ARE YOU READY! Yamaha R25 Launch
Date Officially Revealed


The wait is finally getting over. After tons of
spy shots of test mules and production ready
versions, Yamaha has finally and officially
decided to launch the YZF R25 in Indonesia.
The company has put up a web page which
reads loud and clear that the baby YZR M1
will be born on 20.05.2014 which is merely
10 days away!
So, Indonesia will become the first country in
the world to get the first R25. Considering that
Yamaha showcased the R25 concept at the
Delhi Auto Show in February, Indian launch
should not be too far away.
This is a breaking news for all you Yamaha
aficionados who have been waiting to get a
glimpse of the new motorcycle for a long time
now, right since the day Yamaha showcased it
in the Tokyo Motor Show. Yamaha has been
promoting the motorcycle as a very sporty
race-bred M1 based motorcycle and had in
fact roped in Rossi to take the word around.
Contrary to the low slung handlebars and
depicted aggressive riding posture on the
concept models, the test mules that have
been spotted so far did not have such back-
bending riding stance.

It seems Yamaha will promote the R25 as a
baby M1 as they have hinted in the latest
teasers as well. What the Indonesian launch
will do is provide us pricing details along with
the more important official specifications
including its engine, power and torque.
Yamaha has very recently launched the R15 in
Indonesia and the price difference there may
signify an approximate differentiation here in
India as well.
Yamaha is also giving away AGV VR46 helmet
to the first owner of R25 in Indonesia.

Yamaha YZF-R25 launch date confirmed

YAMAHA'S YZF-R25 will be launched on May 20, according to an official teaser website for the new model.
The parallel-twin 250cc sports bike is being billed by Yamaha Indonesia as a 'baby YZR-M1' MotoGP bike.
The Indonesian-built R25 is expected to be followed by a 300cc version for Europe called the YZF-R3, to take on Kawasaki's Ninja 300 and KTM's forthcoming RC90.
Yamaha is also expected to use the platform to further expand its 'Master of Torque' range, with an MT-25 based on the same frame and engine, just as it has used the R125 as the basis for the recently unveiled MT-125.

Yamaha Indonesia's teaser site shows the bike partially obscured by a garage door, while a message says: 'The baby YZR-M1 will be born 20.05.2014.'
The R25 is expected to make 35-37hp.

A 'concept' version with no lights was revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show in November. The final production version will have twin headlights.
One Indian bike website is speculating that it could have a single-cylinder engine instead of the widely anticipated parallel-twin.

Helmets that ‘increase chance of death’ seized





A NUMBER of helmets which were on sale in Peterborough have been seized by Trading Standards for being unfit for purpose.

Bikers who have purchased a Chinese Jiekai helmet, model JK 100 or JK 1000, are urged to stop using it immediately and return it to their supplier.

Tests on some of the recovered helmets found they failed impact tests, failed to absorb energy and therefore give proper protection to the wearer, and the chin straps could be pulled apart by hand.

Peter Stonely, Principal Trading Standards Officer, said: ‘As someone who does ride a motorcycle I am shocked by these results.

‘They failed impact tests, being destroyed within two impacts, rather the full five it should take.

‘This would give a rider almost no protection in a crash, increasing the chance of brain injury or death.

‘Wearing them would give the rider a sense of safety, which the helmet would not back up.

‘You may as well not wear a helmet, they are that dangerous.’

'If in doubt, do not use these helmets, they will not meet the legal standards, so you are breaking the law by wearing them and they put you at real risk of unnecessary injury in the event of an accident.'

Lightning's Electric Superbike takes 2013 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb

Innovation through competition. That is the corporate motto of Lightning Motorcycle Corp., the designers and manufacturers of the Electric Superbike. A production version of the Electric Superbike has won this year's Pikes Peak International Hill Climb among two wheelers (both gas and electric) with a time of 10 minutes and 0.964 seconds. The nearest competitor, racing a Ducati Multistrada, finished with a time nearly 20 seconds slower.


