From the pic it is a CBS with drum at rear.Originally posted by alchemist View PostWill the CBS variant have discs at the rear? Or drum? ( I am not sure if CBS works with drum brakes)
Yes, the website also says rear is Drum 130mm (CBS)!
It looks way better than in those spyshots.

Yes, the bike is better than trigger for sure. But still, I feel Honda has played a bit conservatively. For one, they have given a full Heel and Toe shifter, and second, that the rear tire is just 110/80-17.

Power figures are not upto the mark as it is only a shade powerful than trigger.sigpic

Re: Honda CB Unicorn 163cc Launched at Rs 69350 - Live Updates!
Given that the Unicorn was meant to target the middle aged working class who look for a basic office commuter, i don't think having fat tyres would do much benefit in terms of cost, maintenance and fuel efficiency.
Also explains why there is the lack of rear disc since brake pad replacements are seen as nuisance by old people who prefer to not spend more money by adjusting/replacing them.
The engine requirement was probably mid-range torque for better city ride-ability instead of hunting for peak power at higher rpms like sport bikes do.
Digging that Honda "H" brake light and the CX-01 inspired tank shroud btw. Looks better in blackLast edited by Nithesh; 12-18-2014, 06:01 PM.Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

Suzuki did the same with the Gixxer and now Honda doing the same! It looks pretty decent with all colors except the white colored one where it spoils the look of the bike.Originally posted by animeher View PostThe golden patch behind the engine really sticks out in all the colours. On most bikes it is black or silver in colour, seeing it in golden for the first time, I think.

With all the hype they gave, I thought it would be atleast 15 BHP.
But I strongly suspect, the engine is capable of giving much more being a 163 cc. These people have tuned it down to enhance mileage.Owns a baby Gixxer starting Jan '15

Re: Honda CB Unicorn 160 Launched at Rs 69350/-
The engine looks like the mill on the Honda twister only bigger. Never liked the starter placement on the twister and this seems the same.
Overall the bike looks great but in terms of performance its lacking.
Their target demographic was 25-35 year old people. These aren't old people, they're just not kids. The power should have been a bit higher like 16-17bhp and 15nm torque. I mean their target demographic comprises of people who not only commute but also do highway and weekend runs, these are people who buy bikes like duke 390, karizma, and p220 and for them the bike though comfortable, will be quite insufficiently powered. The old reliable mill is also gone and it was the one with true potential.
For me this bike is a downgrade.

Got to partially agree with you! Firstly, not all of them who would buy this bike are interested/already own a bigger capacity bike. Having said that, an extra HP or two wouldn't have hurt to have on this. With that, it would have made a good budget city bike and highway tourer. Even though this is a new 160 mill, I don't think it is going to be unreliable. We are talking about Honda here.Originally posted by Balgi View PostThe engine looks like the mill on the Honda twister only bigger. Re: Honda CB Unicorn 163cc Launched at Rs 69350 - Live Updates!
True that, what most people don't realize is that the peak power doesn't mean anything in our traffic conditions, it is the torque in the low to mid that matters. I am very impressed, this produces almost 75% of the CBR250's torque at a lower rpm which means that it should be able to keep up at least till 50-60 kmph.Originally posted by Nithesh View PostThe engine requirement was probably mid-range torque for better city ride-ability instead of hunting for peak power at higher rpms like sport bikes do.

Re: Honda CB Unicorn 163cc Launched at Rs 69350 - Live Updates!
I was expecting 15.5bhp but I guess honda has kept 1bhp for future facelift or update like they did in the case of trigger which was launched with 14bhp but now it is updated with 14.35bhp. Overall it is a good option for those who are looking for a good 150cc commuter as I guess it will carry 2 persons with ease otherwise most of the bikes in 150cc segment struggles to pull properly like they do with single rider. Almost 2nm of torque will play a good role in overall performance. As far as top speed is concerned, claimed top speed for trigger is 104 and for uni160 it is 106.Last edited by Naveen1985; 12-18-2014, 09:43 PM.sigpic
