The language is slightly mis-framed I think. This enactment does not remove the earlier provisions of the law, as reference to earlier enactments and laws, is not specifically stated.
If under 800cc are imported, they are imported under some other section of the law. That's why they call them CBU or CKD "route".

For example, you can still import above 800cc motorcycles without these conditions. Example: You can have a CKD import. If I'm not wrong, Hayabusa is soon going to be CKD.


Although, you're right. The language part, "The government of India has given permission to import...", is somewhat misleading I think...

Second link is not clear info to me, except for recognized categories which I knew all along.

The first link, I think, is old or is giving wrong information.
Under Transfer of Residence, its written that all motorcycles from 75-500cc's are allowed. While in contradiction, this same category is written under banned vehicles too. And under new vehicles heading, there's no mention of any such cc limit.
Plus, I know for sure that TR does allow import of 1000cc bikes too.

But maybe there is a ban on 50-500cc imported motorcycles for protectionism reasons. I don't know much because I never took interest in this category. I would still love to have more info on this topic.

Guys, could anyone point out a section of an act under the Indian law? That would be reliable & searchable.

I think there's a chance of a problem with implementation of the law. Like maybe, customs might not allow few kind of imports, on their own authority, although law might not prohibit it.

Ok so Autocar Professional says that due to the FTA with Thailand, the duties on CBUs are ONLY 14 percent.

Therefore all manufacturers who are importing from Thailand are making a megaton of profits by pricing at around triple of the import cost.
