Re: Help needed - Bajaj CT 100

I am a new user to this forum. I own Bajaj CT 100 for the last 12 years and it has only run 28k since I mainly used it to commute to office and also I was abroad for sometime so did not use my bike much. I returned to India 2 months ago and I was pretty disappointed to see my bike's performance. It just gives a mileage of 35 mpl and also the fuel gauge is not working. I am more worried about the mileage since I used to get a mileage around 70 mpl with the same bike before I went abroad. My mechanic did a mileage tuning couple of times but still the same 35 mpl. As far riding the bike, the one difference I noticed is the rev sound when I kick start the bike without giving any throttle and also the rev sound with bike moving for some distance while shifting the gears to stop. Even though the rev sound is stopped after my mechanic did something but the mileage continues to be an issue. its still the same 35k. My mechanic suggested to change the carburetor for mileage but I am not sure that will fix the mileage problem. There are other issues like fuel gauge not working and weak battery. Do I have an option of fixing these issues in a less budget? I do not want to continue spending much if it's really not worth it. Is this a time that I should consider buying a new bike instead of spending much on my current bike? Your answer will be much helpful. Thanks!
fuel efficiency depends upon fuel supply & air supply. clean the carburettor throughout (dip it in acetone for a night) ,change the air filter .

unused bikes have this kind of problem due to clogged carburettor .

Does your bike emit black smoke when the throttle is high? If black smoke, then carb may need replacement. Are you a self help person? If so, get a can of WD40.

      Fuel gauge issue :
Remove your seat, there is a connector for fuel gauge sensor. Unplug it, clean it, spray the brass electrode bit with WD40 and refit it. Check if fuel gauge starts working. If not, you will have to disassemble your headlight fairing area, identify the fuel gauge and speedometer connector, unplug it, clean it, spray it and refit it.

Fuel efficiency issue : Carburettor replacement is fastest option. A original Keihin carburettor should not cost you more than INR 1200.
Alternatively, if you are not sure where the problem lies, rule of thumb, white smoke - block piston replacement, black smoke - carburettor repair / replacement. For carburettor repair, you will need the jet holder kit, which isn't available anywhere. In case you wish yo try for the same and you want part nos., I can help you with that. I think I had uploaded a spare parts catalogue earlier. Refer to that post. If you need any help, just ping me, I will help you out.

I am in a situation if I throttle a little high my CT 100 emits a black smoke. Mileage is 37 km/pl average but it used to give 65 km/ph or more when there was no black smoke issue. One mechanic says bike needs a bore work and costs around Rs 4000. Another Mechanic (known person) says black smoke means Carb needs a replacement. I am planning to go with Carb replacement. Do you know where I can find a good carb for Bajaj CT 100 in Chennai? Any suggestions. This is my first bike (bought in 2005) ran only 31k and i plan to keep it with me.

The problem is likely from your carburettor. I am not from Chennai hence can't help with local dealer. Check the Bajaj ASC near you. They should have it with them.

          Part no. DU 1210 09

The MRP including tax is Rs.1350/-.

Let me know if you want any further help.

One other question, my bike's Headlight doom glass has recently broken due to a head on collision with a scooter coming in the opposite direction. The scooter had a lorry beside him and I was taking right in front of the lorry. Scooter wala and myself could not see each other and he was trying to overtake the lorry and he hit me head on. My headlight doom glass was broken. I heard the glass comes with the doom. Is there a possible way to just replace the glass instead of the full doom? My doom is in a very good condition.

You would require the headlight assembly for replacement. The catalogue shows a separate lens part no. for it. However I feel that it will need to be sealed to prevent water entry etc.

Even though your reflector is good, you probably will still have to get the headlight assembly replaced due to the broken lens, as spares retailers may not end up keeping this part.

There are different part nos. for the same and you will probably have to disassemble and take the broken part while buying the replacement. Refer part no. 1 & 22. Your headlight lens shows the part no. under the Bajaj logo. Just check that too.

All the best. Hoping for a speedy recovery for your bike.

Ok. Temporarily I will first seal the broken lens. What sealing tape do you recommend?

How can i disassemble the headlight? Is there any "how to do" video? Also, do you know how much it would cost (roughly) for this replacement? Thanks for your great help!

I checked at the Bajaj Authorized Spares shop, they don't stock just the lens. The Trapezoidal headlight assembly will cost approximately INR 550/-.

Sealing tape, I haven't had the opportunity to use it. Hence don't know. However try a 4" thick scotch tape (Transparent Cello tape) alongwith transparent plastic sheet.

Regarding the dismantling of the headlight and fairing, I might have some how to images. Let me check and revert.

Removing it is the easy part, replacing will be a slight challenge.

Is INR 550/- just the cost to assemble the headlight? Anyways, still don't know where to find the lens. Let me check with the Spare shops near my place tomorrow. I bought the Carburetor today (MRP - 1345) from Bajaj Authorized Spare shop but they gave me the Carburetor belonging to Platina (Part no - DZ121006). They said that Carburetor will also fit CT 100. I will give my bike to the mechanic tomorrow to change the Carburetor. Hope, I will also replace the headlight lens soon

It is the cost of the spare part i.e. reflector + lens. Same place. Bajaj spares dealer who gave you the carburettor, he would be stocking this too. I am not certain w.r.t. Platina carburettor. Theoretically it should. All the best. Do let me know how things go...

                                Hi Guys,

It was interesting to go through your posts since I ride a CT100B and did wonder at times how different it would feel like to ride some of the other variants, especially the ones with ExhausTEC.

I used to ride a Discover 100 4G and it came with ExhausTEC, the low end performance was astounding which I dearly miss on my CT100B, the Platina 100 on the other hand which ran off a motor similar to the CT100 and came with ExhausTEC also had good low end performance. even better than the Discover 100 4G. Which has now brought me to believe that ExhausTEC does make a noticeable impact with respect to low end performance.

Now coming to your carbs, I'm doubtful whether the ExhausTEC and non-ExhausTEC variants share the same carb and jets, as the Platina, CT100, 4S Champion etc share the same motor it would be highly likely that they also share the same carb(highly likely), but would they share the same jetting configuration as well?

Please shed some light on the matter if you know better. Thanks
