^^ absurd... rubbish..stupid....if i am a goldsmith and work in Tanishq factory, should i be paid a percentage of the net worth of jewelery i make...?? any labour, skilled or unskilled is paid an amount which is proportional to the effort he puts and not on the value of goods he produce.going by the same logic the team which designed pulsar should claim that ownership of BAL be transferred in their name... he he

More Unions offer support to Bajaj Chakan unit strike

      Alka Kshirsagar

Threaten mass stir if workers’ demands are not met

      Pune, July 5:

More workers’ Unions have jumped in to support the ongoing stir by workers at the Bajaj Auto Chakan plant and are threatening a mass stir across the entire industrial belt if the issue is not resolved.
Though the two-wheeler major has moved the labour court asking that the strike, now in its 11th day, be declared illegal, the Shramik Ekta Mahasangh (SEM), an umbrella organisation that claims it has 88 Unions under it, has offered support to the striking workers.
      Auto hub

In a letter to Pune Additional Labour Commissioner K.K. Hendre, the Mahasangh has asked the Department to intervene and also said that if the matter is not sorted out, the agitation may spread to other industries in the region. The area is an auto hub and home to several auto majors, in addition to a large auto component industry, and SEM claims it has on board Unions from companies such as General Motors, Mercedes Benz and Tata Yazaki, among others.
According to SEM President Kishore Dhokale, the further course of action will be decided after discussions with the Labour Commissioner and the Maharashtra Labour Minister.
“We are meeting with the Labour Commissioner on Saturday and want to find a solution through dialogue,” Dhokale said, adding that the SEM was supporting the Bajaj Union as several of the issues were common to other industries in the belt.
The bone of contention that sparked the stir at Bajaj Auto is the demand by the Vishwakalyan Kamgar Sanghatana (VKS), the Bajaj Auto workers’ Union, that its 900-odd members be allotted 500 shares each at the discounted price of Re 1 per share. This has been rejected by the company.
      Sales Impact

To make up for lost production, the company has shifted production of the Pulsar bike to its plant at Aurangabad, apart from making some bikes at Chakan. According to Bajaj Auto, 1,800 bikes are being produced at the two plants every day.
This is about half the normal daily output at the Chakan facility.
While the impact of the strike had been somewhat limited for the past few days, thanks to an inventory build-up with the dealers, continuation of the stir will soon begin to pinch, especially with the forthcoming festival season, during which bike sales are brisk, an analyst said.

Incredible India...i thought unions and strikes were only in Kerala and WB...maybe all the auto industry should shift to Gujarat...

Unions are everywhere and with good reason. For ages, industrialists have exploited labour- filled their coffers and kept these workers poor. While I won't know the nitty gritty of this case (Like their bonus structure and their payscale with respect to industry standard) so i won't pass any armchair judgement on the labourers from the comfort of my home.

By the way - even though #Feku Modi might paint a picture of industry and stability, there have been strikes. A few months back there was a strike in General Motors and according to the Economic Survey of 2010-11 -- Gujarat had the highest number of industrial lockouts and strikes in the country !

Could be true...although i dnt have much sympathy with unions since i'm in Kerala. Running a business here is a challenge. Even if you provide employees with everything they need union guys walk around the work premises and try to brainwash employees with their ideology. Ironically most of the employees dnt want their s!@#. Just that they are afraid of them. They have the support of certain political parties aswell. The financial loss for the employees, company and the nation is unbelievable. When they shut down a company these union guys celebrate. Just my bitter moaning..

Tell me about it. I am from Bengal and have seen one of the most industrialized states in the country systematically become decadent and backward. But experiences in a Bengal or in Kerala cannot be the reason for a rant in a factory in maharashtra without knowing the nitty gritty of the case

It was long back then in 1979, during the strike, police were called in and shot two workers at akurdi plant. No, it's not relevant now. All I wanted to say that it doesn't have to be only WB or Kerala.

So the strike has been declared as illegal? Looks like it since workers have asked cops to withdraw "False" cases. These guys are taking democracy into a whole new level. These guys should be sent to middle east for work...

I am sure not all the workers would want to go on strike. It is these Union leaders and Political parties that are creating the mess. I think the workers should realise, it is they who will suffer in the long run.

What happened in those mills in Mumbai, the Industrial Belt on Thane-Belapur Rd. Owners will simply shut down the operation and move else where.

Like Calcutta and Bombay, I also come from a city, where the local economy was destroyed due to excessive strikes of labour unions. All the mills closed down and all the workers were jobless. Unfortunately the workers suffer the most, due to the strikes in the long run. Mostly, the handiwork of politicians.

So now they will punish unsuspecting companies like Suzlon & Hyundai for no mistake of theirs? Wow, showing the power. Amazing justice this is.

I feel bad for Bajaj. They'll be ruined if they give away shares like that. The shares' market value will fall. Their profitability will be instantly lower, as they will be shown as well capitalized on paper, whereas in reality, they would be working on lesser capacity. The entire balance would be affected: margins, selling price and ultimately sales figures themselves.

If the workers would've demanded for limited amount of shares at 20% discount, that would've sounded reasonable.

One thing is for sure: Sir Rajiv Bajaj must've understood that being on the top, in a country like India, ain't exactly that easy.

This is what they have said -

“It is disappointing that the reasonable demands of the workers are not being responded to in this unit, especially since the company has done very well, but the employees share in value addition has gone down drastically from 31 per cent to 12 per cent.”

                              Brilliant!!!

Can you all imagine the financial loss that we, as a country are taking at this moment? With production = exports down, inflow will take a hard hit to the already lagging and crawling economy.

These anti-social and anti-national elements need to understand that the demands need to come at right time too. The stock demand is foolish and the union in context may well know it but to just rub it off in the face of the industry and to show off the power, they are even pursuing it. Shame on them...shame on the laws and shame on the people who support such terrorists.

Going by the same yardstick...we work in this huge company called India and get nothing in return. On the contrary, we part with a valuable size of money from our income to feed the management. Shouldn't we also go on a strike and ask for exemption of tax, more wages and pieces of land (in lieu of stocks)?
Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.
