  • Re: Interceptor 650 Twin

Perhaps because I shifted from the rajdoot, it feels well, underwhelming, hence my conclusion earlier.
160 kmph from a 650 is just an underutilization of the capability, I hope it does not follow the harley, all that size no performance just 'feel' which is a waste of petrol and creation of noise.
I think its a classic case of miss-reading the product. REs have never been known for making fast or performance bikes or razor sharp handlers. They have been using old school tech and selling on factors such as history, metal, macho, thump, leisure riding, etc. Even when they launched UCE500, its was highly under-powered for a 500cc mill. Himalayan LS 410 being all new engine is still very underpowered. 650 twins follow the same, and are underpowered for 650 twin pot engine, if you compare to its contemporaries like kawi 650 platform. They have always tried cashing in on the BRAND IMAGE and have been promoting leisure riding.
Going by history, with the 650 twins, they have come a long way. 650 twin is built to a cost. Its one of the best engines release by RE in last few decades, but pls dont compare it to the likes of ninjas or Ktms. They are all for different target groups. 650 twin may not have a best of acceleration, or torque, or handling, but its a product at a price point, we have been asking for a long long time. That is the reason they are selling like hot cake. They are jack of most trades. A first 650 paratell twin, for 2.5L ex showroom price, now who would have thought of it. 47 bhp is decent enough power for most usage and most of torque coming around 2-4k rpm is a bliss. Other high revving engines need to be revved hard to be enjoyed. nothing wrong with that, just a different TG. the gear box is smooth and slick, first for an RE. They have dual channel ABS, slipper clutch, a brake that actually works. It does have its share of flaws with ergonomics, odd looking oversized exhaust, uncomfortable seat, etc. but overall its quite a decent package for the price. All these points on the bike and how it is and how it behaves have been covered is so many media and auto journal reviews, and a decent test ride gives good idea on how the bike sounds, feels, handles and stops.
What i am trying to say is that your expectation is miss-aligned with what the bike is, but the bike is been true to whats its projected itself as. If you mean yamaha RD 350 when u mention Rajdoot 350, or bikes like CBR or duke 390, they are all so different from each other and built on different ideologies. the interceptor actually does remind me of the RD350 in some ways. Give it some time, and see if you views change. its a relatively low revving, simple, torquey bike and with some upgrades like tyres, suspension, seat, ergonomics, etc will be a good bike to have. I feel the 650 twins are good as 2nd bike in the garage, for those occasional leisure rides around the city or on good open roads, which takes a rider back to the era where morotcycles and motorcyling were basic and pure.

S&S has clearly written on site that these kits are "Track only" and are not road legal.

Which means it voids warranty and may also impact insurance should you meet with an accident.

So for just around ₹50,000 and extra labour charges from the 865cc big bore kits you will will be getting more performance than the 2019 Street Twin and almost the same power of Ducati Monster 797, both costing around ₹8.5-9.7lakhs on road.

If these are official and authorised kits from Royal Enfield and if it keeps the warranty intact, then it's an AMAZING deal for riders who want that extra oomph from Interceptor.

      Cheers!

Got my Ravishing Red Brego delivered today from Mazil Motors in Gurgaon. Delivery process was smooth, and the bike was delivered in perfect condition. It was a joy to ride back home, even in Gurgaon’s traffic and pollution. Gearshifts were butter smooth, engine was eager and hard to restrain to 50kmph.

On accessories front, chose just the sump guard and crash guard from RE for now. Fork Gaiters will be installed during first service. Immediate priority on the accessories list is
        1. Mobile phone holder with / without charger
        2. Aux lights - flood type, mainly to illuminate potholes and invisible speed breakers.
        3. Rear footrest to save pillion’s shoes from hot exhaust
        4. Handlebar Riser for some comfort

Would welcome any suggestions on these, especially the No. 3 in NCR.

Later, maybe in 3-4 months, I am planning to add -
        1. Better Seats
        2. Rear backrest
        3. Smaller exhaust
        4. Modified front foot pegs assembly
        5. Carrier Rack
        6. Windshield - bigger than the official RE, but found Himalayan windshield tad bit ugly.

Any leads will be helpful. I came across some stuff from zana but not particularly impressed.

Separately, I have been following TEC bike parts (https://shop.tecbikeparts.com/t/royal-enfield) for some time including the tasteful mods they have on their youtube channel. Has anyone tried importing anything from them ?

            Hi Sir

Seen a lot of your posts on team bhp. Nice to see you here too.

Well the OP for that post never came back..don't know if he was trolling or if he actually meant it (would be sad if that's was case..finding out you don't like the bike after getting it). I am planning to get the bike on rent for a day to see if it suits me before I think about booking it.

Done 5K on the Interceptor. Had spend the last weekend at Chikmagalur. On the way back i noticed some wobbling from the handle bar after a speed of 75km/h. Had checked for the Tyre pressure and it was good. The issue arises when i leave both my hands from handle bar. Can it be due to the spokes? Had done some minor offroading done. Maybe this??

                  Any suggestions.
I have got it done from Kailash Colony 3MM Car Care point. It is a real nice product to have on your tank. Price is on a higher side but the quality is unmatched. However the applicator matters a lot. The applicator who did my tank was a good one and there seems no crease line after the work was done. However as the tank is round and you have to cut the space for the logos on either side, here is where the issue pops up. The bends make the film have bubles on edges. It is a real real real bummer. Second issue is that as the tank is round, so there is lot of wastage in the film as it has to be cut into three broad pieces (1st on top, 2nd left panel and 3rd- right panel.). Now that leaves cut faults on the film when it is applied. So it looks ugly.

Despite of all that I think I am getting the protection, so will keep it.

But not at all satisfied with the work on the edges. See a random pic below. You cant see the edges bubles, but fault lines are visible (Just above the logo), and they are on both sides-

I got it done fro Zana itself from Karol. It was a simple 30 mins procedure. And its worth it. Better than a leg guard to protect the bike, especially th engine. I am pretty sure it will save your legs as well. Thankfully, haven't tested that yet (God forbid).

I also got the bash plate. A bare necessity.

Get the wheel alignment and balancing done, report it to re they will tighten the spokes and it should be fine. Mine was done free of cost at re workshop i reported the wobble issue. My front end use to felt nervous above 100kmph on curves. Now it is good

New here. Booked RE Orange Crush today and expecting delivery in a month's time. Have been using Activa and NTorq, and INT650 will be my first bike. Excited and waiting.

Any advice for for first timers?

Any immediately changes needed? Considering I will be using it for office and at time with my wife and daughter. Does RE have higher grab rails at the real for pillions?

As it's your first bike and that too a 650cc one go slow in the beginning, there's a lot of power in the bike and things can go south very easily so only test the power of the bike on open roads, never in city conditions. It weighs around 200kgs so while taking U turns be extra careful. During running in keep the bike below 60kmph for the initial 1000kms.
"with great power comes great responsibility"
                          Peace

All good but 60kmph point is not right, go as per rpm, keep it below 4 to max 4.5k.
If the rider starts riding it at 60 kmph in sixth means engine would get lugged seriously and lugging is way too worst then over revving. Always take rpm as the parameter in case of running in. 50 to 60 percent throttle or rpm out of total available is safe in first 1500 kms.
The twins hits the power band at 2.5k rom below that any higher gear means lugging the engine. Make shift point at 2.5 to 3k rpm.

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
                              The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.
