  • Bajaj plans 2 new Pulsars this year

In an interview with CNBC TV 18, Rajiv Bajaj said that the company plans two new Pulsar models. One smaller than the 200NS and one 'much' bigger!

The 'much' bigger version of the Pulsar will surely be the Pulsar 375, based on the Duke 390. The question is what will the new smaller Pulsar engine be. A new 150cc Pulsar maybe?

Bajaj believes that these new models will help the company defend the 50% market share that they enjoy in the premium segment in India. He also believes that the recent tie-up between TVS and BMW will not have an easy road to displace the KTM-Bajaj brand, as by 2015 Bajaj will have a leg up in terms of brand value. He drew a comparison with Honda and Toyota launching small cars in India, but still not being able to dent Maruti's sales!

Bajaj said that the TVS - BMW tie up is similar to the KTM - Bajaj tie up in three respects. Firstly, the intention to design and manufacture motorcycles in the 250-500 cc range. Second is BMW bringing the technology to the project and thirdly TVS bringing in cost efficiency.

Even though two new Pulsars are planned this year, the focus of the company will still be on the commuter segment and the Discover 100T, which apparently has met with very good response from the public. 25000-30000 is the monthly sales figures for the Discover 100T.

The MD of the company believes that not only the overall two wheeler market will be flat, but also the fast growing scooter market will also cool off drastically.

The bigger Pulsar is old news. The smaller Pulsar sounds interesting - will it be a redesigned, liquid-cooled P135?

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

that will eat the sales of Pulsar 150..

I too think that a Pulsar150 is on the cards with 4V & three spark plugs..LC is highly doubtful in that segment!!

What if they make a 150cc, Triple spark, 4-valve, LC+Carb, ~18Ps replacement Pulsar for the Pulsar 180, i.e. the oldest Pulsar in their current lineup? Its been quite a while that the P180 saw a refresh, it does need a thorough makeover now to remain relevant in the face of newer competition.
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

P150 doesn't belongs to performance segment but a commuter class..but somehow P180 is in Performance segment..Bajaj will not loose customers from commuter segment by launching P150 with those much goodies that it can replace P180..both bikes will surely remain in the market!!

Some time back head of KTM told that they were planning a smaller Duke and probably something like D180. So can it be possible that they will launch new P180?

Having said that Bajaj has already delayed launching of a new P150. I think its more than 2 years that a proper revised version of pulsar was launched. If i am correct the speedlines in pulsar were launched somewhere around sep-11 and it was just graphics update.

it is old news but the most relevant news to me as i am currently in the market for a 250 CC bike from 2 to 3 lakhs.

my deadline is next month and i can t wait more but at the same time i dont want to miss out on any good bike which might be coming soon.

+1. Over the years, the P150 has evolved from a performance bike to a commuter, and the looks have 'grown' on us. The low-cc performance segment is an untapped segment and the success of the 'baby pulsar P135' might just invite a sequel.

If anyone remembers the spyshots of the P200NS there were two bikes. One was a 150 and other was 200NS. So it will be 150 and the bigger 350/375

Guys, thinking logically, I think Pulsar 150 being the most powerful carburetted 150cc bike in India, with a power of 15.1 PS, has not much to fear. Maybe Chassis performance, but again its a segment where chassis matters to an extent only. Think about it, if you are in a market for fast bike with a budget of 70k~, what would you choose? P150, right? Unless of course, you consider RTR 160 a part of this segment, with a power of 15.4 PS.

But P180 has a lot to fear. Its getting old, and also, competition from RTR 180 is rendering it obsolete in some important matters- performance, handling, looks, etc.
Also, it was the original Pulsar. And somewhere between the 150 Premiums & 220 Premiums, 180cc is an important segment today even though it may not have many products.
I think there should be a segment shattering 4 valve but carburetted P180 (based on Duke) to knock off RTR 180 once and for all, in most matters.

Although, in reality, yes there maybe a 150 to replace a 180 (this reminds me of R15).
As you know, times change. Probably, Bajaj might forget the 180 like it forgot scooters. Sad but no doubt, we'll have better products. Amen to development.

According to me there are so many pulsars....they should revise the P135 as it is facing internal cometition with discover 125 st..if a 150st comes up...then p135 will sell very less. so a bigger stronger better revised version of P135 should come to replace the P150( discover ST series easily caters to the light lower cc performance segment) and revise the P150 cucbic capacity wise(around 160-170 cc) and even complete technology wise to put it in between the P150 and P180...
