That's a very difficult question to answer, as you said it's 5 years old now and it's not a cheap thing that you can toss out when the newer model comes out like say 4 months later, then you'll be filled with buyer's remorse and hate your decision. The only suggestion I can possibly give look into some other recent 150cc bike, if Gixxer is say top of the line, then obviously there's gotta be someone in the 2nd and 3rd place and that doesn't make them bad.


As for the 250, I have asked some Suzuki dealers I know personally and what I've got from them is that it's gonna be launching after Diwali this year. And that Suzuki is shifting their 250 production to India and I feel mixed about that because I am fairly interested in owning a GSX250R say 2-3 years down the line but not if it's a localised cheap variant with a single cylinder and no liquid cooling etc etc - all the things that make it a sexy premium 250 globally. I want(in the future) a GSX not a Gixxer basically.

I have a soft spot for Full faired bikes and currently the SF is what appeals to me the most. There are no other full faired bikes in this segment that I like. There's R15 V3 but that's super sporty and I don't like that. The pulsar RS 200 is a more comfortable option but the crazy vibrations are a turn-off for me. There was the CBR 150r but that's discontinued for now, no official word on when it's coming back. So currently there are no bikes in the 2nd or 3rd place.
And yes I don't want to hate making that decision if a newer model comes next year and that's why I'm utterly perplexed.
I have my heart on the RTR 2004V (although naked, it's a beautiful machine) but that also has a lot of vibrations so that's a deal breaker.

Should I buy the existing Gixxer SF?
P.s. the Gixxer was launched first and afterwards the SF was launched. On motorbeam as well as autocar they only mention the Gixxer; no mention of SF (I'm interested in SF)
So is it possible that they might only update the Gixxer first so as in to wait for the general public's reaction and acceptance and then If that succeeds they might update and launch the SF.
Tell me what you guys think?

Hey Guys, Purna here
I'm new here but I'd like your suggestion regarding this bike.
I've been reading through this bikes' ownership review for more than a year now. I'm looking to buy this bike and have been saving for it.
The problem is the Gixxer has reached its design lifetime, it will be 5 years old in 2019 since it launched; without any major design upgrades (only color and sticker changes) so motorbeam, autocar and others claim they've had a word with Suzuki and they plan to update the Gixxer and there's supposed to be major updates to the body (cosmetic updates) not so much to the engine though.
So my question to you guys is:
Should I wait for the new Gixxer launch? (No official word from Suzuki yet; spoke to a manager in Bombay and he confirmed he hasn't had any confirmation from Suzuki about Gixxer 155. Gixxer 250 however is confirmed and coming next year)
Or

Bought this blue bird(SF) a week ago and till now feeling good while riding, handling is quiet well
I got carb+ABS version and it gave me confidence while braking, it definitely works
One issue i see is the headlight is not that much powerful, I mean i don't feel confidence with this light
Earlier I was riding Avenger220 and light was pretty much good , far better than gixxer i would say.

Can anyone give me some pointer upgrading headlight of gixxer SF

I forgot to update regarding this. Basically nothing really happened. Suzuki checked it out and said it was within spec and not a manufacturing defect as expected.It's a minor quip and I pretty much forgot about it.

Thats what I expected. They probably wont take any action unless it gets attention in the media.

Hello guys, facing a strange issue. Had cleaned my bike last week at home. Now all of a sudden the bike does not power on instantly, have to rotate the key 2 to 3 times then the bike powers on. Also while riding yesterday, the bike powered off suddenly and accelerator stopped responding, then after 2 attempts of switching off and switching on the power came back on. After that it was fine. This is happening once or twice daily. Anyone else ever faced this issue?? How was it fixed??

P. S: I own a sf fi abs model.

Leave your bike in sun for an hour or two. Lube the ignition key hole with some good quality oil. And you should be fine unless some other component is messed up.

So today I got my bike inspected by the Suzuki Service Engineer of my region and he measured things and said the fairing seems to be in alignment even though I showed him visually that it's not and he acknowledged that the brace at the front is bent but he said he can't say why because he's not familiar with the intricacies of the design and his job is to see whether it's useable or not. He measured it and found it satisfactory but I didn't feel it was. He also did what I asked - drive it a little while keeping the handlebar in line with the bent pipe and as expected it was not moving straight.

Then it was compared to a brand new brace and that too has the same bend as we've found out in the earlier posts on this thread. So they concluded it's designed that way and not a defect in my particular bike(which we already know).

However since I wasn't satisfied with their answer what they've done is taken pictures of my bike from several angles and submitted a report(FTR?, FDR?) and sent it to the relevant department and the dealership guy who did the report told me this report also goes to Suzuki Japan.

Now I don't know what will happen but I've gone through the proper channel at least so we'll see...

Been using a Michelin Pilot Street Radial on the front for about 18.5k kms (about a year and 9 months) and I'm pretty satisfied with it. Had to upsize to a 110/70 since it isn't available in the stock 100/80 size.

Try spraying some WD-40 inside the key-hole. I remember coming across this issue before my previous service, and it got resolved on it's own after that. They lube the key-hole with oil or something in every service so that must've solved it.

Yep! The headlight is almost always inadequate especially on highways and on rainy days! A few people have upgraded to 55W halogen bulbs from the stock 35W bulb and they seem content, but I have no idea of how that might impact the stock wiring, so I still haven't tried it myself.

As far as service in Mumbai goes, I used to live in Thane and the SVC there (Kiran Suzuki) was pretty incompetent in a few things. They once painted a pair of blue panels instead of procuring the original SP-Edition Grey panels when I had an accident in 2016. There was a difference in colour which I found out later, and when I complained, they were nice enough to procure original panels and replace them. Not bad, but not anything great either.
Idk about Yamaha, I believe there are again, a lot of mixed reviews about the after-sales service.

Do note : The Gixxer has a little 'gruff' sounding engine which isn't the case with the Yamaha. I bought the Gixxer SF because it's supposedly an all-rounder bike, good FE, fully-faired, nice performance and good handling. But at highway speeds of 75-80 kmph and above, the engine does seem to get a little loud for my liking. Maybe this won't be the case with the Yamaha offerings, but at times when I'm stuck in traffic I really wish the engine didn't have that 'gruff' sound and feel to it.

I'd recommend opting for a 200cc bike if you have the budget for it. Yes, the mileage will be lesser than bikes in the 150cc class but for that occasional long tour, your highway cruise will be a tad less tiring because overtaking vehicles becomes a tad easier and you can cruise at a slightly higher speed without the engine sounding stressed out.

Anyway, once you test ride the bikes, you'll probably be able to choose a little more easily. Do visit the SVCs and speak to a couple of technicians if you feel like it! It might help!

Update : Did not realise you already decided to buy it until I read further! Did you get the bike yet?

The stock headlight is not so good at night riding , hence i have upgraded it to Led bulb of 36w... More details are in below video....
