  • Vulcan S, Z250SL and ZX-6R en route to India !!!!

Single cylinder Z250SL, which is powered by a 249cc, four valve, single-cylinder, fuel-injected DOHC motor that pumps out 27.6bhp at 9,700rpm and 22.5Nm of torque at 8,200rpm. Compared to the twin-cylinder Z250, this quarter liter bike looks more aggressive, minimal and could be priced around the Rs 2 lakh mark. Expect this machine to be launched sometime in Mid-2015 once it comes here in a CKD format.

    Topic Approved.

While Er250n did help in keeping the price down, a twin is a twin, after all. So, a Z250SL will help keep the prices down by a good margin, being a single. And its a Kawasaki!

ZX6R has a good fan following, even if not actual potential buyers. Being 636cc, it will require homologation. I'm not sure whether the actual buyers would be enough to justify the decision...

But the Detun... err... Daytona might actually use a good competitor. And from what I understand, Kawasaki might actually get it here without any detuning.
So, the racers could benefit tremendously, as long as the extra 37cc's don't pose a barrier to a competition.

    Brief History of the ZX6R:
For around 4 years, ZX6R was sold in two models, ZX 6RR (599cc) for pure racing and ZX 6R (636cc) for little extra thrill and road fun.
Later, in 2007, it became one: ZX6R with 599cc.

Presently, Kawasaki's 636cc model has received changes over time, and its not the same engine seen in the early days. 636cc is expected to be marginally better for the road, although putting it in a strange position for professional racing, where categories are being followed.
Not that it will matter much in India.

Vulcan is a proper cruiser, which could come face to face with Street 750.

The big Kawasakis come as CBUs from Japan (H2, ZX-10R, ZX-14R, Z1000, Ninja 1000 and Versys 1000)
Smaller ones come as CKDs from Thailand (Ninja 300, Ninja 650, ER-6N and Z800) and SKD (Z250)

Now Thailand has these products on sale: Kawasaki Thailand
So Z250SL (which is sold only in ABS variant there) and the Vulcan cruiser are easy to get as CKDs from there.

However, Thailand does not get the ZX-6R, which may result in it being brought here as a CBU from Japan/elsewhere.
The Versys 650 from Thailand is one remaining (and rather practical) bike that is yet to come here.

^^^ Good logic. I wonder what stops Kawasaki to bring Z300 here. It maybe because it will be too close in price with N300.

Vulcan is an interesting entry with almost no competition. The reliable 650 engine in a cruiser shape will surely be a hit.

My guess is Z250SL will be priced 2.5L ex showroom, as it is not required or expected from Kawasaki to get prices at CBR250 levels.

I hope someday Versys 650 gets launched here in good price

The two seater Vulcan S is a thing of beauty

A small correction, Z800 is a CBU from Thailand i guess...

Yes you are correct the Z800 is CBU.
Which brings me to the question: Is there any CBU available in India below 800 cc?

You cannot bring a bike below 800cc as CBU unit. The zx6r can only be brought inside India as CKD unit.

Yes, in which case the Autocar statement of the Zx-6r being brought in as a CBU will not hold valid. I was hoping there was some way out though...

The Vulcan is bloody good looking! A smaller capacity Vulcan(250-300cc) and I'm game.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

Actually Payeng, it was also a CKD as shown in this data:

That is why I am still searching for some exception...

I cant believe you write that blog, and still dont know that
                              a) the inazuma was a CKD
                              b) that sub 800cc bikes cannot be imported as CBU.
