      As per Mr Bajaj,

      1) Bajaj is very conservative company and they design platforms and not products. Thats the reason styling is same
      2) Company will use this platform to introduce higher powered Discover bikes. So expect D150 ST.
      3) Bells and whistles are to attract a customer in 150cc category and not for commuter bikes. So there are no fancy features
      4) Premium Pulsar scheduled to be launched in comming months. Expect P150 NS without rear disc break.

With two Indian Manufacturers launching 100cc bikes with a difference in a span of two days, is there going to be a visible shift in the mindset of the commuter? Or are these manufacturers shooting in the dark?

This bike looks great for a 100cc. Styling and power figures are spot-on and will give its owner a premium feel. Two thumbs up to Bajaj.

Will this cannibalize D125ST? There is not much difference in top speed and for the price difference we get mono shocks and disk brakes in D125ST. Will the general customer still go for D125 ST?

I think many prospective customers for D125ST will move to D100T.

this is a nice package for a 100 CC, power, mileage, style, features etc....i think it is the best looking 100 CC till date. only downside is that due to more technology, its maintenance may be more than other 100 CC bikes. still it is good.

so now we have Discover 100T, 125ST, and will soon have a 150SST. that will complete the Discover range.

in pulsar range we will have a P150 NS, we already have a P200NS, then we may also have in future a P250NS or a P375FS.

                  nice.

So is this a move to kill the Phoenix? Dunno yet, but Tourer tag is really pathetic, personally! But let's see how it unfolds

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

                      It's very close to D125ST

But have amazing things likes : 5th gear, I guess it's the only 100cc bike with 5 gears right ?

                      4 valve DTSI

80kmpl+ really it's a nice product. But looks is like copying!! From a distance D125ST and D100T is very same in looks.

The older 2-valve Discover 100 DTS-SI also comes with 5 gears. The 4 gear Discover 100 was launched only recently.

This is what Overdrive has to say about D100T.

                            Highlights

                            - 10.2PS FROM A 100CC ENGINE!

                            - 4 VALVE HEAD A FIRST IN THE SEGMENT

                            - AIMS FOR THE TOP OF THE ENTRY-SEGMENT

                            - RS 50,500 EX-DELHI

                            - AVAILABLE NOW

DOESN'T THIS LOOK EXACTLY LIKE THE DISCOVER 125ST, THEN?

Yes it does. The Discover 100T shares a lot of things with the 125ST and the styling is the most obvious of these. The way to tell the two apart is to look at the rear suspension - the 100T wears gas-charged twin shocks whereas the 125ST has its red monoshock nearly hidden by the matte black plastics.

WHY DOES IT HAVE TO LOOK THE SAME?

Bajaj say the reason the 100T looks like the 125ST is because firstly, it is the same brand — in that sense it is a brother to the 125ST. But more importantly, the curved sculpted bodywork and all are there to ensure that the 100T (which is to be positioned as a top-entry motorcycle or A3 segment as Bajaj calls it, as in competes with, for example, the Hero Passion) stands out.

                            SERIOUSLY?

Well, we found Rajiv Bajaj's explanation of the logic for the 100T pretty interesting. Bajaj said that they had originally attacked the entry-level segment in more or less the same way as everyone else. Which is with products that competed with the market leader by offering similar features, economy and performance at a lower price. Obviously, the Hero Honda (now Hero) juggernaut shrugged off these challenges.
Bajaj says they realized that their next strategy — offering more performance for the same price was working but not as well as they would have liked. In their words, approaching the 100cc bike problem with a 125cc motorcycle that did the economy required but offered more performance didn't work as well they would have liked.
So now Bajaj is doing the exact opposite in a sense, something they say has not been tried in the market so far. By adding the four valve head and twin spark plugs, Bajaj are extracting 100cc class economy and 125cc class performance from the 100T. As in keeping their extra performance edge but without crossing displacement classes. Displacement (cc) still determines a lot in terms of perception of a product in the Indian motorcycle market and we believe this is an accurate insight. Coupled with a generous spread of features, Bajaj are hoping to gain market share at the very top of the entry-segment, the slice of the segment that is growing is the fastest and is currently without Bajaj products. And to that end, Bajaj is offering the motorcycle at a slight premium to the competing Hero motorcycles at Rs 50,500 ex-showroom Delhi.

WOW! I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY!

There's more. Bajaj explained further that they have discovered over time that when they come up against a market leader, they can only compete (obviously) by offering more. As in more economy, or more performance or ideally both. But that this is hard to do (the engineering challenge) is only one part of it. The bigger part is how much better does the competing product have to be?
Bajaj say 10 per cent extra isn't enough incentive to move away from the leader brand. But if the market leader offers 10 per cent more, it might be good enough a reason for customers to upgrade. 20 per cent better on the part of the competition encourages some customers to switch from the market leader but not in the numbers Bajaj likes. So now they aim to offer 30 per cent more - the threshold beyond which the market leader’s powers wane and customers become likely to switch brands en masse in India. That is the reason why the 100T was going to make 10Ps or more right from the initial design stage.

ENOUGH PHILOSOPHY. WHAT ABOUT THE BIKE?

The new engine sits in a 125ST frame and promises more power and the same economy as any other 100cc bike, with a handful of premium features thrown in. As such, the alloy wheels and electric start are standard. On the move the motorcycle did feel more like a 125 in terms of power and torque than a 100 but the short ride was simply too short to draw any conclusions about economy. The engine felt more or less like the 125ST's in terms of refinement - vibration isn't an issue but it gets throaty when the revs are up.
Handling felt neat and tidy except for the (to be expected) budget tyres which do the daily routine just fine but the few sportier riders buying the 100T will probably want to upgrade the rubber. No disc brakes on the menu at the moment, just so you know.
A more detailed story will be in the magazine in the February issue. Also, book mark this page - we are taking the motorcycle for a longer ride shortly and we will update this page with new impressions and more detailed analysis.

I am overall happy for this bike but am slightly dissapointed and just hope that there are not too many versions for the same model but slight looks differences must be done between models to avoid confusion. After all a 150ST owner would like to differenciate himself from 125ST who would in turn do that with 100T. 100T owner would be happy though

I beg to differ on that. The earlier discover looked eyesore but the new discover range looks good and somewhat better than the current herd of 100ccs. The other 100cc which looks good is the twister. Splendor/passion/hayate have a dull design. People tend to agree.

The features of the bike looks good..... it'll provide the performance of a 125 with the mileage of 100..... few techno gadgets..... but if Bajaj really wanna take it on against Twister & Passion, shouldn't the design be more aggressive..... 100L looks good, but it doesn't bring the premium feel like Twister..... anyways, sales figure will ultimately speak for Bajaj.....
