    How is interceptor performance below 2000RPM.

    I have been feeling very snatchy performance of the bike just below from 1.6k-1.7K to 2K RPM since day one. This becomes more prominent when riding through heavy traffic for more than 10-15 mins. It usually starts with a stutter kind off feeling and but today the motorcycle shut down. And all this in first gear.

    During the first servicing around 2 weeks back, I had complained about the issue to the service centre. For few days everything felt alright but this issue has cropped up again.
    Anyone else facing this issue or any possible reasons. I will visit the service centre during the weekends so see what solution they have to offer.

      1.6 to 2k rpm, You are talking about First gear only, if you are using any higher then doing it wrong. It will give jhatka or snatchy ness slightly below 2k in second gear.
      While using first gear in this range of rpm there is only smooth response.
      Keep your chain slack in chk and play in clutch it should be fine.
      I don't use any gear other than first till 2k.
      Also make sure there is play in the throttle.
      For recommended levels refer the manual.
      If there is anything which I am missing here then please explain or elaborate more.

        Well the bike is smooth under 2k during normal riding situations, however, in heavy traffic conditions where one has to ride in either 1st or 2nd gear for 15-20 mins at a stretch, it just feels like the bike is losing some of its power and the 'jhatka' can be felt. I will check on the chain slack as you suggest.

        I did some more search on the internet and found out the issue has been reported by few in XBHP as well. In fact, the Abhinav Bhatt's NDTV article '13 Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Problems That Only An Owner Can Tell You' also mentions this issue.

          So did they adjust the valve clearance , as per Abhinav it was the valve clearance issue. But again i am saying I use inly first gear in this range of rpm and in b2b traffic and never felt the snatchy behavior. My valve clearance is still stock as they have done it even once. Push them for checking the valve clearance. And for the chain slack measure it with wheel on the ground means swingarm should be bearing the weight of the Motorcycle.

            Guys,

            I am planning to get an interceptor by this month end. my question is to wait or not wait for BS6 version?

            I read somewhere here on the community that BS6 version might come with reduced horsepower and performance. also, i have seen the test mule on the internet for GT 650 2020 variant and god those exhausts are pathetic!!

            so please please advice, is it right to go get a BS4 variant?

              We don't know about the Interceptor yet, but going by the market trend - we can expect a marginal drop in power, and a hike in price by about 10-15k.

              Do you want to pay more for a slightly less powerful version in a bid to save the environment is the question you need to answer!

                less power for more money and saving environment! Trick Situation!!

                all these years I have ridden my FZ so well (Economy mode) most of the times, i dont mind spoiling myself and environment a bit with Interceptor!

                but again, any upgrades they are going to throw, alloys i am still not sure will make to this current models and moreover they look ugly what RE is planning to release (picture from the web) so spokes it is for now!

                i Really want to get one, so please suggest

                  These two lines from your post really tells you what you want.

                  You are ok with the BS-4 variant, and you like the spokes more (even if we assume that RE would give alloys for BS-6 variant - which I think they won't)

                  No one needs to suggest, go ahead and get the BS-4 Interceptor already !

                    The power drop wont be obvious at all unless you have ridden the BS4 model and then moved to this. Even then, it won't matter that much as this is not an off the line racer.
                    it has ample power to boot

                        I am looking at S&S Tapered Cone Mufflers for my Interceptor 650. The product claims to offer "improved horsepower and torque". Can anyone offer any insights into the performance and sound effects of these mufflers? I am getting it for around 50k in Delhi, so suggestions on a better product in the price range or a similar product at a lower price point will also help.

                          This is the price in India only one dealer HNP bringing it in and custom duty is high. Not worth spending so much for the performance gain which would be marginal. And exhaust alone can not give the boost needs properly tuned map and performance filter too.
                          And over that where will you use that extra 2 or 5 horses ( brake toh battery riskha ke peche lagni hai[emoji1787]).

                              Don't expect major gains from an exhausts, the S&S are hella expensive considering the cost of the motorcycle. Look at AEW exhausts which offer exhaust which look similar to the S&S and sound better than the desi brands imo.

                                Yes, I'm also finally narrowing it down to AEW exhausts for my upgrade option. Everyone from international riders to Indians seem to like the sound and look of the AEW ones over all the other exhausts. In some London showrooms the Enfield dealers themselves fit AEW exhausts during delivery of the 650 Twins.

                                Though I really I liked the sound of new Dustland exhausts launched last week, the price seems to be expensive around Rs.30000.

                                Usually with aftermarket exhausts there will be a low end torque loss. Though with db-killers the AEW exhausts back end pressure is mostly retained so the low end torque loss is lesser than other desi brands it seems.
