Q: Did BMW launched its bikes here officially?
2007 - Hero Honda CBZ Xtreme
    2008 - Yamaha YZF R15
2009 - Hero Honda CBZ Xtreme
    2013 - KTM 390 Duke
    2017 - Yamaha FZ25

But normally I have seen the bike pricing in india is around
      ~Actual bike price + duties(around 120%)

Dont know how much BMW wants to earn from India, are they expecting a 100% profit on this bike or they dont want to sell in more numbers to make it so called exclusive.

      BMW S1000RR price
      Premium Package: $15,880.00
In India it should cost around Rs 1575000
The price for a Beemer with the premium pack is possible. But start with the base model...according to Motorcyclenews.com The beemer costs 12000 pounds where as the Yamaha R1 2010 costs 13500 pounds. Even if all the charges are included the bike should cost a little over than 15 lacs on-road for the base model viz. 23 lacs is just extortion guys. A 1198 SP is much better than that.

They do it for weight reduction.

Coming to BMW pricing in India, yes they have gone way off the mark. The S1000RR was essentially introduced to compete with the jap liter bikes and thats why they purposely priced it in the same range in the international markets. And yes, a few of my buddies who have in their group the S1000RR, CBR, GSXR & ZX (these guys are very aggressive riders), say this thing is absolutely the fastest of the lot & braking is miles ahead of the others, but in terms of overall handling the new CBR is a touch better.

I have seen in many countries (without an advanced big bike culture), the BMW car dealer handles the bike sales as add-on luggage. Normally only a limited no of bikes are allotted to that particular country. Its there at a fancy price like most of the other BMW fashion accessories in the showroom, which is targeted at a 7 series owner or an X5, M5 owner etc.

The pricing & general attitude is also kept like- you have the money, buy it, orelse dont waste our time. So when I hear that the bikes are almost pre-sold at Navneet at these fancy prices, most times I dont think it ends up with the kind of guys who normally buy these bikes for their functional features (I could be wrong). I think the below link on another forum should explain what I am getting at!!! Yeah this pic was shot in bangalore.

            Superbikes spotted in India - Page 184 - Team-BHP

Also, I dont know if I missed something, but I never heard or saw of any grand launch event of BMW bikes, which in itself speaks of how serious they are about India!

Although I am not a big fan of either Harley or Ducati, but so far in India I give full marks to these guys as they have actually gone the extra mile in selling their products as bikes to proper bikers. They both have atleast 2-3 bikes in a affordable price range (I mean in a relative sense for an sbk buyer). They have done a good amount of the relative public relations exercise etc..

                Your partially right..
What they say is the low beam (or high beam one of them) doesn't need to be as big as the other so they do shave off a few grams.. Although i doubt that really helps but the point is they want it to be different that's why the fairing is different on either side..

Anyway, this is the best bike available today i reckon.. But 23 lacs is quite a bummer :\

Damn, I live across the road from Navnit motors. If I knew there was a S1000RR there, I would have visited to take a nice, hard look.

The Navneet Motors showroom in mumbai is in the famous Atria Mall, Worli. It has a delicious spread of all the BMW Motorrad bikes. The S1000 RR, all the boxers etc. Whenever I go there I spend much time ogling at the bikes. The same mall has a Ducati showrrom next to he BMW Motorrad showroom and a Rolls Royce showroom too. A Porsche showroom opposite to the mall and I hear a Jaguar showroom too. Nice place to be at, if you are a auto buff

People who buy bikes like these will not mind spending such a huge amount on it, I mean even a guy who buys an R1 could have got himself a luxury sedan. I don't find it odd to be costlier than the R1.
