    Re: Rider Crashes Head-on

Yamuna Expressway is an accident prone road. Even if you follow the rules you are prone to meet with an accident. Wondering why this guy took such a risk. Hope he recovers soon..

Appreciate if someone can throw some light on it.
It meant to go only on the same way as main highway, But people are using service lane for both way and there is no information boards given whether it is two way or one way

Yamuna Expressway service lane is also for go on the same way as main highway, but people use it as both way lane road.

as of a priliminary report they stated that both vehicles were in good speed and car guy lost control seeing a speeding motorcycle from other direction.
i saw the same pics of the z800 on FB crushed inside the grill however it does not look like an accident at high speed. just the rear is under the bumped of the swift and raditor leaked coolant...

Seeing the accident scene it doesn't look like a high speed one. Not much damage to either vehicle since Swift's build quality is very flimsy (no offense to owners, I ride it everyday).

Now the million dollar question - Was the rider well-geared?

                    Re: Rider Crashes Head-on

Well, there were a lot of people who saw the accident happening and their version of story is different from what is printed in news papers. As per the 'eyewitnesses', the Z1000 rider was exiting the yamuna expressway and was parked on the exit loop right after the toll gate. Unfortunately, he was parked on the outside lane of the loop. And the car occupants (claimed to be underage, learning DL owners) came a bit too fast on the loop, couldn't take the turn properly, ran wide and hit the stationary z1000. The rider was not at all hurt badly, he had some injury to his left (?) hand only.

ha. That explains why the car driver was detained. But why does every article say the bike rider was on the wrong side ?

This is truly sad to hear. Why do media give such a hype as if the biker is at fault.

Wow reading this brought back memories of my own accident.
Motorcycle riders especially those riding fast bikes must always remember in case of an accident the price we pay for our mistakes and for others is always greater. We are made of flesh and sit exposed on two wheels and hence face greater risk of injury when accidents occur. My dad always told me that while riding I must always think ten times before I make a move. Hope for a speedy recovery for the unfortunate rider.

                              Re: Rider Crashes Head-on

Truly sad news indeed. From my experience and I do a fair bit of riding on my Ninja, I wish to share with you some of the riding discipline that is sacrosanct to me:

                              1) We do not have the skill set of Rossi so allow for ample time for yourself to react and the bike to avoid mishaps. This is especially important whilst riding roads that you do not know like the back-of-your-hand. The road is not a race track.

                              2) Always slow down when crossing through the numerous towns and villages that dot our highways. Keep your headlight on as it aids in visibility to oncoming pedestrians and vehicles. Remember most vehicles may even see powerful bikes in the distance but cannot fathom the speed at which it can travel while compared to regular commuter bikes, so they invariably commit to taking that slow U-turn on the highway which rapidly emerges as an obstacle to you (Rickshaws and smaller capacity bikes are famous to do this).

                              3) When passing through these small towns and villages one tends to suddenly be accompanied by the road-side Motogp romeos that want to race - avoid this at all costs! More often than not, they back off once the town section is over and the open highway beckons. Always keep the throttle down in the city because the distractions and obstacles are multi-fold to towns.

                              4) Respect road signs - they have been put there for a reason.

                              5) Never ride without full riding gear - even if out for a quick spin in the city - the bear minimum should be a riding jacket, gloves (hands usually are the point of first impact in case you toss), and a helmet.

                              6) Pull over if your concentration levels are less than 100%.

                              7) Never drink and ride period!

                              8) A little prayer asking "Him" to keep you safe and your wits about you before you mount your bike usually is a sound practise.

I assure you a safe ride and the respect which you will earn from others should you follow the above discipline each time you ride. Remember riding is about enjoying oneself, coming home safe to your family and the opportunity to ride again and again.
