May be new bikes have been tested in between 1 A.M to 5 A.M.

    • Is this what Bajaj was refering to the new tech in its pulsar

      Source : http://papers.sae.org/2006-32-0104

Development of a Variable Valve Timing System for Improving the Performance of a Small Two Wheeler Engine

      Abstract
A novel, fully mechanical, simple, compact and cost effective variable valve timing system for two-wheeler application was developed. The details of the system and the performance are discussed. The system uses flyweights to exert a force on a cam, which floats on a shaft against a spring. The movement of the cam is axial and rotational due helical groves on the shaft. The system could start retarding the cam phasing after a predetermined speed. The system when implemented on a small scooter engine of 125 cc resulted in an increase in the volumetric efficiency at low speeds by 8%. The torque was improved by 10%. There was a reduction in the fuel consumption due to reduced throttling losses and leaner mixtures. When the system was implemented on a two-wheeler and tested on a chassis dynamometer on the Indian Driving Cycle a reduction in fuel consumption of 5% was noted. The emissions were also within limits. On the whole it is concluded that this system can be implemented on small engines for better performance

        • ^^^ that was a technical paper presented by Bajaj engineers quite a while ago on Variable valve timing tech for two wheelers.. suspected as one of the candidates for this "next level to motorcycles" technology.

            • P200 and KTM duke might share numerous things but I am pretty sure they will be launched here as two different products. The idea behind pulsar range is "performance for masses". The new upcoming P200 might not spot high tech wizadary like DOHC, PGM Fi etc to keep the cost in check and will be positioned as an entry level performance bike while the Duke 200 will be marketed as niche product which will serve the purpose of making people aware about technological capabilities of company.

                  Right said.

DNA of Pulsar is a Value for Money performance commuter bike. It's logical for it to hold on to its core value and existing customer base.

The KTM Duke will cater to the upper end of the performance segment. Head on in terms of image, performance and price with the likes of Yamaha R15 and Honda CBR250R.

                    • Then what about p135, p150 and p180? Won't they be upgraded too? Is bajaj planning to launch only p200 in new platform along with the duke and let the others stay in the current state itself?

                      • If the new Pulsar is 4 valved, SOHC Liquid cooled i dont see it being priced near the existing Pulsars.
Speculation from my side: 1.1L for the Pulsar and 1.4L for the Duke.

I won't be going in for any of these though. It's the Desert Storm for me

Kinda annoyed at how all the roadside chhokra log seem to ride all the 'performance' 150-250cc bikes, at least here in mumbai. (Except for the Ninja 250) I'm done with this! No chance im ever spending money on anything less than a 600.

No they wont upgrade....may be later on after the reviews and customer satisfaction but since P200 will now be getting a liquid cooler...don't think they will integrate the same on pulsar lower CC version; cost will matter a lot in this upgrade...only thing they can upgrade is 4 value engine...
