GREATER NOIDA: A biker riding on the wrong side sustained critical injuries on Sunday afternoon when his superbike got crushed under the wheels of a Maruti Swift car on Yamuna Expressway. The accident took place when he was on his way to pick up a friend from Pari Chowk in Greater Noida.

"The biker was on the wrong side. Both the vehicles were speeding. The car's driver, on seeing speeding motorbike, lost control. The bike got crushed in a head-on collision with the car," a senior police official said.

The impact of the collision was so high that the biker, identified as Hemant Kumar, a native of Jhandewalan in Delhi, had to be immediately rushed to a private hospital, where his condition is said to be critical.

According to police, the biker had participated in a biking event in Buddh International Circuit. He had left BIC around 1pm to pick a friend up from Pari Chowk. Police said the expressway developer has built ramps to connect service roads to the expressway.

"The biker had taken ramp number 11, which connects the expressway to the service lane. He was supposed to join the expressway. The car meanwhile, was on its way to the service lane," the official said, adding, the car's driver has been identified as Harsh, a resident of Mehrauli in Delhi.

Local residents and other bikers gathered at the accident spot. Some of the victim's friends and relatives also reached the scene. Police have detained the car driver. "We are investigating the case from all angles," the official said

    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

    THE END

Very sad news. And at the same time, again highlights the importance of following basic rules while riding.
Hope Mr. Hemant Kumar gets well soon.

I have myself been foolish once and paid the price. This was around an year back when I was riding on the wrong side. Hit a biker, fortunately I was doing around 20-25 but did end up denting his bike's tank and my screwing some of my bike too. had to pay the guy damages.
That was the first and last time I rode on the wrong side.
          Hope this guys recovers.

Can somebody explain the accident to me, service lane, expressway etc. are foreign works to me as the highways here are narrow 2 lane ones. I'm sorry, I am having a hard time picturing the accident, which helps a lot to avoid such instances.

            Was the guy an xBhpian?

Expressway has service lanes a.k.a if you want to take a turn out or get in from other roads you have to take the service road which then runs parallel to the expressway and makes you join the main route .
Its done to avoid the slower turning or joining in vehicles with the faster ones in the main route .

I don't know the exact road but still service roads in most places especially inside town where a NH runs are two way.
May be if its like NICE road then the biker is at fault but still basic human courtesy by the car guy might saved him:banghead:

Is it ok if a picture of the accident is shared? From the pic it looks like the car T-boned the bike.

                  Re: Rider Crashes Head-on

I'm not surprised at all, this kind of stupid accidents are quite common. However, I don't understand why he was taking such a risk when he was riding a superbike. Riding on wrong side is not safe and idiotic when it is a ramp meant to connect an expressway, since the road curves and one cannot notice things until they are close.

was it the z800 ??? saw pics of a z800 crushed under a swift yesterday posted on FB...

but seriously.. the guy went to BIC. where first and foremost they give safety lessons. when you buy a super bike again more safety lessons and when you get a license again more and more safety lessons. and still someone takes a SUPERBIKE that too wrong side of road on " YAMUNA EXPRESSWAY" .. seriously wrong side on a expressway ??... wish him speedy recovery. on the contrary i am surprised he is still alive...

Can someone please share the pic? Was it around a corner? If not, looks like a case of car driver purposefully veering towards the motorcyclist as he was coming from the wrong side. Just to "teach" him a lesson. I could be wrong but a picture could help understand what happened.

Guys, I have the photo but this xbhp connect isn't uploading the photo, as soon as the photo uploads, it just vanishes.in the pic, rear part of z is grilled below the front of swift.
You can buy a million ₹ bike in a instant , but road manners tAke some time, biker was going in wrong way, car driver cannot be blamed as told by witnesses around the incident spot.

Absolutely right.. this was the real reason..or maybe the Superbike guy wanted to feel Dhoom movie like rush..

I sense sarcasm. However, in this I didnt come across correctly so its justified. The motorcyclist was certainly in the wrong here, I am quite clear in that. However, a head on collision doesnt make sense as the first reaction of the motorcyclist would be a survival reaction and hence I would have thought a head-on collision is unlikely in a straight. That is why a photo if its available can help understand what really happened.

I was under the impression that the service lanes were always two-way rather than one way? Is the traffic on service lanes meant to go in the same direction of that on the main highways?
Appreciate if someone can throw some light on it.
