Lol even I got confused whether its avg speed or mileage at first.

    To calculate mileage:
    1) Note down ODO reading(Or better reset one trip meter) when you hit reserve, say reading as X
    2) Fill up at nearest bunk, say Y liter.
    3) Ride within speed limits till you hit reserve again, note down reading now, say Z.

Mileage in KMPL will be :
    Z-X
    Y

      • Here's a pic of my TBTS 350 after fitting the Air Fly crash guard + Chrome rear view mirrors. The existing Air Fly crash guard fits as it is. It does not interfere with the foot pedals. However, the Diamond crash guard does touch the foot pedals (as mentioned by Vinay earlier). I was clear that I wanted to go in for the Air Fly design, hence bought the crash guard from a spare parts shop and fitted it on my own (Was much tougher than I thought it would be..Phew!). If you want to go in for the Air Fly crash guard, I suggest you get one immediately. There is no need to wait for the new crash guard to arrive.

And earlier today, I also changed the stock black plastic RVMs and replaced them with the RE Electra Chrome mirrors. Finally, my beloved beast now looks complete! (the plastic RVMs were really killing me).

1st servicing is due in 4 days time. Will post my post-servicing experiences soon! If anyone wants any specific info regarding my ride experiences so far, feel free to ping me

        • Woah! This is the color I wanted when I bought my first TB in 2004. They have finally come-up with a nice looking bike.

          • I know the plastic VRMs were killing you but now your new TB looks like the OLD TB. One should move with time sometimes. I'd use the factory fitted ones anyday as they give the "new look"

To each his own. I prefer the chrome mirrors any day, since I wanted the 'original look'

              • Post-servicing update of my new Thunderbird 350

Well, I got my first servicing done 2 days back. Due to a variety of reasons, I was able to give my TB for the 1st servicing only after around 800 kms of running (instead of 500). Anyway, post-servicing, initially I didn't feel any difference in the performance as compared to pre-servicing. If any, the TB seemed slightly sluggish after the servicing. Also, the gear shifting had become much more harder than before. I decided to wait, watch & observe the performance for a couple of days (and not rush to the ASC immediately). The sluggishness in the pickup & overall ride seems to have gone now (at the most, I would say it shows up very rarely). However, the gear shifts were irritating me quite a lot. Kept getting a lot of false neutrals when shifting from 2nd to 3rd, and 3rd to 4th. So I finally went to the ASC today. The mechanic rode the Bull and said it was a case of the clutch being a bit hard. He loosened it and things are back to normal.. Gear shifting's fine now.

Experience wise, owning and riding the Bull has been like living a DREAM. Literally. Just sitting on the saddle, grasping those handlebars and looking at the massive 20 litre fuel tank in front of you gives you a feeling of immortality. And then, actually riding the beast takes the feeling several notches higher. What should I say.. Riding the Thunderbird gives so many varied emotions: Immortality, immediate stress buster, solitude, instant blanking of my mind from the outer world.. It really has to be experienced to be 'experienced'.

850 kms done till date. Thousands more to go

                • Guys it's been 5 months since I booked my TB and i am expecting a call from the dealer in a couple of weeks to make the full payment. I'd like to know if I should test drive the bull and do the PDI before it goes in for the registration so in case there are issues with the bike I can ask them to fix it or assign another bike from the lot. Is that possible? or do I have to just accept the bike they provide and ask them to fix the issues (if any) before delivery. Please help

AFAIK there s no such thing as a waiting period. Once they get the lot they distribute them, if you keep pestering them they may give in and give you within 3 or 4 months

I received emails from Royal Enfield assuring me of my Thunderbird 500 by 20 April 2013. I paid the balance amount today by way of demand draft and furnished my passport photographs [5] and other documents. I am told to come and inspect my bike on 16 April 2013 [Tuesday]. They will take 3 more days for registration and delivery.
