well yesterday I asked the mechanics regarding the oil filter to which they replied with a big no after confirming with their supervisor.however I still have doubt regarding this as replacement of paper oil filter is mandatory according to the owner`s manual also cleaning of oil stainer and centrifugal filter has been asked to be done during first servicing.
can the bajaj genuine dtsi oil lasts for 5000km according to the service schedule.also the service intervals are longer than the other bikes .My second service is scheduled at 4500-5000km or 240 days whichever is earlier.

Hmm, well i'll also confirm it with pbk guys tomorow about the oil filter, as i don't know whether it's there or not. Will ask my dad also, since he knows more about the services done to the bike. And about the engine oil, yes the manual does say that it lasts 5k kilometres but you had better change it at 4k itself. But if you switch to motul semi-synthetic, you can be sure of it's longevity. I've been using it from the past 2 years and it has worked wonders and i've changed it at 4800 kilometres everytime. So you can trust motul if you go for it EDIT- service intervals are long, yes.. I don't know why. But it's only for platina. Even though Discover 100 is also in the same category, it's service intervals aren't this long.. One of it's kind, i can say.. All hail platina :-D

thanx for confirming it buddy. The service intervals are equal to our alto vxi 1.1 it means the platina would be very very low maintainance bike contrary to my rx 100.I asked the service guys about using any other brand oil to which they said that it would void the warranty.so I would have to stick to dtsi oil.I would only get my bike serviced their only for 3 services after which I would take it to my previous mechanic who services my rx 100 and tvs flame(my brother`s).
The thing I hate the most is that they race the bike in cold condition which is seriously harmful for the new engine and affects in long run.It always starts in the first kick which I adore the most.
I have one more query-does platina 100 have tps(throttle position sensor) or is it only found in platina 125 dts-si. I would post the photos soon.

haha :-D but i always hated cars, i never like travelling in them.. Anyway, yes according to service centre guys, warranty is void if we use any other oil. That's why i recommended using motul after all the free services are over.. and yes, svc mechanics seriously do need to care for their customers' bikes a bit more %-) for the sake of testing after the "service" is done, they ride the bike as if all hell has broken lose and try to set the roads on fire :-> :-> best to get the bike serviced right in our supervision.. And no, platina 100 does not have tps for sure.. But i'm not sure about platina 125, though my guess is that it doesn't have. I've only seen tps in suzuki gs 150r and karizma w.r.t commuter segment bikes. Gs 150 has some technology where-in the fuel is "sprayed" or something depending upon throttle input :-| sorry, i'm not much of a technical guy to correctly explain it in words. But i did see about the same thing mentioned in gs 150 thread.. Platina doesn't have or need such technology so i'm guessing tps isn't there. Btw, where do you stay ? finally, sorry for the looooong post guys :-D

well I stay in lucknow. It seems no one possess platina in the xbhp.Wonder where the thread starter is found these days.I recently read one of his reviews where he wrote that he has clocked 64xxx km .Its time he should revive the thread himself and provide us with detailed ownership review. It would be very helpful for me as a new platina rider and other newbies.
Let the others know about the reliability, rideability, mileage and low maintenance that platina offers in the 100-110 cc segment.Till now I am totally satisfied from the bike.My bike is still in running-in period so the average mileage is comparatively lower and havene not checked its top speed or low end torque for which it is renowned. In glimpses I was able to check the low end torque where it was able to pull from 15kmph in 4th gear which is alike mine rx 100.
the only thing i miss in platina is that it does not offers kick-start in any gear which is a standard feature in all yamaha bikes.

