Avenger apart from the engine and switches is basically the kawasaki eliminator.

Are you really sure? Can you justify the above info by a source?
What do you have to say about the beautiful BMW F650GS? (Although it was homologated years ago).


Because if you ask me...
I have only one answer:- All bikes are importable by CBU if you're ready to pay their duty, but if you must launch them then homologation is necessary.


ONLY an exception was added in 2007 under which homologation was not necessary, for bikes above 800cc imported as CBU. Some other documents like Type Certification, Euro pollution certificate, Certificate of Origin, etc. was required to be presented.


This was done for Harley Davidson, but Yamaha took advantage of it first.


Import and Homologation are different things. Import is handled by Customs & Government. Homologation is handled by ARAI, which is under Government too.


There are many rumors spreading over internet, including:
a. no CBU imports below 600cc (this was said by a guy, who claims Kawasaki told him this. Indian Custom doesn't even recognize 600cc as a category. Japs created this category not us. For us, its in 500-800cc slab.)
b. no imports at all below 800cc (as false as anything can be)
c. If its below 800cc, the bike can be imported only as a CKD bike. (again, what to say? Where is this from? I need the source link.)

I think the problem is with Xbhp site, it is duplicating the posts when we use "reply with quote" option,and its seen in all threads. We have to edit after we post to remove the repeat comment.

^^^ It's not a problem. 'Reply with quote' inherently quotes all images and text in original post. It's the responsibility of the poster to edit all the irrelevant part and keep only the relevant bits.

I have no suggestions for improvement of xbhp, I only replied to him regarding the quoting post part. It works perfectly fine on desktop.

Back to topic. Vulcan S is globally a single seater, with second seat as an accessory. It will be interesting to see how it is offered here.

Sorry for late reply. I was on BIC and in Noida for the past few days.
I can't remove the images justifiably, as I don't feel anything wrong in them as per Xbhp rules. Its on topic and within rules.
However, seeing the large number of images, I edited the post so that the images now appear as openable links.

I'm asking, where is it written in the law, that it is impossible for the manufacturer's local representative, to launch an "under 800cc" bike as CBU, into the country?

In fact, on closely reading it, the above link only confirms my own belief. Read this part carefully:-

"" Example is Kawasaki being partner of Bajaj uses Bajaj's facility to assemble the Ninja 650R, which they import through CKD (CKD imposed lesser import duty). This way they save a lot as they have to pay lesser import duty since they are not importing the bike as a unit or CBU, "

Focus on the second sentence.
So basically, importing as CKD is not a compulsion of the law.
It is just opportunity cost benefit to the manufacturers, that's making them launch under 600cc imported bikes as CKDs.

Being a lecturer for Export Import Documentation, Why should I have a doubt in the first place?

Bro, don't you think that if CBU imports were banned for under 800cc motorcycles (or 600 or whatever number), I would've told you guys straightaway?
Why would I mis-inform or hide info from you guys?

CBUs are not banned, even for below 800cc, simple as that. With all due respect to every Xbhp member, I don't want wrong info to be spread.

As per the rules laid down the by Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, New Delhi on 13th April, 2007:
The government of India has given permission to import motorcycles of engine capacity 800cc or above, with following conditions:

No offence bro, but, this just states that 800cc or above can be imported (CBU) without homologation. Can't manufacturers import 600cc bikes as CBU and homologate it?
