Suzuki Motorcycle India Ltd (SMIL) plans to launch its naked street bike, the GW250 (also called Inazuma 250), in January 2014. The company plans to bring the 248cc, twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled, four-stroke motorcycle through the completely-knocked-down (CKD) route and will be assembled at SMILs Gurgaon plant.

It is expected to further spice up the 250cc segment, which already has established motorcycles such as the Honda CBR250R, KTM 200 Duke, Kawasaki Ninja 300 and others. The success of the Suzuki GW250 though will crucially depend on its pricing in India. Interestingly, the segment is also set to see completely localised additions soon in the form of a faired-in Pulsar 200NS and the 300cc Mahindra Mojo, which is believed to be in its final phases of validation process.

Meanwhile, the company is also gearing up to ready at least one new product for its scooter as well as its commuter bike portfolio. SMILs current scooter portfolio includes the Access 125 and Swish 125, while the company sells one commuter motorcycle in each 110cc (Hayate), 125cc (Slingshot) and 150cc (GS150R) categories.

Speaking exclusively to Autocar Professional, Atul Gupta, executive vice-president, SMIL, confirmed that we are going to launch the 250cc motorcycle next month (January 2014) and new products to expand our current portfolio in the upcoming Auto Expo 2014. We are equally focussing on the scooters and the motorcycles.

Gupta, however, did not disclose the specifics of the upcoming products. On clear priorities, he added that we are absent in almost 60 percent of the existing markets domestically, so we are focussing on the dealership expansion. We are also expanding our production capacity by nearly 25 percent at our Gurgaon facility as we want to be ready while entering new territories.

The companys Gurgaon facility has a current yearly installed capacity of 5,00,000 units. While, as per SIAM data, SMIL has sold a total of 2,57,214 units between April-November 2013 (down by 8.64 percent over April-November 2012), Gupta is confident that the companys annual sales for FY2013-14 will touch the 4,50,000 unit mark.

The bike looks much better in red than the black. But those dated 3 spoke alloys need to be replaced with contemporary ones. Other wise the looks subastantial(big) and good.

Those alloys look good to me. The worst pain-area is the headlamp. I'd prefer a simple, round headlamp or a better-looking cowl. Oh, while cribbing, I might as well add the taillamps - current taillamp mimics a Hayate/Slingshot. The GS150's taillamp unit looks way better. Best part of the Inauzma (IMO) - it's analog-digital instrument cluster which is one of the most beautiful ones seen on a 250!

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

Indeed I am falling in love with the speedo console.. and the bike looks pretty good to me. Like said, the head lamps look a little awkward.. lets wait and see how the bike is gonna look in flesh suzuki.. I am waiting..

Internationally (specifically, the US), the Suzuki is priced at $3999 against the $4699 for the CBR250R ABS. Very rough calculations would reveal a price of appx 1.5 Lacs.

Anything below 1.3L would make it a winner otherwise people would still prefer cbr over this one..

Any idea whether it is being manufactured in India? If yes. The possibilities of it being as low as 1.3 is high..
