Thane fire brigade department has proposed customized Royal Enfield motorcycle in their fleet which can be used during fire fighting operations.
Around six motorcycles will be bought and fitted with portable water mist and foam tenders that are usually used while dealing with minor fires in narrow lanes and bylanes. The cost of each motorcycle is pegged at Rs 5. 87 lakh. There shall be an additional cost of Rs 35.23 lakh to customize it and another Rs 99,924 will go for the insurance.

"The bikes will help to strengthen the fire fighting machinery and speed up rescue operations. There are several narrow lanes in the city. During a blaze it is difficult for conventional fire engines or water tenders to navigate through crowded lanes. These bikes, on the other hand, can easily reach such areas on time and reduce the damage. Even the lane dedicated for buses near the railway station, is not enough for a fire tender to pass under it. Hence, in these cases such motorcycles would of a great use."
