSK
            2. Khivraj - Kasturba road

My fairing was making noise too, found one panel was loose. Its better after I fixed it.

While going over bumps, the front suspension itself makes rubbery noise, I haven't heard the faring clatter yet after I fixed it. The cables are a mess, they are not bound together and they scrape the fairings internal plactics happily, over time the cable insulation might give away leading to issues. Ask the service center to tape up the exposed wires and bind them together.

            >> Bike updates >> I have covered about 1.3K kms now, timing chain noise is evident. Hoping it just requires a tweak to fix. Have started pushing the bike occasionally to about 7.5K. Planning to change oil to Motul Mineral oil at 2K. Under close observation, the plastic quality seems to be a notch below the P220. The plastics are really thin, however they are not flimsy.

Finally took the plunge today. Had set my mind on a Red AS200, so jumped at the opportunity to snag it!
No accessories given by the showroom. Anna said "High End model saar..... No need for accessories!"

Mild vibrations on the right foot peg felt. Haven't crossed 4~5K rpm.
Any suggestions for proper run-in? Do's and Don'ts?

IMo, Just follow the manual as what it says. But do, vary the rpms and dont stick to one gear and one speed. Try to vary them between gears and speeds at all gears keeping the limiter in check at all times.

feed it with good fuel and try to stick on to it. Few may suggest, Running-in is required only for fisrt 250 kms and we can rip off the machine. I dont second that. I go by what it says in the given bible.

Its kinda tough to stick to what the user manual says. Bajaj suggests 47kmph on top gear, in reality thats almost lugging the engine, if you drop speed for some reason and dont down shift quickly you will lug and stall.

I have followed the below pattern for my last 3 bikes including this one

                  1. First 50 - 100/200 kms go easy on the engine hold it under 4K RPM. (Change engine Oil - Optional if you dont want to)
                  2. Upto 1st Service (750kms) / 1000kms - keep the engine under 5.5K RPM
                  3. 1000 - 2000 kms - 5.5K rpm to 6.5K RPM Tops. Occasionally revving upto 8~9K RPM (not holding that more than few seconds)
                  4. Instead of looking at the speed, keep an eye on the RPM.
                  5. First 500-750 kms keep it running in the city or narrow state highways. 4 Lane highway/express way trips will not give you the oppertunity to traverse through the gears.
                  6. Keep shifting the gears up and down, use engine braking.
                  7. Get rid of the Bajaj oil once you are at 2K odd kms. Switch to Shell or Motul mineral oil.
                  8. Post 5K kms switch over to Semi- Synth Oil.

But whatever you do, you will still have a doubt lurking in your mind if you are doing it right. Ignore that thought

As long as you are not doing something crazy like revving the engine to redline all the time, there isnt much harm you can do to it.

The foot levers are high enough to make your ride uncomfortable, but to the Bajaj service center guys it is just fine. I tried to fix it myself but ran into a few problems.

For the gear lever it you try to rotate the the link connected to the gear lever the gear lever goes down too much(the gears on the shaft stops you to rotate freely) (but it was fine for me) but the gear link(the rod connecting the gear lever to the gear shaft) starts hitting the gear lever itself. I also tried to flip the rod but ended up with the rod rubbing against the bolts holding the side stand. For the perfect positioning of the gear lever you need something like this.

This thing is available in P220, Apache, Gs150R and almost all other bikes.

For the brake lever, I tried to lower it but the initial position where it stays when it is not being depressed remains the same so I had to press a longer distance to engage the brakes. Anyway just placed a nut to the plate where the brake lever hits the body to lower initial position of the lever. I adjusted the brake light accordingly.

This what the service center guys(Kengeri, Bangalore) told me when I asked them to fix the levers.
Bhaiya gear nahi lagega and bhaiya brake ka efficiency ghat jayega.

If you are going to sit for day and watch your service being done then go to Kengeri. It is at the corner of where Uttarahalli-Kengeri main road meets with Mysore road. But they're not experienced(although I don't know this but I am sure they are same as any other bajaj service center).

For the first 1000kms keep the bike under 5K better if you keep at 4K but knowing the lack of torque in the bike it can be quite challenging. For Another 1000kms keep the bike under 6K rpm.

Never red line this bike. Also always heat up the engine nicely to enjoy a smooth ride.(comparitively smooth)

Almost all the points covered by members but I'll my 2 cents too :

                        1. Lugging is more dangerous than crossing the 4000 RPM line. Keep that in mind and do not be lazy/hesitant in downshifting when speed goes down.

                        2. When you start the bike first time in the day, idle the engine for 1 min before riding.

                        3. If planning a long ride, rest the bike after every 30 min.

                        4. Do not run the bike at same RPM for too long.

I was trying to overtake a pesky splendor and didnt even realise that I had touched 65 km/hr! I thought "Oh no!"
Then I realised that this is being silly.... As long we are not trying to destroy the engine from day 1, I guess it should hold good.

When should the oil be changed? 200~250 kms? Which oil do you suggest for the initial running in period?

When should the oil be changed? 200~250 kms? Which oil do you suggest for the initial running in period?
Around 100-150 odd Kms should be good to change your engine oil there is no set guideline on this though. The idea is to drain away any metal shavings or debris As soon as possible. However this is very minimal in modern engines, so its more for peace of mind. You can use the same bajaj oil till first service or maybe till 2000 kilometres after which u can shift to shell or motul.
mineral oil is good during the run in.

Yes, I feel so too..Lugging to be avoided at all costs! The bike wants you to pull it upwards of 5k and you have to use all your willpower to stay in line!

My extra 2 cents after the initial Exp :-
                              • Projectors are good, but not brilliant. I feel my previous Pulsar with 55W Osram had better focus and throw.
                              • As already said, wiring in the bikini-fairing are a complete mess! The bike doesn't even turn lock to lock without hitting something! Fix for this?
                              • Console, a little gimmicky with the Blue back-lights, sadly. White was a much classier accent.
                              • Indicators...weird as hell! So unlike anything I've ever used!
                              • Brakes are good, thought little on the spongy side....
                              • SUV like Turning radius spells terror when parking in tight spaces!

All in all, satisfied with my purchase! Sure love the attention it gets and the questions I get to answer!

peace of mind wins...will go over to the SC to get the oil changed.
I heard uphill rides also load the engine well and are beneficial for the run-in process? Myth or Fact?

Also, haven't heard/felt the Radiator fan switching on even once! How do I check whether its working properly or not?

I rode the bike pretty hard to get the radiator fan to work but I've already completed 1500kms at that time so just wait till the break-in period is over.
