  • The fastest race-spec R15 - Ten10 Racing breaks new lap record!

Its been a few months since I have been deeply involved in the development of our Group B upto 165cc Yamaha R15. After intensive testing and development on and off the track, we have hit the competition real hard. Setting a new lap record in the 4-stroke upto 165cc group B(fully modified) class in the Sidvin FMSCI National Motorcycle Racing championship 2010, round 1.

Ten10 Racing started as a national motorcycle racing team in 2009 and we have had great success in the last one year bagging titles in various classes of racing.
Most of my developments have been revolving around the R15 and it was important we stay ahead of the big guns, namely TVS racing and Yamaha racing inorder to position our championship. After having spent enough time with the R15 engine for almost 2 years now, I exactly knew what I had to offer. Our rider Sarath Kumar, an excellent talent from chennai was just the perfect bet to take the game forward. We broke a new lap record of 2:01.7 which was previously held by the 2-stroke Group C bikes and also by the FIM underbones during the Asia GP round in india.
The weather spoilt the party, else we could have gone a little more faster. I had to detune the engine in order to support the new weather condition and to avoid power slides. We happened to record the best acceleration and the highest top-speed around the track.

    Bike - Ten10 Racing - Yamaha R15
    Rider - Sarath Kumar
    comp no - 69
    Displacement - 164cc
Engine - Liquid cooled, 4-stroke, single cylinder, SOHC unit
    Power - Above 25bhp
    Clutch Type - Wet (Direct)
Chassis - Delta Frame, with revised subframe
    Front Suspension - telescopic - 33mm
Rear Suspension - Modified link type Mono unit
Front Brake - 300mm floating type disc
Rear Brake - Internal cam operated drum type
    Dry weight - 98 kilos
    Top speed - Around 145kph

    Some pics attached.

    Cheers,

    Joel

It was great to see Joel getting the 'Tuner' (constructor) award in the 165cc category.

Congratulation Joel and your team to achieved a milestone.

Why R15 have fixed oil cooled options where it has already liquid cooled?

Awesome stuff, the R15 looks lean and mean 98 kilos and 25hp.. maddening

Just an observation, the rear brake seems to be drum type

Joe the tuner and Sarath the rider - I dont have words to comment your talent and brilliance, great achievement. It is really challenging to achieve these figures when we have Yam and TVS, now no more fear its all one man -

Did one of them have a steering damper?

And you missed out the acceleration figures!
                      You get the point?? :D

@ Everybody has a steering damper, coz at those speeds tank slaps are normal. And the performance figs are not quoted deliberately.
