  • New Hero Honda Super Splendor Launched.

NEW DELHI: The country's largest two-wheeler maker Hero Honda on Thursday launched a new variant of its one of the best-sellers -- Super Splendor, priced at Rs 45,950 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

"The 125cc segment has been stagnant or even declining in the past one year, but we believe that we can grow the market. Our own expectation is to grow our own sales by about 15-20 per cent in the 125cc segment," Hero Honda Motors Senior Vice-President (Marketing and Sales) Anil Dua told PTI.

He, however, did not share the specific number of units when asked how much incremental sales the company expects with the introduction of the new bike.

The 125 cc segment accounts for about 20 per cent of the total motorcycle market, which is pegged at about 75 lakh units per annum.

After the introduction of the new variant, Hero Honda will phase out the old Super Splendor, he added.

"With consecutive months of four lakh-plus sales since the month of May, our sales are moving at all-time high levels. We are looking to build on this momentum with a slew of new launches leading up to the festive season," Dua said.

The National Capital-based company reported a jump of 2.28 per cent in its sales at 4,24,617 units in August 2010. It had sold 4,15,137 units in the same month last year.

"We will have three models in the 125cc segment, which includes Super Splendor, Glamour and Glamour PGM-FI," he said.

Hero Honda had launched the Splendor brand in 1994 in the 100cc segment and the company claims it to be the world's highest selling bike.

The company introduced Super Splendor in 2005 in the 125cc segment with "Quantum Core" engine and enhanced features to give better fuel economy.

After the Hunk, it seems its the turn of the Super Splendor to get "refreshed".

Am sure that the CBZ Xtreme and the Karizma R would get refreshed too soon.

what is the new thing in All New Hero Honda Super Splendour?? Headlight?? Stickers?? Wow...

And what about the QUANTUM CORE ENGINE.. Which was highly publicized during the launch??

I am sure Hero Honda will be marketing the engine this time as QUANTUM CORE 2 DUO, HYPERTHREADING ENGINE.. As if its not an engine.. but a Microprocessor.. Lol.

+ 1 for that, as i dont feel the old splendor engine had less issues than the quantum core engine.

The first gen Super Splendor was my first bike, and I can vouch for it that it was one hell of machine in it's class and it did the job perfectly for which it was designed.... a sober, commuter, executive class bike in every aspect and highly reliable. I've heard that the bike had engine issues, but I didn't had any. Issues only started showing when elder bro crashed it a couple of times, followed my service issues.

The new Super Splendor does improve upon the previous one in terms of console and tank cap, but I'm pretty sure that the engine had remained the same.

My personal opinion - the first gen head light visor was better

By doing "this", is there any chance they can compete with other 125cc bikes out there???

It dint had Engine issues but it had coil issues which was solved in later batches. My friend has it and I have used it as much as he did.

Its a decent city bike with good mileage and good enough power for two people to effortlesslypull through the traffic and not to forget very very comfortable.

I think this is the only HH bike which has got its "upgrade" due since long time.

                    I see Clear lens indicator,
                    New fuel tank cap,
                    New layout of console,
Alloys are standard now I guess,
All black engine and front shox,
Old visor looked good than this,
And as expected no engine tweaks.

Now the above line in BOLD is interesting.. Hope HH does that very sooooon..

I expect atleast they put tubeless tyres in Karizma-R and clip on handle bars too.. And if possible remove the kick start option.. Thats all...

HH did its best here in taking fight to Discover...ahem!! I think for such a bike such up gradation would prove enough to lure customers who have Disccover100 in their mind

Going through the thread, i came across a few posts mentioning about the lack of "engine tweaks" to the splendor's engine.

However, said that, there are not many bikes in the market today that have had any tweaks....

Pulsar 150 has had only 3 engine upgrades in its life....
Apache/Apache RTR has had only 1 (excluding its Fiero avtar).....
Unicorn too has had only 1....
(purposely, i have listed only a few players specifically from performance oriented category who have been in the market for a long time)

i believe, its only 'us' (the guys here at xbhp) who keep on wishing for more power from every upgrade that a manufacturer comes up with....
as for the masses, i dont see them having any problem with the engine or its performance. they are happy as long as they get the reliability that HH is known for, the features that are available (like black theme, alloy wheels, contemporary looks and so on..) in the market along with the most important factor..... FUEL EFFICIENCY. I think HH does address these points and that is how they keep on selling in such huge numbers.....
