as you sow, so shall you reap

As the saying goes what goes around comes around.

To give an example i see lots of parents riding, driving with their kids while breaking traffic rules, riding without a helmet, abusing others, etc. This the kid grows up understanding as nothing wrong as he has seen his parents do it. This in-turn manifests in their attitude, ego, etc.

Shudder to think that the situation can only get worse here Hopefully forums like Xbhp will be an eye opener for such lost souls.

forums like xbhp is actually of little help as the type of people who show this road rage attitude never read these kind of forums. and even if they read ..... they become happy to know that people actually fear them giving a false sense of supremacy or ego.

as pointed by few members the problem is more severe in northern states believe me this problem is spreading really fast to other areas. i have seen a lot of similar incidents in pune.

we xbhpians should intervene and try to dissolve any such incident we come across.

+1. Big mouth of a woman got her and her family into trouble when we decided to file an FIR and press charges for a road rage incident that my parents were victim of. It got her, her husband & son arrested (now out on bail).

Without giving a damn about sounding like a sexist, I really think they should keep their mouth shut in these kinda incidents.

I almost witnessed a similar incident here in Chandigarh. At a railway crossing an autorickshaw collided with a car, the two guys in the car pounced on the rickshaw driver and beat him to a pulp, when we all (read: spineless 'junta') thought it was over, one of the car-wallahs pulled out a two foot long knife and charged at the man . Fortunately, some good samaritans intervened.

I was scared shitless, people can do anything these days, ego or no ego, know mantri jee or no mantri jee, there are people who'll send you to hell just like that, its better to stay polite and hope that the other person does not kill you.

P.S. A mask and a bat-mobile would also be fine.

Burning somebody alive for a trivial matter as a minor accident!! Where are we heading as a nation? Dont these incidents say a word or two about our culture and heritage? For all the glorification, I feel Indian culture and heritage is grossly over rated.

No civilized country in the world can have its citizens burning each other for such trivial matters. And these are not one off incidents, we get to hear many such cases daily. Road rage is something that has now become ubiquitous on Indian roads.
You are right dude. Indians are surely highly over rated and they think themselves as some God. If not all then most of them. I hate it.

while road rage is something that happens at a small scale everywhere in the world, i think it is on the higher side in india because of the weak laws that we have.
Recently a friend of mine was involved in a road rage incident where some guys spat paan on his car and some of it came on the female passengers sitting in the backseat. When he confronted them the guys instead of apologizing got into a fist fight with him(he sent bot of them to the hospital as he is a huge guy). later these guys somehow tracked down his adress and a couple of days later came to his house at 3 in the night with around 50 people to beat him up. When the cops were called there they said 'hum in logo ko rok nahi sakte aap log aapas mein nipta lo'.... if cops are scared of even taking action against people doing wrong then everyone is obviously going to take the law into their own hands.
Had there been a strong law enforcement in our country:
                1. Those guys woudnt have spit at a traffic signal as according to law its a crime to be littering the roads.
                2. My friend would have taken them to the cops instead of getting into a fist fight for fear of being put into jail for fighting himself.
                3. Those guys would have been taken to jail for breaking and entering onto someones private property without consent and for carrying weapons with them.

But as people know that none of these are going to happen so people take the law in their own hands and go t extremes...

even i have seen and experienced this spitting thing myself.

a lot of riders and drivers have this habit of spitting while driving/riding.
                  • truck drivers spitting out of the windows just when a two -wheeler is about to overtake them.
                  • truck helpers spitting out of the windows just when they overtake a two -wheeler.
                  • taxi/indica drivers spitting out of windows.
                  • some two-wheeler riders also spits continuosly while riding.
i have been in some such incidents myself- and my way of tackling them- is, since this happens when both the vehicles are moving and the other vehicle involved is a four or more wheeler-
                  • give them a hard look/stare.
                  • pass them/overtake them fast while abusing them loud and clear.
                  • honk horn continuosly.
                  • overtake them and then slow down and let them pass and then again overtake them, annoy them, they will feel that you are chasing them, and they will fly away in fear... 99.9% of time.
                  • overtake them and maintain a distance and wait for a moving truck to appear in front, when you find a truck, go to the side of the truck and match speed with truck, blocking them , ignore, their horns and keep blocking for sufficient time to make them understand that it is done purposefully. then move aside, giving a hard look. they will mostly fly away.
but while doing above make sure, there are not more than 2-3 guys in that 4 or more wheeler. situational awareness helps.

well, i know i should not post this, but there is no other way to tackle this menace, and i experience it almost daily. sometimes you have to vent your anger, without getting into a fist fight or heading to police station.

sometimes situation can turn over quickly, while going from aamby valley to lonavala, a bike rider spit on the right side moments before i was about to pass him, i was much faster then him, i gave him a very hard look and blew horn and reduced speed immediately. he understood and he also reduced speed, after say 2-3 mins suddenly it came to my mind there are villages around and they guy may be a local, so i checked in rear view mirror, and OMG ... i was being chased by a group of bike riders, i thanked god i checked in mirror, but by that time it was a bit late and one of the guys overtook me, but i increased speed and ran away. luckily i was better then them in terms of bike and riding skills (may be) so i quickly disppeared.

                  so be carefull.

These are exactly the things that could trigger a serious road rage incident, You are lucky that nothing of that sort has happened yet to you but i would request you to think twice next time you try to follow the above principles of yours.

Here in Ahmedabad the traffic is so bad people hardly bother about accidents, if there is one people generally just smile and move on, also being most from Business backgrounds might also be affecting their behaviour

Yes every one gets angry when something wrong happens with them. But then this is how things get out of hand. You get angry and curse them, he gets angrier and hits you, you get more angry and kick him, he gets even more angry and god knows what he does.

I m sorry and this indeed is a sorry state of affairs. Majority of people on our roads are not civilized. This shows in their behaviour. Such people dont value others sentiments or pains and they are the ones who get to extremes in provocative situations. Unfortunately as I said our roads are full of them.

Even in your case, things could have turned scarier as you yourself admitted. I would suggest no body to lose your cool incase something of such sort happens on road. After all dirt can be washed off.

What if the guy is a psycho carrying a gun or a knife with him? After all only such people who have scant regards for others around them do such stupid things, and they can go to any extent as it hardly matters to them. For us, its different. After all we have people at home waiting for us.
                          Its not always about speed.

I want to quote one Ad by blore Traffic Police.
"If you get into a road rage incident, take a deeeeeeep breath and LET IT GO"
                            Damn true aint it ?
I make it a point never to stand next to a parked Bus near signals to avoid such incidents.
Offcourse its a different issue if he spits on my bike
