Hi all, new Gixxer SF-Fi ABS Owner. I've noticed an issue with the front dome. It is crooked and is pointed towards the right. I went to the SVC this morning, they said it was a handle fitting issue and have sorted it. Although the headlight, and front wheel are aligned now from a front view. When seated, the assembly still appears pointed more towards the right something which they've agreed too as well but say they cannot do anything about it.

I went to the dealership as well and they have confirmed the front assembly has a defect and are unsure about what to do. I raised a complaint with Suzuki via the helpline but they're sleeping over it. I clicked a picture of the joint beneath the handle assembly and it looks the soldering/welding is not centered.

Your help would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Yes, you are correct. They are not a big deal since they are not causing any technical problems on the road. The ride-ability is not affected by those 2 misalignments somehow. BUT whenever you look at the bike, it screams out the misalignments. I could be anal about it, but so be it.

A straight pipe with a bend in it wouldnt be called a straight pipe anymore would it be?

I have a question, right now I have noticed that the bike's RPM light is up at about 4500RPM is this how it remains or is this just a thing until 1st/2nd service? I'm curious to know how it works, should I stop accelerating if the RPM light is up?

You can change the RPM level for the shift light. Read your owners manual. It also serves as a good indicator for staying within the limit until break in is over

EDIT: Also, what are the current headlamp replacement recommendations? The stock one doesn't seem very powerful to me and it's also the old yellow and I've gotten used to the nice white light.

Hi all,

I am Planning to ride to Pune from Chennai in my Gixxer SF. I am planning to divide the trip in 3 parts, 1) Chennai to Bangalore 2) Bangalore to Goa 3) Goa to Pune.

This is going to be my first solo road trip for such a long distance so I would love to get all the suggestions I can from here. I am not at all planning to ride it at night due to Gixxer's bad headlights. Please suggest anything you can, all preparations, any places to divert to which are worth seeing on the way. How to keep up the bike, intervals, maintenance etc.

My 4th service is due on 23 April, so should I take it for service before trip or after the trip. Till now I have only ridden it for 5100 kms only and 4th service should be done after 10,000kms or after 10 month(sadly my 10 months getting over on 23rd).
Please suggest if I should go for early service or only oil change would do.

See basic thing is carrying tubeless tires puncture repair kit, extra clutch and accelerator cables, proper documentation (including a recent emission test, cops on the highway are adamant in taking money however they can), and chain spray bottle. Keep hydrated, take a break every 75 kms or 1 hour of riding.
Regarding places, well, in Maps I've seen that your going through Dabbaspet, so I would suggest a slight detour to Devarayana Durga. Epic curves. Also, your going through Chitradurga so you can visit the fort. Rest of the places I don't know, someone here can help out. Cheers.

My suggestion would be to change it mate
I like many too had done this change to l.e.d but our reflector isn't made to focus the beam properly and thus it goes haywire blinding the oncoming traffic
And many l.e.d wont work properly ,i.e no passer
Better change to a 55/60w bulb
Which i had to done after seeing the results of l.e.d s
Believe me you cant be that guy who doesn't give a QUACK to the oncoming lane and flooding them with cool white 6000/8000 k lights
Dont be afraid to do so as it wont have any ill effects on your battery
Its tried and tested by multiple xbhpians including me
I am now running on Bosch 4100k 55/60w halogen bulb which gives me more than sufficient illumination and costs 400 a pair

Please let me know of the performance of Bosh bulb.. I heard that this as it is a 60W bulb it can cause problems to reostat.. Any problems to your battery..What is the cost of this bulb.. Is there any alternatives to this one..

I had same problem, I went to a local mechanic, who said the engine packing has to be changed.

The packing cost you around 50 INR which you have to get from suzuki showroom and service charges costs you around 100 INR (I had my chain tightened and brake overhauled, air filter cleaned etc in 100 INR).

Just ask the mechanic to apply extra gasket making cream and tight the cover well.

Time required 20 mins with guarantied results of no leaks.

I went to SVC and got the packing changed under extended warranty.. Wasn't charged a penny for it.. They applied gasket making cream on top of it.. Haven't seen leak after that.. Let's see how long that lasts..
Is this caused by the ECSTAR R9000 FS which I've been using first time...?
Never experienced the leak with Motul7100 10w40 earlier though..

