FUN FACT: A BMW S1000RR sells for under 6 lac rupees in the US.

now... at 23 lac... besides import duties etc... what's the additional cost for?

23 lakhs thats insane even if you consider its technologically ahead and quicker compared to its rivals. Well cmon how many of the potential buyers would even push these bikes to capabilities ?
X1 or X3...you get the idea

And you are right. Most potential buyers will never take the bike to its limits on Indian roads at least..

true! there lies the irony! we have so few places in our country to really push a superbike to its limits! 23 lakhs! woha! extremely pricey! guess so many times the taxes take the fun out of owning a super bike :P

S1000RR is a superb bike...no doubt but by no means its worth spending almost 10L more than the second and closest best bike the CBR!...isnt,the price one of the reasons that made the S1000 a great bike?!

Who is BMW trying to sell this to?

The ones who know about bikes - Knows that there are cheaper/better/Ooompher alternatives

The ones who dont know about the bike - will find the s1000R headlights weird!

              So a F650 repeat anyone?

Yes there is a tiny niche that has the money and is a BMW fan, and best of luck in finding them!

Been on the horn with Fahad, the BMW contact person. The on road price is "24 lakhs" and they will arrange for upto 90% loan depending on the buyer.

5 bikes have already been sold in the first week... (they are the dealers for the whole of south india, 3 of the buyers are from Bangalore)

Next I need a guy to hack into their computer and get the address so i can do a Nicolas Cage on them...

Any takers for a GTA ;-)

Only a true BMW enthusiast who has the money will care to venture this territory. I wonder how many of those people who own a BMW in India truly use the features offered by their cars...probably most of them just buy it for the sake of show off and as a status symbol..

Many owners would probably be unaware of the systems as their drivers drive the cars most of the time...

Try asking a driver what ESP is or what traction control is...he'd probably faint

Any potential buyer( well most) will not be able to make out the few millisecond difference in 0-100 timing nor the few kmph added to the top speed compared to the options we have right now. Even if i had that sort of money i would rather pick up a Blade/R1 with another Monster/ MT01.

Looks like we are still missing some pics, here are some from when I visited the showroom, about 2 weeks ago

The pricing can never be justified, but hey, I can't even afford a used 600, so point in cribbing about it

The bike is truly an amazing piece of engineering, but some of my observations:
The fairing seemed very flimsy, not even Ninja 250R quality
The clutch seemed fairly heavy, although I haven't ridden it. This is in comparison with the extremely light clutch in a Ducati 696
The brake master cylinder is nissin, by the calipers were Brembo

The swingarm looks like its hewn from one block of metal, quality of welds on the frame is really good, not exposed like the Hayabusa

Please excuse the poor phone quality pics

Also are the pics of the GS1200, displayed along side the S1000RR

Wow...they even got in the R1200GSA. Initial news was that only the R1200GS would be launched.

Now, only if the geniuses at BMW India price it realistically...

If the S1000RR is priced at 23Lacs, how much does the GS1200 cost...?(just curious).

I agree with him totally it would be a fair if its priced around 15-16 , then it makes sense. I agree its the fastest production bike and LOADED with Tech but hey its not the complete package to my eyes .....It LOOKS UGLY compared to the Ducati 1198S which is 1 lac cheaper and more beautiful in very sense, plus we don't have roads to exploit its 200HP @ Crank anywhere in India maybe just near it in MMSC
