Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
My advice, Save some more and Get the RTR 200 with pirelli tyres. Its built quality is excellent all round and engine is made to take abuse.Originally posted by OCTO View Post

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Friends I have been using Shell Advance AX7 oil for my bike. It is due for my next service. Since there is no Shell stores near my place, I decided to buy one from Amazon.
I found out 2 products of AX7 with SKU Codes 550031394 and 550046861?
550046861 is of 900ml quantity and 550031394 is of 1 ltr quantity.
What is the difference between these 2 products?
Sorry for the out of zone question.
Their price varies too..

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Looks like it would be better to wait till next year where Govt is going to mandate ABS on all/most bikes. Then I would have broad choice of motorcycles. I'm not in a hurry so can afford to wait.Originally posted by vivekgautams View PostRTR is a vibrator! No matter what one does, the vibrations are always the focus of the ride. I bought the RTR ABS as it was the only bike with ABS way back in 2011. Now, I'm vexed with the vibration and the care/maintenance the bike demands.
I'v been riding a friends' CBR150R which has done the same km as my bike and a bit newer than mine. I can tell you that the CBR has aged better than my bike., even after extreme servicing/maintenance/engine replacement.
The RTR handles well, accelerates is a very exciting way, has a good F.E and built to take abuse. In short, the RTR 180 was built as a competitor to the old generation Pulsars. Pulsars have moved on, TVS is still stuck in yesteryear. Even the RTR200 is based on the FZ v1.0 as a competitor to the FZ.
The vibration is just one issue. Many owners have suffered with engine oil leaks from the engine head. The RTR needs constant tappet adjustment. Throttle hiccups start once the bike ages a bit.
My advice, don't buy a bike just for ABS. Purchase a bike which will be reliable, refined and meets your riding requirements. As you gain experience, you wont find the need of ABS.
A friend of mine claims he test drove a RTR 200 with FI and ABS from a Dealer in Chennai.
Don't wait for TVS ! They will launch new "scooty" rather than "all new" motorcycles.
Cheers!
Over the course of riding years I have improved on working with breaks however it would be an added advantage of having a boon like ABS to save my a** in case I screw up.
Thank you for the detailed response. [emoji2] [emoji106]

It might be an repeated question, being a long thread couldn't go through so i'll just ask.
People say about vibration issue in the bike, is it that bad and intolerable? Is there any fix to it?
Its the only ABS equipped bike which falls in my budget and above issue is the only thing stopping me to get one, please advise.
Thanks in advance.

vinayus sstherockz Thank you very much for the response. The info really helps. Will wait for the new model that you mentioned about.
I'm emphasising more on ABS as most of my accidents have been due to the wheels getting locked in rainy days.

I would say it's not that bad vibration (if you are maintaining your bike well).
Get a test ride and ride for more distance and still if you are going to RTR
then I have suggestions
1. Don't use the TVS oil (if they are forcing you then use their Fully synthetic oil which costs around 550 per litre).
2. Make sure bed bolts are tightened for every 1000kms. If these rats are not tight then there will be more vibrations which I can guarantee you.
3. Make sure your chain sprocket is in good condition and Swing arm nuts are tight enough else foot pegs will start ringing telephones.
It's a glory to handle an RTR always. Never bores and never dies out.
If you got some more time then wait for New RTR 160/180 which is being spied on roads.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Well I have RTR160 which I bought Oct16. And so far I have done 14k kms.Originally posted by OCTO View PostHi Apache owners,

Since 160 and 180 are like siblings, I can give my thoughts.
Yes RTR160/180 vibrates. Its not that bad as people say but it does from 4.5k rpm to 5.5k rpm(that is like 55-65kmph speed maybe). I feel vibrations on my brake pedal. Sometimes it irritates but I have started ignoring it now.
I haven't tried any fix because I love keeping bike in stock. I have informed SVC in all my services but it just doesn't go.
Keep an eye on upcoming RTR new versions(if my predictions are right then it should be available in Dec). They might actually be vib-free(hoping so). Also you have RTR200 which you can retro-fit ABS later on.
Take a long test ride(atleast 2km) and try to ride between 4.5k rpm and 5.5k rpm, that will get you real idea.
PS: No matter what others say, RTR grows on your instincts so you actually never get bored easily which you cannot see in other models.

If you feel the engine is too lagging and not feeling the power like before then please go ahead with removal and also check on Clutch plates.
AFAIK 16000 - 20000 kms is perfectly normal for Apache (as I owned it for 50K kms). You can use 90 grade oil nothing wrong with it. Use kerosene for cleaning which is damn cheap cleaner than the specific chain cleaner which are way expensive than what you use.
Solo riding is ok. I have enough power. But when riding with pillion i miss a lot of power. However will check the same. Thank you so much

Yes. The SC guys told me to remove carbon deposit after 30,000 Kms. Is that really necessary???
Also guys my chain is not lasting so long. Have to replace the chain and socket on every 16,000-20,000 kms. I do clean and lube the chain but i don't know how it happened?? Am cleaning the chain with diesel sometimes uses kerosene also. Am not using any chain lubes instead am using 90 grade oil. Any idea guys???

Did you mean carbon deposit removal?
If there was more carbon deposit then spark plug will go kaput often. Also bike's mileage will be a disaster in that case.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
I dont think engine oil is an issue here. Oil leak from head is quite common in the rtr. Try and use two gaskets if that helps. Maybe oil leak from head is the resultant of low oil levels during drain. Try shell ax7 for a change. I believe any 10w40 grade oil is better suited for the RTR's. And drain range of 1600 - 1800 kms is fine for mineral based oil.Originally posted by pranav_salieri View PostMy oil change lasts hardly for 1600-1700 kms..when ever I get a oil level check done the mechanic tells me there is no oil! Is my bike consuming the oil.i got the oil drained I could see max around 500-600 ml.wjats wrong here bikes done 30500 kms
Just get the head leaking sorted.

Thanks for the info.. I have been using the TVS TRU4 since purchase. The bike vibrates even after 66 kmph. i thought that was due to the lack of refinement. Will try something new on the next service. which is the best in your opinion??
Mechanics with good experience can understand the issue better than showroom guys. There is some dirt removing procedure after 30,000 kms na?? Did you done that??

There isnt any Oil Leak, i checked .TVS TRU4 oil is the Worst oil i have ever used.Bike becomes very rough and vibrations are very pronounced. there is a little oil leak on the Engine head. Those TVS SVC folks claimed that they had sealed the head using a gasket but this it seems is not true.Even the head has a very small leak,i am sure its not the reason why the oil level is so low.i am suspecting some internal issue,i revved my bike to higher RPMS in neutral to check if there is any white smoke emanating from the exhaust(that indication means that bore or the piston rings are fried and engine is drinking up the oil) but fortunately no white smoke emanated,so there must be some issue, i will be going to a Reputed mech instead of the Crap TVS SVC.
