No trade agreements for automobiles??
Guys here is what i found in an NewsCenter Article.
Indo-Japan Free Trade Agreement (FTA) is likely to be implemented from April this year, according to the Commerce Secretary Rahul Khullar.
He said that Japan is to implement immediate duty cuts on Indian imports, while India is to take the similar action in ten years for Japan. However, India will not cut duties on Japanese Auto products.Indo-Japan FTA likely to be implemented from April - Moneycontrol.com -sigpic

Crap !!!Originally posted by TwistedSouL View PostHowever, India will not cut duties on Japanese Auto products. In his opinion, Indian auto sector needs to be more competitive.
They need taxes, they need duties, they need high fuel prices and they also expect OEMs to produce their components locally. Our Government policies sucks big time when it comes to high end automobiles.Even the highways are not prepared for that.
I think the same goes for the Italian and German manufacturers as well
All I can say now, I really do not care now, I have to pay to avail lifestyle products anyway.Let Government personnel get rich with innumerable scams and our hard earned money. We have to live with it.
With that amount of taxes and duties,if they really made it to our national treasury,India would have entered the Golden age again.Hell's Angel

Democracy belongs to 150 crore people, Biker's community is miniscule.A protest would be a forgotten chapter soon.Originally posted by hotshot.vipin View Post.
WHAT ABOUT A PROTEST
The community would be grossly outnumbered with more than 90 percent of the biking populace just into Splendour and Platina and their reasoning is who the f**k cares about imports and high end bikes ??
So gotta live with it bro.
The government doesn't even listen to some Japanese OEMs who demanded easing the duty.....what difference can a privileged few got gets their daily two time meals make ??
I am tired of living here.........there is so much negativity and mean-ness in thought process.Hell's Angel

Hmmm... from the govt's point of view, can't really blame them for keeping automotive stuff out of the scope of duty cuts. If I were the govt, I would want my indigenous manufacturers to be able to compete with the stuff the Japs make in that sector (if the Jap stuff was to be more affordable - maybe close enough to the indigenously manufactured products - than it is today). I wouldn't want the Japs to come rushing in and eat up thr entire market in a matter of months. As suggested in the post above, the no. of ppl here who want awesome bikes and dont give a damn about where the domestic manufacturer stands and what happens to the domestic manufacturer after you get a 250cc Jap bike for somewhat close to the price of a P220 or close to an R15 (I think it is manufactured locally.. correct me if I'm wrong), is minuscule.
Having said that, I think the domestics players have had a LOT of time to get us high performance bikes with a decent amount of quality (Zma was introduced way back in 1999-2000 and we are still lingering on in that cubic capacity bracket today as the highest cubic capacity engine indigenously produced.. though I am not advocating that cc is the be-all-and-end-all measure of a bike) and should not depend on the govt to keep guarding their complacent as$es forever.

Seriously guys what do you think will happen to up and coming auto manufacturers like Bajaj and Tvs if japs were able to compete with them without restrictions?
You'd be using those in reference to past, thats what will happen..
I guess in next 5-10 years our manufacturers will be able to compete with International players and then the time would be right but till then we just have to keep faith.....Last edited by dushyant123; 02-21-2011, 09:37 AM.Men who still dream of being a pilot or an astronaut are yet to ride a motorcycle.

come on maan....i agree with your point but 110% import duty is just too unrealistic....
with so much duty it seems like the govt. is too partial....atleast something aroun 50% would be fine
it would be giving the japs a fair chance too....els its jus toooooooo much in favour of indegeneous companies
(aur they can help jap companies by reducing duty if they JV with an indian cmpany)_____________________________________________
