IMO the saddle bags are optional accessories and the test rider was using them to carry his belongings as he was travelling long distances. And really the bags dont gel well with the Caferacer
Cafe Racers are lifestyle/weekend bikes which are basically designed to be head-turners and yet manage the occasional high-speed run. They are not designed to be tourers and that's one reason why they come with smaller tanks. It's a different fact that the bike in question was probably undergoing a reliability testing hence, the long distance run.

    Cafe racer engines have always been more eager and differently tuned compared to cruisers/thumpers. Not sure how a relaxed engine will suit the overall theme;

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

From the below excerpt from the link (Photo 5)

"The Continental GT, a cafe racer, is powered by a 535cc, air-cooled single, which is a bored out version of the Classic 500's 499cc Unit Construction Engine - with a re-mapped ECU and a lighter flywheel which makes it rev quicker. This will be the most powerful and the fastest Royal Enfield motorcycle to hit the streets once it goes into production later this year."

Looks like this is geared differently (Short geared at the bottom and a really tall top gear I guess). Wonder what will be the waiting period for this one as many might shift their existing booking to this one. This is definitely a stunner and one of its kind in the Indian Market.
Imperfect human knowledge may be a bumpy, pot-holed street but its the only road to wisdom worth taking . . .

Sounds exciting...I myself would tilt towards one as a weekend ride. Quick-revving, short-geared engine and a tall top gear for extended riding capability in one bike can make it a helluva fun machine!

I've heard its going be in the duke 390 price bracket.

That's quite a bit of moolah to put down. I will keep my opinions reserved till it makes it to the open market and is seen carving up the streets.

OT I am building a zma cafe currently and am at the initial stages of the build. You can follow the same on its thread in the general discussion section.

Pillion seat will be a waste on this machine. Maybe a detachable seat like the ones seen on CL350/CL500 would be better...but wait....that humpback seat (which Mr.Siddharth is using) is the true characteristic of a Cafe Racer!!!

And no offence meant, but those saddlebags definitely spoil the looks of the classic!

Cafe Racers are the Super Sports equivalent of the 1940's-50's.

I too agree the Saddle bags on a Cafe Racer being out of place.. but then the image of models like the Yamaha R15 with Cramster Saddlebags enroute Leh - Laddakh is an even worse eyesore.. albeit not an uncommon sight at all.

Wow, that looks uncannily similar, save for the Zappers and the decals! If I remember correctly, the biking team at BSM (Business Standard Motoring) were custom-building a similar concept which they had named "ThunderClap". This was way back in 2003 or 2004. Later, Vardenchi also came up with a similar concept.

Just got to know the possible reason behind the name Continental GT. The Continental GT (250 cc) was a popular model of RE launched in mid-60's. The current model borrows lot of design cues from the erstwhile model.

Here is some more info on the same.

should i say bentley stole the name from RE port 60's or RE is now trying to steal is back from bentley.. trying to go back to good old days
whatever it is.. RE making a move feels good..

i would wanna see a day i go to RE showroom and pick a v-twin nutin less than 1200cc and make harley go shy...

but ... there is a lot to be desired.. before they reach there they first need to sort out quality issues from the scratch.. tall buildings sustain only on a firm glitch free base..
