Both the bikes will be launched in 2014 and will be under 500cc. The expected bikes are faired versions of the Duke 200 and the Duke 390. Recently a Cup Series bike was launched by KTM specifically for racing, the production version of which is expected next year.

Currently, KTM does not have any faired bike, and only has the KTM Duke 200, with the KTM 390 being launched recently. But both these bikes are nakeds and with the new launches next year, KTM will be able to take on its faired competitors. With bikes as competitively prices as the Duke 390, Honda, Yamaha and Kawasaki will have something to worry about.

8000 units of the Duke 200 have been sold, with around 25000 units being exported.

Amit Nandi, Vice-President of Bajaj Probiking -

"Bajaj-KTM will launch two variants of the RC brand of 'faired' racing bikes in the calendar year 2014 under the sub-500 cc category,"

Start, mid, end - nothing has been clear so far, IIRC no news mentioned the dates or time of the year.

re: KTM RC Series Confirmed: xBhp News

Its hard to logically comment on whether RC series would be better than Duke in all/ most matters or not. Its just that "we" expect it to be better, that's it.
Anyways, the point is that in this country you would love a fast bike that you can park anywhere without being noticed. This is one of the reasons for preference of naked bikes over faired ones.

Despite this good (but slightly old now) news, Duke will have its takers I believe. First come advantage being one, and cost advantage being another reason. Yes, the Duke will remain cheaper than the RC series.

But seriously, news are coming from KTM one after the another! It seems they're running a news factory. RC series, 125, 200 & 390 getting ABS, then on-off road & other versions of these bikes too. Then a Pulsar based on the Duke 390.
They actually appear more aggressive than Honda now, although they are in lesser & niche segments.

Will the R series and Duke bikes share the same engine?

I am taking a guess that the RC series would use the same engine as duke but with different tuning.. for better performance.. like how the pulsar series and avenger series.. purely my guess.. not sure though.. or probably the detuned version of their race bikes

Then I guess the first one would be a RC 250 which Bajaj promised to launch in the first quarter of the year and later on we'll be getting the RC 390. . .

                          Cheers!!!

RC 125 | 200 | 390 are confirmed. [KTM CEO Stephan Peirer had said this long back]
According to DUKE Engine Development Head, there will be a model slotted between 200 & 390. My guess would be a 250.
Also, KTM will launch a Duke below 200 cc to cater to the price sensitive Indian market & garner more sales & in turn, lead to more brand permeation among the general public.

                            The future is orange!!!
