It is interesting to note that for both Honda and TVS motorcycle sales have increased while scooter sales have reduced. This is probably because of the spiraling prices of petrol. New entrant in the scooter market Yamaha might not find it to be smooth sailing.

I have a sugestion, instead of creating a new thread every time a sales report is posted, ww should have a single dedicated thread for sales report, and all the latest things should be posted in one thread only. so in future, it will also serve as a central database, and it will be easily accessible information.

To strengthen its sales team in the country, Honda sent five veteran salesmen in their 30s, 40s and 50s who have proven track records in Africa and Southeast Asia.

One member of this elite team, Takeshi Senda, handles central India, an area with a population of 300 million.

Senda, who travels with his own spoon and boxes of mosquito coils, spends many days on the road looking for new markets, sometimes driving six or seven hours on a single trip.

"India is a society where a product's reputation spreads through word of mouth. The key to success will be my ability to get customers to say, 'Honda's products are good,'" said Senda, 54.

Honda is scrambling to open new dealerships and promote its new fuel-efficient model, the Dream Yuga, which went on sale in May 2012. In July, its market share topped 20 percent on a monthly basis for the first time since the joint venture with Hero ended.

Honda will open its third plant in India in May, allowing it to produce more than 4 million units per year.

While Hero is still relying heavily on volumes from bikes based off Honda's CD100 engine which sell only due to popularity and faith/trust, but are in reality somewhat mediocre thanks to the combination of bettering competition and adherence to pollution norms that has reduced their expected kmpl from 80s range to 60s range, I like where Bajaj and Honda are heading. They're launching bikes with higher fuel efficiency, higher power, larger size (physical size) and newer technology which are at the same time very profitable for the company. Especially true for Bajaj due to strict adherence to the min 20% margin rule and lack of low margin scooters in their portfolio. I hope AVL readies an engine soon for Hero to compete properly with the Dream Yuga and D104.
