    Re: Bajaj launches discover 100T

i think pulsar 150ns will have the same look like it is now except mono shocker and the engine. not sure if they will have the underbelly exhaust.
my intuition is that pulsar 180 will be phased out.

Bajaj has gone ever so slightly overboard with the pricing of the Discover 100T. It is priced at Rs.300 odd less than Discover 125 DTSI (2-valve) Disc. So, for Rs.300 odd more (i.e. practically nothing), you can get:
        1. More power
        2. Disc Brakes instead of drum in front, a bigger drum at the rear.
        3. A lighter bike which gives it even better power to weight ratio.

All this inside the same showroom on bikes parked practically side by side.

It was justifiable on the Discover 125ST (over the Discover 150) due to the Monoshock and equal power outputs. But as it stands now, I don't see any tangible benefits of opting for the 100T over the 125DTSi (2-valve) apart from the slightly better fuel economy that the less powerful 100T should offer over the 125DTSi. But then the general populace doesn't think like me and could prefer a 100cc over a 125 due to the very fact that a 100cc bike is 100cc!!
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Then what do you call the people who buy a Passion Pro over a Discover 125 that costs the same and still comes with MUCH higher power and disc brake ? Or customers of Honda Twister, Dream Yuga, Shine, etc that are simply overpriced ?

Bajaj tried pricing the way you and I learnt to expect them to but failed in the commuter segment, because there are lacs of urban customers who are not bikers but commuters. Majority of them earn 30k and above per month - the same salary an average IT fresher of a biker enthusiast earns and uses to buy his 80k OTR 150cc machine. Commuters just happen to prefer 100cc bikes in general and its not like they lack money. So they go for the best (variable definitions) commuter bike which is typically a 100cc machine. So the Discover 100T is perfect in that sense - it appeals to commuters. Sedate commuters wouldn't miss a disc brake, they would prefer a Discover 100T's seating comfort over that of the Discover 125 and several other tiny 100cc bikes, and would drool over the mileage figures.

As a biker though, I just feel sad that this bike lacks disc brake in the front. If it had a disc setup, it'd be the best "enthusiast's commuter bike". The bike you can take to office and malls comfortably, not worry about people messing with it, fuel expenses running high, etc while the weekend ride is left alone until the weekend.

Guys.. I followed the entire discussion.. But one thing baffles me.. At it's price range even discover 125st does not have tubeless tyres.. This is a huge turn off for me coz I have a herniated disc and I will rather die than tow a bike with punctured tyre.. was looking at impulse for ride comfort for my herniated disc.. Could not afford it.. Can afford 125 st or 100t.. Zeroed out and waiting for 100t specs.. Now after I saw this Am back at square one.. was much in 100t potential buyers.. But now guess 125st.. What say..?

Well, tubeless tyres will push the price further up! i'm sure Bajaj will bring them as an upgrade/option at some point of time in future provided that 100t/125st becomes successful in market. If much of your riding happens within city, then 100T is still a good choice. I think it's possible to change tyres to tubeless once you get the bike! i'm not sure though.

You can always opt for the Honda Twister / Dream Yuga if you really insist on Tubeless tyres. Or you can get Dazzler/R15v1 spec. MRF tyres installed on Discover 125ST.. that will be a more fun solution . Impulse also doesn't have Tubeless tyres BTW.

Anyways, a guy on the forum might be swapping his stock Discover 125ST tyres to tubeless ones pretty soon. You might want to wait till he does the mod. If its successful, we can say almost with certainty that the swap should also work on the Discover 100T.

P.S.: We really shouldn't be comparing Discover 100T with the other run of the mill 100/110cc bikes. Its performance is more at par with competition 2-valve 125s.

Vrugonnab, Antz.bin.. Thanks very much for the suggestions guys.. Will wait awhile then.. Omg.. impulse doesn't have tubeless tyres? The manager was pushing me to buy it saying it does, at avp motors sainikpuri hyderabad.. Dono y but am not considering yuga or twister.. R15 is not good for my back.. Dazzler was not considered may be I should get a test ride..My heart is on these new bajaj commuter range.. It will be either these or none.. Yes city riding mostly.. But on vacation I bike down 650 approx kms to tirupati which is my home town as I need my bike there.. Probably thrice a year.. But all said Impulse was pretty comfortable and riding position is apt for my slipped disc.. Shame it's not priced a bit lower.. So staying non impulsive to be a discoverer..

if you really liked impulse then go for it. i understand that you said it is to pricy for you but if you think it as one time investment i don't think it should concern much but 125st is a comfortable bike too. can't say how good it will perform long drives to tirupati though. if you can stay within 70km/hr speed then it's fine. maybe you should test drive dazzler too. it is comfortable too.

Clarifying on the bit in bold, Never told you to go for R15. I only suggested that you get R15v1 Tubeless Tyres installed on a Discover which are the same size as of Discover 125ST.
