Im Speculating that there's something going on behind the curtain at bajaj. A possible detuning of engine.. I will be really disappointed if they lower down the specs

I think they would increase the price.. they never expected that so many KTMs would be booked in such a short time. The same happened with Renault Duster. Price was increased 40K before even delivering the first car.

edit: I am enjoying looking at the sea of second hand KTMs, CBR 250s and some Ninja's and rare Hyosung that have flooded the market. All because of 2L on road offer on KTM 390. Owning a high end sports bike was never so easy.

To the guy getting worried about the fall of power from 44HP to 43HP.
If you check the specs from the KTM website, the power quoted there is 44, but it is PS not HP. And the indian website quotes as 43.5PS. And If I am not wrong these are the figures that are made at crank and not at wheel. So dont worry about that 0.5PS loss.

Added to that, we have unique saree gaurd, rear tire hugger which add some weight.

PS: The bike that was displayed to Hyderabad KTM (Begumpet), One guy was able to easily unlock 390's fueltank and seatlock with his D200's key. Can any one else confirm if it is happening with other 390's too?

You are right onto the point, its not meant for people who would like to commute with a pillion rider. Guys assume you riding for 1,00000 kms, of that how many kms would you be accompanied by a pillion rider say hardly 10,000 - 20,000kms. You would be riding 80k kms alone. So look what you need when you ride single as a priority.

I agree, even 4 hp with SAME power delivery won't help it to do a power wheelie. But even if there's 4 hp LESS but with DIFFERENT power delivery (with stronger low end) it would make it capable to do a power wheelie.
As we mentioned already, the low end is weaker, and hence there's no enough power to do a power wheelie.
My whole point is that we saw D390 doing power wheelies in those videos from Austria, but now it can't do it. The only logical explanation is that they have detuned the low end and also reduced the peak power by 1 hp.
I don't care about 1 hp less of peak power but I'm sad the low end has been (as it appears) detuned between the debut in Austria and now.


It says the power is 43 hp. It was 44 hp before. KTM always displays power in hp, whereas in India (by law I think) the power always needs to be displayed in PS, 43.5 PS in this case, which is 43 hp.
I explained above what bugs me about the power. It's not paltry 1 hp, it's the power delivery, detuned low end...

But enough about the power. It is as it is, we can't do anything about it. The bike still has plenty of power to make us all happy, it's just that it could have had more.

Regarding the key - yeah, someone mentioned once in D200 thread that someone managed to open a tank of another Duke with his Duke's key, but couldn't start the bike with the same key.
It looks like the tank and rear seat locks aren't very safe...

what is with all this 'power wheelies' thing..!!
first it was the price.. now this.. you can't have everything in one package.. its a boom that we can now ride a near 400cc bike for such an affordable price.. which other 400cc bike is even near the price range of D390..? none !!
not all are into stunting.. only a few in hundred do this.. so for most this is a win-win package..
also if you guys are so interested in stunting.. you can always tune the bike to you liking.. and do what needs to be done
its not that all stock bike can do power wheelies..

how we can say the bike is unable to pop a power wheelie as we are unable(not allowed) to do it on the bike which is available for us for a test-drive at showroom. i am much more concerned about the comfort of the person on the back seat and the mileage of the bike.

Just wanted a clarification on this. I'm not sure if it has already been discussed on this thread. Is it correct that the Top Speed of the KTM Duke, 390 has been electronically restricted to 160 kmph?

I dont think so, the only restriction is the 10,500 rpm cut off which could be related to 160 kmph.

That's whopping 168 kmh at 10,500 rpm in 5th gear!!!
I wonder if there are any volunteers to check the top speed in 6th gear when fully crouched and with enough road!

So what your saying is that there is no electronic restriction on the 390. The bike maxes out at 160-165 right?

I don't think this can be safely checked in 99% of the roads, I think it will required a straight stretch of at least 3kms with absolutely no interference of any kind and not much headwind to get the top numbers and of course the rider has to be wearing full protective gear .

Ok, now what's going on with the review, why is it kept under wraps? I hope MG didn't find any serious drawback..