Do give a detailed writing of your experience so far. (it seems like you havent yet discovered the magic behind SF's handling)

As for teh Gears not slotting in properly, if its between 1st and 2nd then its normal. You have to pull the shifter significantly to go from 1st to 2nd otherwise it will stay somewhere between Neutral and 2nd. Gearbox is not the best in the Gixxer compared to Hornet's GB for instance. No amount of any oil will fix it. If you feel like you are getting smoother shifts with an expensive oil, its simply a placebo effect so dont go dropping in Motul 7100 or ECSTAR R9000.

There isn't a whole lot of detailing to go into as of now, I'm an absolute novice rider and it's only been here for 3 days as of today. I'll write one when I have a good idea.

I haven't quite noticed where exactly the gear issue occurs, what I have noticed is at times you have to be quite hard on it otherwise the gear gets stuck, the indicator goes blank instead of showing N or a number.

None of the SVCs I tried here have Motul mineral. Tried many shops too, but none of them had it. Is it possible to send a couple of bottles over? I'd be grateful.

OH you were talking about Motul Mineral. Ask an SVC to stock it otherwise shoot Suzuki an Email.

I dont know about shipping you a couple of bottles. I dont usually have that kind of time to do it. Also I am not sure if the SVC will allow me to buy multiple bottles. But try doing what I said and see if the SVCs stock them.

Full synths having a tendency to leak is actually a very outdated fact. That used to be the case if you used an FS oil in engines built when only Mineral oils were a majority meaning old bikes.

You can actually buy those bottles from an ASC

No I meant I've experienced oil leaks with the full Synths I have used so far (shell advance ultra, Motul 7100 and the Ecstar). Had to change the head gasket each time. I measured the quantity accurately each time using a graduated cylinder.

Decided not to go back to full synths as they don't justify the cost.

None of the SVCs I tried here have Motul mineral. Tried many shops too, but none of them had it. Is it possible to send a couple of bottles over? I'd be grateful.

We each had a slightly different shift pattern
We each tested each others bikes
We each tested the shifts across a variety of RPMs (there usually is a sweet spot for shifting, this bike doesnt have one)
We each tested with Motul Mineral, Idemitsu SS, Motul 7100. As for ECSTAR R9000. I had all 3 of us test only my bike since I was teh first one in Hyderabad (probably in INdia too xD) to get the R9000.

At the end we all decided to stick with Motul Mineral which costs 293INR and has a drain interval of 4000kms.

P.S.1: Theres no improvement in performance in anyway. No improvement in heat dissipation either.
P.S.2: Motul 7100 is"marginally" smoother, but not enough to justify dropping ~700INR for a 1 liter bottle. Besides Motul 7100 is not approved for usage in the Gixxer by SMIPL

Can't dispute those, although I can go through my experience.

I rode my gixxer, a friend's SF, FZ25, unicorn 150 and a Hornet on a recent ride.

The Hondas had the smoothest shifting and overall best gearbox IMO (I still can't forget my unicorn 160). My gixxer wasn't far behind. The FZ25 had smooth upshifting, but had clunky downshifts (with rev matching) and false neutrals (the real ones).

The SF gearbox was clunky and had a mind of it's own (matched the comments made on the forum). I'm not sure what's different, this bike had covered 9000kms and mine 14000kms. The owner commented about how smooth and precise (precise - no misshifts, false neutrals, hard to put into neutral, etc.) the gearshifts were in mine.

Coming to the oils, 7100 heated up more in traffic and the engine felt slightly coarse.

Also what I noticed is that the full synths had a propensity to leak through the valve cover and the head gasket.

Found this and 300v on the Suzuki site. Recommended for the bigger bikes I assume.

Random - the FZ25 owner calls the gixxers "electrics" due to the lack of perceivable vibrations/roughness.

Gear shift smoothness is a subjective factor. Every person has a different way of shifting and perceiving the shifts. Me and a couple of my Gixxer track buddies did an objective test and established that the Gearbox on the gixxer is indeed S***

Gear shifts are really smooth on my bike, comparable to my previous Unicorn 160 and even my CD100. I'm using the stock Suzuki (Idemitsu) oil.
