So a transfer price of 5,65,400 is currently incurring a 60% duty which brings us to a total of 9,04,640. Suzuki then adds its margins etc. and sells it for 16 Lakh ex-showroom Delhi.

Some time later Suzuki starts CKD ops for this bike, which means 30% duty, thereby getting us to a total of 7,35,020.

That is a difference of only 1.7 lakhs. And let us further assume that Suzuki reduces its margins per bike as well (they have a ready-made assembly line, created for the Inazuma).
With all this, a cut of 2-3 lakhs looks realistic, 4 seems far-fetched and 5 seems flat-out impossible.

I would love to be proven wrong though.

Thats only the engine. The chasis has to be imported too.

That is the Engine Number you are looking at. Next to it you will find the Frame/chassis number too. The color of the bike is at the end.
Currently all big Suzukis are CBUs and this is how they show up in import data.

Now that's unexpected! India as a country is so starved, any small speculation becomes a news.
Nevertheless, wishing some day this news becomes a reality.

Is it possible to import these bike locally through a registerd importer and pay for applicable duty and avoid the manufacturer's margin ?

5 Lakh minimum if they manufacture everything here in India.

via CKD route expect min 8 Lakh.

Or could it be that Suzuki has surplus inventory of the 2015 Busa, India would be good enough place for dumping before they have the completely overhauled 2016 Busa (read 2015 R1 and 2015 R1 difference), the current gen is more or less the same bike from K1 model year with reasonably incremental updates. If I had 16 Lakhs I would surely hold onto for the 2016 model year.

Suzuki will ofcourse deny the news till the existing stock are cleared.
Once its cleared, then we will see.

It would more sense, IMHO, to make the B-King here.

CKD route ain't bad at all. The Ninja 650 is doing it just fine.

Why would Suzuki go CKD on a flagship model? Makes no sense. Don't think any of the Japanese manufacturer would go CKD on a flagship supersport/litre/hyperbike. And even if they did, the price won't drop like that. This is a hoax for sure.

                                Topic Approved.

                                Fantastic news indeed!

Imported bikes do give more peace of mind to the owner, but yeah, if the price is cut by a few lacs overall, it may turn out to be a great news, provided they maintain the quality. But I don't think that will be a problem.

Considering that bikes above a certain price sell in just a few hundreds per year, its worth appreciating Suzuki for this effort they took. Let's wait to see what price they will put on it.
However, I hope they bring a few selected bikes in the 600-1000cc range, later on, via the CKD scheme. Something that actually influences a good portion of bikers.
