Proper training can only be possible if there is proper infrastructure and training skills available. Across the developed world, police forces have their own dedicated driving schools, infrastructure and training program that train their personnel for all sorts of driving/ riding conditions and situations. Having personally witnessed the riding skills of London Police (their skills in riding under less the ideal conditions is some of the best), I can say that the only people who come within touching distance of these Bobbies in India are the army dispatch riders.

Now coming to the proposal for these so called 'specially modified bikes' lets ask a pertinent question that no one has asked over here. According to the interpretation of Motor Vehicles Act as done by Mumbai Traffic Police, you and I (the common man) can be stopped and fined for ANY change made to our bikes this includes but is not limited to lights, exhaust, body work, color. In short, any addition or deletion to our bikes can attract a fine. I know this because I have been at receiving end on a couple of occasions. In my discussions with couple of very senior cops, I was told that any mechanical changes that we make should be certified and passed by ARAI to be legal. My question is; will these bikes be submitted to ARAI for certification. If yes then ok, the cops are walking the path they are preaching, however, if they are not going to get them certified, then are they, the implementers and custodians of law, breaking the law?

And the supercop who will weigh another 100kgs when undressed, at the very least!

I hope they'd give a 500cc bull for the bullies!

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

This has nothing to do with speed. Bikes are preferred over fire truck just because they can reach the areas where these big trucks can't.

        Also proper training.

like I said above, more than the gizmos they need proper training.

and all those saying policemen don't know how to ride a bike should come to delhi and see the traffic policemen on Pulsars. Their main job is to chase and challan the offenders, and they've brought huge revenues to the state.

There are a very very few of them... And those you speak about in Delhi might be hired looking at their riding skills or trained for it... Also you should really see the scene in Mumbai... You'll really know what I am talking about...

I think this experement was done in early 80's where in Mumbai police was provided with Yamaha RD 350. But the end results was crashes. Police was unable to control the YAMDOOT properly. It is welcome step if Mumbai cops ride special motorcycles provided better trainning before they actually ride it on Mumbaiya roads.....
          Power is nothing without control
