  • Re: Interceptor 650 Twin

It's been a fabulous 40 days of ownership..

It feels like the motorcycle is tailored for me. The stock cushioning is just right, firm and soft at the right places. Never felt any fatigue even after 2-3 hours of riding. The riding position and foot peg posture is perfect for me. The horn is refined yet loud enough for our Indian conditions. The horn makes even trucks and buses to sometimes give way. Setting the rear shocks preload at 2 for solo rides suits me nicely. Love the SUV like high seating position helps tremendously for road visibility and increases your confidence.

Though the exhaust note has become more raw and aggressive after crossing 1000kms, I feel it could've been a bit more louder. Headlamps get the job done though I feel the US spec clear lens would slightly increase the brightness and lateral visibility. Stock mirrors offer adequate rear vision but tend to slightly blur after 90kmph.

The only gripe I have is in the high-speed stability. The Interceptor doesn't have the rock solid feeling of its cafe racer twin at speeds above 140kmph. Upto 140 it's steady like an anchor, but it wants you to back off after this zone. It feels nervous. This could easily be tweaked if we can increase the preload of the front forks somehow. Whereas Continental GT650 went above this speed zone without an issue mainly due to the front bias riding posture.

    Cheers!

Delhi seats have been made by khajanchi at high cost and trust me as per users it is not worth it.

What is the idling rpm of Interceptor 650? Ours show 1,500 at the cold starting and then, settles around 1200 rpm. This is after the first service at the Bangalore company service centre. Is it okay? Existing owners, kindly clarify. My Thunderbird 500's idling is always around 1,000 rpm. But then, there are many differences between them.

Yes sir once it warms up it settles at 1200 rpm on cold engine it is jumping up and down at 1500.

Thanks a lot for the quick clarification, Ijs. When my son raised this issue with the service advisor, he was told that all super bikes are tuned like that.

Well I have no clue about super bikes, but this is a strategy that Honda follows on its cars and fuel injected bikes. My CBR idles at 2000 rpm when cold and later comes down to 1400-1500 rpm once it is warm enough.

It is also a strategy to lower emissions, as catalytic converters work with their optimum efficiency only after 300-400 degree C. So to quickly get to that temperature, many auto makers are forced to adopt this strategy, and they burn more fuel to get to this temperature sooner.

I have observed that my bike makes a little loud noise when changing gears or engaging first gear. Anyone else observed this noise in their bike? Also sometimes when downshifting from 6th gear to 3rd or 2nd gear, the doesn't slot in perfectly.

Before first service there was some play but i got it adjusted. But still i hear the 'tak' noise when i engage the 1st gear or cycle through the gears.

There should be at least 2 to 4mm of play in the clutch. If the play is zero the do get it rectified. Slightly lose play is any day better than tight clutch.
First adjust the play and check otherwise get the gears inspected.

I think there is 2-3mm play in the clutch lever. But i am curious to know that is it my bike only that is making this 'tak' noise on gear changes or other people are also having the same sound during gear chamge.

In the first gear mild tak is normal, my Dominar use to have a massive thud in first gear and usually higher cc high revving motorcycle have this thud. Other gears are quiet on my Sirius(int650).
