Which bike are you enquiring about?? Honda Shine or Suzuki Slingshot ???

    Honda Shine is 10.5 bhp
Suzuki Slingshot uses the same Suzuki Zeus engine which was 8.85bhp, Suzuki Zeus used to do 102 kmph according to the test figures of Bike India magazine.

When I used to own a Suzuki Zeus myself,I clocked 105kmph max in stock conditions on the speedo.Pick-up beyond 80kmph was like Gladiator in stock conditions and there were reasons for this, both Suzuki Zeus and Suzuki Slingshot have a 5th gear despite the low bhp and being just a 125cc.

    My previous ride Suzuki Zeus:

Zeus is a good but unsuccessful bike.

Exactly. Both D125 & D100 have Kenda Chinese make tires which looks ugly .

I have lost count of sub 150 bikes of Bajaj!
Did Bajaj applied for Patent for its Disc-cover?

            Jokes apart,
Good chance for bajaj to makes dents into HH's share of its lower segment.

From now on it won't be difficult .. you just need to remember Discover!! Another reason why Rajiv's strategy of Pulsar/Discover as brands will work rather than Bajaj having so many bikes aimed at nothing!! With Disco 125.. their commuter line-up is more or less complete now. Now, only thing missing is a Boxer like model, which appeals to rural folk.

I believe Discover 100 is more than enough for that kind of job.
The taste and standards of rural populace has changed since the days of CT100 and Boxer AR/AT or Boxer CT.
People in small towns and rural areas love mobiles which have color screens and radio functions and supports multimedia player, a camera is an added bonus and highly liked in rural areas.
So, rural people loves show too apart from owning a work horse.
Discover 100 for that matter has nice looks and the feel too emulates the old CT100 and Boxer models.
That bike sells nicely in rural areas, what Bajaj can do is to market it more in rural areas.

I have a bit different opinion on this. In small towns, let alone the villages, people just look for the amount of metal on the bike. And that too, nice shiny chrome metal. I am not talking about the young people there but a bit older generation. I have heard people praise HH bikes because it has metallic mudguard and nice shiny rear grab bars. I guess Boxer would do well in such scenarios.

Well, maybe they should aim for a TVS Max 4R like bike. I mean, which has a rural edge, but should also have a speciality in pulling loads. I think even a 6.5 bhp rural Boxer would succeed, provided it has enough torque to pull loads, plus 4 rear suspensions, removable seats, 4 speed, attachable sidecar, etc..
Once and for all the rural guys and load pullers would be happy!

Discover 100 is much different from what I described above, ain't that right guys?

All that matters now is "Pulsar" and "Discover" (in whatever cc).

That's a good move in my opinion.. I think Bajaj is stepping on gas coz, they know this is the opportunity they have been waiting for long long time.. While Bajaj will be going all out with it's KTM, Pulsar, Discover & Boxer strategy, Hero will be busy sorting out their R&D and sourcing of engines for their popular models. Honda will be busy in boosting their dealership network.. Bajaj & TVS are in good shape to garner as much market share as possible in the next two years!!

it may not be 14bhp.. but it would be torquey enough to have good pulling power for our rural folk.

It could be down-tuned or same-specced as Discover 150's engine, so that could be priced around the 43k mark, without the alloys and good looks. Could deliver good mileage and torque too.

But again, what about the people's mentality (more cc= less mileage)? Can Bajaj overcome the odds?