yo buddy.. Oil filter is definitely present in ALL bikes.. i don't know why i was so stupid to not realise it earlier though i knew it oil filter is a must in every bike, it filters all the unwanted tiny metal pieces which the new engine spats out while the pistons do their work.. So, yes you have to change it at the recommended interval it's a pity that the Honda Twister is the only active thread in 100 cc segment in xbhp.. Atleast let us try to keep this thread going Honestly, i love Honda machines, but the truth here is that i've always felt that Bajaj machines are d best for Indian roads !! If maintained correctly all engines and bikes have long lives.. My dad's platina is still a maintenance free, energitic war-horse since we service it at regular intervals. Done many trips to b'lore and madikeri and other places. Though not comfortable as other bikes, it can still take the beating on the highway. Never has it given up anywhere, starts at a single kick, gear shifts are smooth enough, handles nicely. I had once dreamt of and also had talked to dad about buying a cbr 150r for me since i trust and love honda machines, but after thinking practically, i came to a decision to buy it myself with my own money. Honestly it's the best thing that a student has to do,. Not wasting our parent's hard earned money.. i'm more than happy with either Discover or Twister for now.. Gonna book either of them in 2 months, after i join a college.. Still, i love platina like anything since it has been my trustworthy companion on all my city and highway adventures and dude, do a proper run-in, keep your emotions under control, then you'l get the best out of your ride for a lifetime cheers
PS - i'm addicted to typing down everything that's in my mind, hence forgive me for the long post and if i've bored you guys but this thread's too empty , so i guess i'm doing justice

Well thats not exactly true, I never had to change the oil filter on my 2003 Caliber 115. My Pulsar 220 also doesn't have any oil filter, there is a wire-mesh oil strainer though, which is cleaned every 20k km, but there is no change interval as such.
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

ah, my bad, i'm a newbie, not much technically sound in such matters. But yes what you said was what i meant, i just didn't know how to say it correctly and ACCELERATOR mentioned about the change intervals given in the manual so i voiced the same too..but thanks for clarifying and i've a query, can platina's handlebars be changed to that of Discover's without any complications ??

actually the replacement of "paper oil filter" according to the manual is mandatory in all the services whereas the svc guys said that platina 100 does not have oil filter. So one of them is wrong, however that is not a big issue,I would confirm it from my trusted mechanic who services all kind of bikes.

that is the reason for change of my ride from rx 100 to platina.have to compromise lot for the sake of fuel efficiency.

I would recommend the honda twister because with all the great styling, fe,power and smooth reliable honda engine it is the best 110 cc bike.

buddy I think handlebars of platina and discover are same.

Is it ? I still felt that they were more comfortable than platina's.. I felt like i was leaning more in Discover than on Platina. Strangely, i find sporty stance the most comfortable. I know discover isn't havin such a stance but it was just a feeling. So i asked.. And yes, Twister is a good choice but i'm concerned about the Honda service, which is considered shoddy everywhere. I wonder how much more bad it could be than bajaj services..

I think the difference you feel is due to the placement of rider footrests slightly backwards in the discover. You may feel comfortable because you were riding platina which has forward stance.yes, you will have to check the honda service in your area, however in my area it is pathetic.

My platina 125 is nearly 1.6 year old, and she clocked 29k + kms on her odo.
Dont have any plan to leave her as I 'm in college and she is my only touring companion ..
Traveled lots of places on her, maintanance is on higher side as I don't want to stand still on highway..
                          DOne 900+kms in a day .
                          Done lots of offroading ..
Next week planning to change some parts
                          1. chain kit
                          2.front sprocket
                          3.airfilter
                          4.timing chain
                          5. gasket & piston ring (very small leakage from the bottom of engine block)
6.clutch plate + pressure plate (clutch plate started slipping)
7.Front tyre (its nearl blad )..

I never used it as a 125 cc or she never let me under stand .. Most of the travelogues are posted in "tourer" , some other T.logs are waiting ..
Still now she touches 105 kmph with pillion 5kmph less than before, I think that because of clutch ..

The odometer was reset to 00000 after the engine work(at 93k), and now it has clocked 40k. The engine is sweet sounding, good LET, decent mileage(70 kmpl+).
