re: Specially modified motorcycles for Mumbai Cops: xBhp News

i think it has more to do with the 'image' and 'presence' of a bull fully 'souped up' with their gadgets etc.. and of-course this will be on a budget so, in a way glad to see the bull's are making a comeback in to police service ;-)
let's see what kind of customization they come up with.

i definitely do not want to see the real sbk's at the hands of the police or any official on govt duty, lest they end up as scrap and sold in auctions in a year or two.

Mumbai or Delhi, Indian police doesn't need big bikes, they need better salaries and regulated work hours for motivation.

I've seen P220s and Karizmas at the hands of police men in Kochi. Seen many REs too in Kerala. But this idea of a souped up bike is nice given they raise the speed limits on our roads. With a measly 50 kmph max these people are going to be enforcers or law breakers if and when they chase hoonigans on bikes? (Sorry DC )

And recently the fire dept here in Kerala introduced souped up red REs with all those gears to arrest fire, except for a ladder to climb, so that they can reach faster than a fire truck and serve inner areas where it's hard for the trucks to reach.

Lol when I first read the title I thought they would be getting litter bikes. silly me.

But if not mumbai police, pune police had such vehicles from a really long time We had a neighbour who had more like state trooper like job in police. He was given full white 500cc enfield equipped with all gizmick available for that time. I remember, I kept looking at that godzilla for long time. All mods were neatly done and I remember it had quite low sling seating compared to standard RE. This reference HD from first photo would look puny in front of that bike.

Ohhh mannn... This made my day... Now I can sleep laughing...

            1. You mention superbikes then you mention classic 350... Pass me the pot you smoking dude... It seems like really good stuff...

            2. With the maintenance standards I think all of us can relax... After 6 mohths you'll see the pandus pushing their bikes instead of chasing...

            3. They don't even know how to use a decent phone... You think they'll be able to operate the laptop and printer...? Most of the times they will be asking the person they have stopped to help them... Be prepared to waste 1 hour instead of 15 minutes everytime you are caught... So this should act as an incentive to follow the rules...

            4. I still can't stop laughing at the "superbike" term used...

            5. The 220's given were sufficient for any chase...

            6. It's not just the bike required... Most of the pandus don't have the balls to ride hard to chase... So even if you give them the R1's it'll be pointless... Because most of them don't know how to ride or have the balls to ride hard...!!
            "stay hungry, stay foolish."

Not to mention their obnoxiously behemoth beer-bellies resting on the fuel tank thereby forbidding them from even grabbing the handlebars... quiet a sight that would be

SuperLOL you made my day man!
Frankly, do cops really need a powerful bike? Real life situations are never like movies and and I've never seen a real life cop chasing somebody on a bike. Cop bikes are purely used for patrolling and VIP escort purposes.

that almost made me fall off my chair .

Title of this thread is misleading. Modify it to something like "Mumbai Cops to ride souped up bullets soon!!!"

This is perfectly fine. Many countries have motorcycles converted into super-mobile fire fighting machines, and in India's case RE's fit the bill as these machines need to carry a lot of load (weight of water, hose, etc.). This has nothing to do with speed. Bikes are preferred over fire truck just because they can reach the areas where these big trucks can't.

like I said above, more than the gizmos they need proper training.

and all those saying policemen don't know how to ride a bike should come to delhi and see the traffic policemen on Pulsars. Their main job is to chase and challan the offenders, and they've brought huge revenues to the state.

blame it on the over-enthusiastic reporter. But seeing 2 such reports in a week where they mentioned REs as 'superbikes' it could be a move by RE's PR machine to position their products differently, though I really doubt it.

@ the thread starter, is it so difficult to find a picture of an RE...??

these bullets will not be used to chase anybody, a 350 RE cant even chase a P150.

the GPS and all is a welcome change.

Yes, and thats what I meant. May be I forgot to add "How nice it is" at the end.

Also they don't carry water with them. They use foam based fire retardant and are very practical.

Cameras, laptops (yeah with that fragile 5400 rpm HD) and camera are now under vibration test at REs special facility, after 1 month of testing and refining, the TECHNOLOGIES now have machined aluminum casing, and laptop weighs at 30kgs with metal body and a wire mesh for display!!!, Total technology will weigh at 150 kgs.(hopefully less than the super bike in question)
