Hi all,

I am Planning to ride to Pune from Chennai in my Gixxer SF. I am planning to divide the trip in 3 parts, 1) Chennai to Bangalore 2) Bangalore to Goa 3) Goa to Pune.

This is going to be my first solo road trip for such a long distance so I would love to get all the suggestions I can from here. I am not at all planning to ride it at night due to Gixxer's bad headlights. Please suggest anything you can, all preparations, any places to divert to which are worth seeing on the way. How to keep up the bike, intervals, maintenance etc.

My 4th service is due on 23 April, so should I take it for service before trip or after the trip. Till now I have only ridden it for 5100 kms only and 4th service should be done after 10,000kms or after 10 month(sadly my 10 months getting over on 23rd).
Please suggest if I should go for early service or only oil change would do.

As for teh Gears not slotting in properly, if its its simply a placebo effect so dont go dropping in Motul 7100 or ECSTAR R9000.

Gear shifts are really smooth on my bike, comparable to my previous Unicorn 160 and even my CD100. I'm using the stock Suzuki (Idemitsu) oil.

The clutch cable free play is an important factor.

Cool. Thanks guys for your valuable advice. I will wait till 10K for a complete flush.

Also get teh brakes bled from a mechanic who knows how to do it. SVC people dont know how to bleed the brakes.

Theres nothing like "ABS friendly". As long as its DOT4, it will be fine. Our Manual says DOT4, not sure what your manual says.

The level of brake fluid should be between High and low level which is fine by looking at your rear brake master cylinder. It should only be refilled only if your Brake fluid level is below the marked Low level in master cylinder of both front and rear.
Further if you want to replace you can go ahead at any point but its useless.
Even i have clocked 8k on my sf and i have no issues with level of brake fluid level.
Better you can refill at 10k on odo which will be useful
Also, the brake fluid is not at all related to ABS.

Thank so much for your reply. The reason for this question is due to i'm having average brake fluid at rear brake reservoir. So i'm wondering which brand to use for the top up.

My Odometer clocked at 4500 now and i have a pending service at 5000-5500 KM (i live in a different country) and extra costing going for a new brand is bearable to me bro. But my question is whether this ABS friendly fluid will give me same performance or may be little bit enhance performance. If not then i can top up the tank with Lockhead DOT 3 fluid.

I had booked it last week and finally got the bike yesterday!

Gixxer SF FI ABS. It's so extremely comfortable to ride I'm stunned. I expected it to be lighter but not such a breeze.

Only issue I've got so far is occasionally the gear shift lever is not shifting properly, blanking the shift indicator on the instrument cluster. Any ideas?

Do give a detailed writing of your experience so far. (it seems like you havent yet discovered the magic behind SF's handling)

As for teh Gears not slotting in properly, if its between 1st and 2nd then its normal. You have to pull the shifter significantly to go from 1st to 2nd otherwise it will stay somewhere between Neutral and 2nd. Gearbox is not the best in the Gixxer compared to Hornet's GB for instance. No amount of any oil will fix it. If you feel like you are getting smoother shifts with an expensive oil, its simply a placebo effect so dont go dropping in Motul 7100 or ECSTAR R9000.

Disc brake fluid lasts for atleast 2 years after which you need to bleed the brakes with new brake oil can be any dot3 or dot4.
In practical usage day to day city life also it should lasts for 2 years before it needs a change.
And there is nothing special related to abs with brake fluid .
Btw i don't recommend changing it by now because it will be wastage of money and disc fluid which is not even used properly.

I have a new query to ask from you. Since I have a ABS model bike and ride in heavy city traffic i was thinking to change my brake fluid (complete flush) and fill with following.

Liqui Moly Brake Fluid Dot 4



Their description says following:

Ideally suited to use with all disk and drum brake systems, as well as motor vehicle clutch systems for which a synthetic brake fluid of this specification is prescribed. The brake fluid is also ideally suited to use in ABS brake systems.

So will this be a good idea or shall I stick with stock brake fluid brand.? Since i live in a different country, please mention which brand they use at initial handover to the customer.

Hello Guys,
Today I noticed some oil on the engine, not sure if its a leak.
It will we of great help if you guys know how to solve this issue or have faced similar issue in the past.
Mine is SF2015 edition. Please let me know what need to be done.

I had same problem, I went to a local mechanic, who said the engine packing has to be changed.

The packing cost you around 50 INR which you have to get from suzuki showroom and service charges costs you around 100 INR (I had my chain tightened and brake overhauled, air filter cleaned etc in 100 INR).

Just ask the mechanic to apply extra gasket making cream and tight the cover well.

Time required 20 mins with guarantied results of no leaks.
