    Piaggio to Launch Vespa 946 in India later this Year: xBhp News

    Piaggio the iconic Italian brand, is testing the Vespa 946, for road worthiness and will launch it by the 4th quarter of this fiscal.


    Another Vespa is in the pipeline which will be launched by the end of this year.

    The Vespa 946 is currently under test by Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) and will hopefully soon be passed and released in India.

    Ravi Chopra, CMD of Piaggio Vehicles Private Ltd -

    Piaggio has a manufacturing facility with a capacity of 150000 units in Baramati, Maharashtra, from where the luxury segment Vespas are being manufactured. Currently the company has the Vespa LX and Vespa VX being sold in the Indian market.

    Piaggio has been procuring 95% of its raw material from India itself, to help keep costs down. By doing this the company is being able to sell the Vespas in India at a third of the price that it is sold in Europe!

    Vespa VX, priced at Rs 71,900 (ex-showroom Hyderabad), powered by an advanced 4-stroke, 3 valve 125 cc engine, is capable of delivering a mileage of 60 kmpl. The Vespa LX has managed to sell 50000 units since the time it was launched in May 2012.

                Extarordinary design and very exclusive. This is purely for hardcore Vespa fans and is definitely an eye grabber.

                As far as what I have read in the news, this is coming via the CBU route plus will not be available off the shelves. If you are interested you wil need to order for one.

                It retails close to $10K in the US. Though the word is around that the expected price going to hover around 2L. With most indians trying to justify the pricing given the specs, this will again be for the Vespa loyalists.

                    Its very improbable that it'll be priced around 2L in India. Its an exclusive scooter after all. Not sure it will remain exclusive when priced as such. Since this will be targeted at enthusiasts and collectors, it should be priced accordingly!

                        2L is never going to be the launch price. Incase the bike has to retail at that cost it will never be launched in India.

                            Personally, I feel the machine is great to look. But somehow I lack the urge to own it (forget about the price et all). Maybe it is just my perspective.

                              This was expected to be a CBU hence it was supposed to be riced around the 1.5L mark...
