What might happen if we put the Duke 200's gearing on the 390? More top speed?

I honestly wasnt trying anything funny in 1st&2nd gear but 3rd and 4rh are too much fun, dint really explore 5th and 6th at length due to the restrictions. need i mention, the tyres are awesome!

The guys who are getting their 390' s delivered, kindly let us know the size of the rear sprocket. Everyone else, start looking for a bigger rear sprocket, it would do a world of good to the 390 for sure.

Sort of agreed? I TOTALLY agree!
I quoted nomad's post above, and made one line in bold - that's exactly the negative effect of the gearing being too tall. Probably the low end isn't event that weak, but the tall gearing definitely makes it weaker. And it affects the top speed AS WELL. If someone thinks otherwise then just watch that D200 video above, perfect example of high revs pushing the top speed up, as opposed to school of thought that taller sprocket gives higher top speed (which is true as well, but I think higher revs affect the top speed much more).

I'm not an expert, but wouldn't bigger sprocket need a longer chain? And I think it might be difficult to get a sprocket of that size... Might be easier to find a smaller front sprocket? One tooth less on front should do a wonder to both pick up and top speed.

I agree, but you're talking about STOCK bikes. Stock D390 won't do more than 170 kmh, already tested by some reviews.
What I'm saying is that a shorter gearing would put D390 top speed into its peak power area (9k rpm), and would make it go even faster. Add to that a rev limiter pushed to higher revs, or even a modified ECU for more power - there's no way it will do less than 180 kmh. Easily.
Kiirus guys made their ECU for D200 available straight after D200 launch (with extra 3 hp), and I wouldn't be surprised if we have a ECU remap for D390 from them very soon. And D390 being a truly international bike - there'll be aftermarket performance options all over the world like mushrooms after rain! Good times ahead for bike lovers...

came back from a 200kms ride today, to panchgani around pune, no heating issues what so ever.

----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

i got 28kms per litre from my first full tank, total range 250kms before the "f" symbol came on with 45 kms as an estimate of the range left...so iam guessing on full 11 litlres, we should get close to 280kms...

i was pulling upto 6krpm in 3,4,5,6 gear and man the bike flies, the exhaust note sounds nice, did 130 while overtaking an sx4, otherwise was riding between 90-120 kms all day.

----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

Since i was riding in the rain the whole day, came back home, washed the bike, cleaned the radiator, oiled the chain/sprocket...total 350kms done.

What did you used for oiling the chain and sprocket? Whats the brand of engine oil and coolant coming with the bike as default?

Wow, already zipping around in your D390, you're lucky.
Please start an ownership thread and post more pics and your ride experiences there as this thread is already too many pages and your reviews will get buried in lot of questions of what and how of the D390. Does it collect too much grime on radiator during rains? How is the horn and light during night. Please start separate thread.

Don't think so, it might actually reduce the top speed. But it will read the top speed much quicker than before.

It would wheelie like crazy at a slight twist of throttle, would do 0-100 kmh in 4 sec, and would bang on hit the rev limiter in 6th at 135 kmh.

considering the pune rains and the 250kms riding in the rain, no not really, it does not collect too much grime, neither does it end up throwing too much stuff on your riding boots during the rain.

Called up BTM KTM. Still no test rides available. Will take a week I was told.

I think I will wait for the first lot to be delivered before I book mine.

Been searching for good loan schemes for Duke for a while now. The scheme offered by Vijaya Bank is good but requires way too many documents and is wasting my time. riot:- If possible try and stick to the Nationalized banks, nothing like those. With the Nationalized banks, you can have the liberty of repaying more than the actual EMI and get rid of the loan quickly.

FYI, when I was buying my car, I too felt like you ignored Nationalized banks and went for AXIS bank, now I want to close off my loan but buggers are asking me to pay a penalty, which I don't want to. Another friend of mine took loan from SBI for his car, the manager tells him to pay the EMI whenever he has money.

I tried to stick with Vijaya Bank but every day they ask me to get some new paper signed (visited there branch 5 times so far) . First they wanted me to open an account with them and i did. Then they asked me to open an account for my guarantor (my sis) and i did that too. Now they want me to attach a complete asset and liability statement declaring all my assets along with my Guarantors, attested by a CA and pay them Rs 2400 as inspection charge (1200 per account), Inspection will take approx 3 days. Additionally i need to add last 3yrs Form 16 of both mine and my guarantors along with 3yr bank statement, existing loan statment (my sis has a open car loan) and 6 months salary slip and what not. All this for a mere 1.6L loan.
So i decided to go for HDFC. hassle free loan and they said i can pre-close my loan without any additional charges after 1st year .

Ask them to give this in writing. I too was told the same thing, by the AXIS guys, that I can close it off whenever I want. When the HDFC guy comes to you for your signature on the loan document , make sure the repayment terms are mentioned in the document. These guys are very cunning, once you sign the document, they won't even pick your call.