The Lightning Motorcycle Electric Superbike seems to collect records as easily as falling off a log. It holds the current world records for fastest production motorcycle (189.086 mph / 304.304 km/h), and in a tweaked version for fastest electric motorcycle (215.960 mph / 374.554 km/h). While setting this latter record, the equivalent fuel mileage was still better than 50 mpg. Now it also holds the record for fastest ascent of Pikes Peak by an electric motorcycle. More importantly, it is the first electric motorcycle to win over a field of gas-powered motorcycles.
Carlin Dunne, who rode the Superbike to two-wheel victory at Pikes Peak this year, is no stranger to records himself. He has now won the Pikes Peak climb three years in a row, and owns the all-time record of nine minutes and 52.819 seconds for his performance in 2012 on a Ducati Multistrada 1200.

Of course, the Pikes Peak Climb is ideally suited to electric bikes. It takes place at altitudes that make regular gasoline engines cough and wheeze. But as the twists and turns of the course are a bit more difficult on a bike with a battery pack weighing about 250 pounds (110 kg), what the Superbike wins in the straights might be lost in the roundabouts. But not this year.
The Electric Superbike boasts an amazing set of specs. The motor is an internal permanent magnet Remy HVH250, an oil-cooled electric topping out at 10,000 rpm that pumps out in excess of 125 hp (92 kW). The exact value isn't specified, and the HVH250 can put out 230 hp (170 kW) at higher voltage than used in the Superbike. The basic Superbike comes with a lithium-ion battery pack that holds 12 kWh of energy at 370 volts, but a larger pack can be chosen. The total weight of the bike is just under 500 pounds.
Lightning claims 0 - 100 mph (160 km/h) time of 3 seconds, and acceleration from 100 mph to top speed (166 mph for the basic Superbike) in less than ten seconds.

The Superbike uses a monocoque design by Glenn Kerr, wherein the battery pack and motor serve a dual function as the primary stressed elements of the chassis, a design whose equivalent appears in most large gas-powered bikes. The swingarm of the Superbike is directly connected to the rear of the motor.
Lightning's Superbike is equipped with user-programmable regenerative braking, allowing the batteries to be charged whenever the throttle is closed and the brakes applied. The effect on the ride is said to closely replicate the engine braking effect characteristic of gas-powered bikes. The programming allows the user to balance the braking between maximum range and driving style.
As for range, Lightning says that if the rider can expect a range over 100 miles (160 km) on the highway, and perhaps 150 miles (240 km) in mixed driving. So even with recharge times of under two hours, the bike cannot be confused with a touring bike.
A basic version of the Superbike can now be purchased for US$38,888. Lightning has not given details on the available options, but control electronics that provide larger voltages to the motor would be of particular interest, as would a gear ratio (the enormous torque of an electric motor makes shifting unnecessary) more similar to the record-winning prototypes.
The Lightning Electric Superbike could provide a practical proposition for would-be weekend warriors. The bike can be driven as a commuter during the week, for which it has sufficient range and recharge times. On the weekends, it is one of the fastest bikes available for short races. The market may be limited, but most riders will not be able to safely wring the top performance out of a Superbike. Still, many would like to try.

Yamaha also announced several accessories for the R15. Among them is a performance package consisting of Sakura full system exhaust and Daytona ECU. The Daytona ECU contributes an extra 0.5 HP. Additionally, the ECU has a bluetooth module which can be tuned via an Android application. The ECU offers 4 "ride modes" of ECO, Sport, LITE Tuning, and Racing. The package is priced at ~Rs. 18k. Although this performance package will be available freely, Yamaha does emphasise that it is only for race/track purposes.

Nice review B7ACKTHORN. But the RC 125 has still a lot to do to catch up with R-125 and MT-125(at least design wise). Yes, if they are bringing in the same to Indian soil with a reasonable price tag, they won't have to look back.
