        Biography

From India and may have been the first rider from that Country to take up the challenge of the Mountain Course.
        Haxor!!
Aspi is the second Indian to participate the in this TT races, and eventually he won the Bronze replica in his class at the first attempt itself ( think at 1995..not sure about the year though!!)
A gentleman by name Mr.Shankar Varthek ( sorry for the poor memory lane..could recollect his full name) participated Isle of Man TT races at 1934, in his Rudge motorcycle, sadly he was disqualified in the 3 rd lap, for being hindrance to the other riders, due to lack of Track knowledge !!
So Mr.Pathek is the First Indian to participate at TT races & then Mr.Aspi Bhatena comes next after 60 long years to be precise.
        Cheers,
        Muthu Kumar.K
ps: My request to fellow members( youngsters), who are keen followers of this great event(TTraces) to dig out some Big books about TT races and post some interesting facts & figures , instead of googling....yes I mean it!!
pps: Nowadays ,Me, finding it difficult to go through books, with spectacles & stuff !!, as 'am nearly half the age of Isle of man TT itself..
PPS: Thanks for dr.cr(xbhpian), for revealing the full name of the First Indian rider @ TT races

I've been following IOM from almost 2004, its a very difficult and one of the most interesting races ever.
I have been following Northwest 200 and Cookstown 100 too, from almost 3 years...
Even these are public roads and equally challenging.
NW 200 and Cookstown 100 are races, but I.O.M is pure time trial, hence its much more necessary to push hard at all the times.

I don't know too much about it theoretically, but I've seen a lot of bikes give up before finishing the race.
Almost 1 1/2 hour of stress on 200kmph + average speed, the engine blows or the chain breaks a lot on lap 2 or 4.
          There are totally 6 laps.

1 interesting thing is that these guys still follow the classic fueling method, they have a small drum of fuel almost 10~12 feet above the ground, and a pipe connected to it, hence they put that pipe in the tank and re-fill the fuel through the force of normal gravity.

From last year onwards these guys have started pitting normally as every other race on the planet enter the pits at a particular speed slowing down gradually, previously they used to stop before the pit line, touch their feet on the ground (complete standstill) and then enter the pits.

at an average, 2 people die at isle of man in a year, i.e a race week.

According to a classic documentary, an X racer said, previously it was much difficult to race as the surface was higher from the center and stooping towards the shoulders hence it will throw you off if you run wide, and it was mostly gravel, today the roads are at their very best, but again the speed of latest gen bikes makes it much much more difficult...

one needs guts to participate IOM, margin of error is almost none, at times animals have been hit at speeds above 250 and it has proved fatal for the rider too.
Not to mention the footpath which can hit your knee while turning (happened many times) and the electric poles or telephone booths acting as runoff !!!

Many manufacturers like kawasaki, honda and others are known today just because they had either won or been competitive at the very first time participating at IOM.
They had to run out of cash to participate and the gamble has been proved fruitful.

Its a shame that many many motorcyclists still don't know much about isle of man, the most popular 2 wheeler sport.

I am one of the few lucky guys to have a souvenir (small chequered flag with a bike in the middle and the logo) of I.O.M when my elder brother visited the place to watch the race, its still kept like one of the most precious things I've ever got.

Expecting a lot from a fiero.

n 2009 India made history with the technology of the future.
A bunch of college students who bailed out on their final year BE exams, traveled to Isle Of Man with one passion, one dream. The dream that perhaps we share. Race thier bike at the Isle of Man An 80Bhp machine that weighed just 170KGs!
However thier journey just got tougher and tougher. The authorities handed a list of 16 things to be changed on the bike!
The original rider backed out after seeing this list.
In came John Crellin who said " I will race anything with two wheels" and went on to win the title and professed to buy the bike!

There is quite a bit of insanity in racing the TT. And hats off to the brave riders that ride the streets on the IOM. Aspi Bathena ran in the TT is news for me and hats off to all that were before and all those who will follow after him. Had seen a documentary on DVD maybe a year back. Closer to the edge, I am sure I still have it somewhere ........... here is the trailer and sorry if it has been posted earlier TT3D : Closer To The Edge - Official Trailer [HD] - YouTube
I remember Rossi doing a lap with Mr. Giacomo Agostini and was asked if he would race the TT. I think he refused saying it was too dangerous. I maybe wrong but I think I saw that somewhere.
Hope to be able to see the TT in my lifetime.

IOM to have a Chinese manufactured bike for the first time in the history of these races. Will their ever be a time that an Indian Manufacturer will compete in a prestigious race as IOM.

                                Nice watch.
I feel that most of the enthusiasts from everywhere who know about this race nurture a dream to one day go there and just ride their bike as fast as they can around the track. Not to win a race or post a quick time, but just to experience the joy and the sheer exhilaration of riding this insane circuit. And to be able to come back and say "I rode on it, and i survived.....and i cant wait to do it again".
I still remember the first time i saw videos of the IOMTT and the racers just zipping across it. My jaw dropped, i couldn't even believe that it was even possible to ride like that in those kind of roads. It just seemed unreal, and then looking at the onboard videos of these racers going round it just becomes so clear of how difficult it is. The massive number of corners to remember, the speed, the bikes getting airborne over bumps, the incredibly tiny margin of error. THE greatest show on earth that is.
