
The 'much' bigger version of the Pulsar will surely be the Pulsar 375, based on the Duke 390. The question is what will the new smaller Pulsar engine be. A new 150cc Pulsar maybe?
Bajaj believes that these new models will help the company defend the 50% market share that they enjoy in the premium segment in India. He also believes that the recent tie-up between TVS and BMW will not have an easy road to displace the KTM-Bajaj brand, as by 2015 Bajaj will have a leg up in terms of brand value. He drew a comparison with Honda and Toyota launching small cars in India, but still not being able to dent Maruti's sales!
Bajaj said that the TVS - BMW tie up is similar to the KTM - Bajaj tie up in three respects. Firstly, the intention to design and manufacture motorcycles in the 250-500 cc range. Second is BMW bringing the technology to the project and thirdly TVS bringing in cost efficiency.
Even though two new Pulsars are planned this year, the focus of the company will still be on the commuter segment and the Discover 100T, which apparently has met with very good response from the public. 25000-30000 is the monthly sales figures for the Discover 100T.
The MD of the company believes that not only the overall two wheeler market will be flat, but also the fast growing scooter market will also cool off drastically.
