Don't know why some people here are expecting refreshed cbr 150 from honda. Please stop expecting from honda in 1 lac+ category as they have already shown their refreshed/stickered cbrs

Re: Yamaha YZF R15-S Launched at Rs. 1.14 Lakh

At last the the Yamaha India website has updated their portfolio in their official webpage with the description of R15-S.It is having a price premium of INR 500 over V2.0. But the strange thing is that, as opposed to the media reports we got so far, in the official website, the engine specs are not same for R15-S & V2.0 and the other specifications that was shared in media about various things like seat height, wheelbase are also different from the earlier reports(wheelbase and seat height is not lowered as opposed to reports in few websites) . Can anyone please provide exact information about these & please let me know if the rider posture is also more comfortable or not?
Please checkout the specs of both the versions-

Lol, they've relaunched the v1 with v2 swing arm, tyres, gearing, ecu and rear brake!
Bar the gearing and ecu, I had launched this two years ago.

Re: Yamaha YZF R15-S Launched at Rs. 1.14 Lakh

I was looking for a lightweight nimble and fast bike to use alongside my RE Thunderbird 350. At times I hate hauling the 193 KGs of metal out of garage, or push thru' narrow parking slots. The R15S is just the answer as I often have pillion. However it's engiiine is detuned and producing 0.4 PS and 0.4 Nm less power and torque. I am not sure how this or the 2 KG less weight will change the real life riding experience compared to the V2, but I tend to believe it will not be a compromise in real riding situation though there is a difference on paper. The salesmen at Yamaha show room mentioned that this is coming with the 'Blue Core' technology as is present in other bikes of Yamaha, but I do have my doubts as the 'Blue Core' badge is not to be found anywhere on the body as is on F16 V2. The salesperson claimed that I can expect marginally better mileage compared to the V2. However these are only words and unless we hear the experience from a user or read a proper test report this could not be verified. Surprisingly no automobile magazines or websites have yet conducted a road test on this. A proper comparison with V2 is the need of the day for many prospective buyers. If there is any R15S owner out there requesting him / her to share the experience.

Yes, R15 is light, but it will take its own royal space, don't make a mistake on this. Would be better than the 350 though.
From what I understand, the entire setup of R15s and R15 version 2.0 is the same except for Front Fairing and the Rear portion, including mudguard which are directly from the now retired R15 v1.

The official website quotes 12.2 KW for R15s, which is around 16.6PS. If its not a typing mistake and they actually detuned it, I believe it could be for the low end torque. Peak torque values are the same though, 15 NM.
Blue core is just a blue spark in the spark plug. Yamaha doesn't claim it. The salesman is probably wrong/ confused.

Re: Yamaha YZF R15-S Launched at Rs. 1.14 Lakh

'Blue Core" is essentially Yamaha's answer to Honda's "HET" and Suzuki's "SEP". What I understood that this means tweaking of the engine / carburetor / ECU to ensure more efficient combustion of the fuel to extract bit more mileage. Since I am not a technical person, I am actually unable to fathom how much technology is going behind this to make engines more efficient, or is this just a marketing hype. However I also own an Activa 125 with the HET engine and with a easy hand on the throttle, the best I could extract in normal city riding is about 54kmpl measured on a tankful to tankful basis. This I believe is pretty good and no older generation activa 125 owners have experienced such mileage.

I am keeping my fingers crossed hoping that the drop of 0.4PS will not be a compromise in day to day riding and I may expect a better & flatter torque spread from relatively low rpms.

However this requires a comparative study of the power & torque curve of the V2 and 'S'. This unfortunately I could not find anywhere. I am hoping that some leading automotive magazines or even XBHP guys will do a complete testing on this machine and publish the findings.

However this is more from the academic perspective and I think this machine will not disappoint me so long I restrict my level of expectation at par the machine is capable of delivering. With this hope and the fact that this one is a proven performer, I will be putting in my money. Lets see.

Damn even I am confuse now whether to go for R15s or Gixxer SF. Somebody help me with this dilemma. I am guy about 5'10'' weighing about 75 kgs. Most of my use would include daily ride to office which would be less than 50 km and occasional weekend morning ride.

Both are good bikes. But R15 has an upper hand. Test ride both with and without pillion and decide.

Hi all, this is my first post in xbhp .

Currently I have Pulsar 150 DTS-i 2005 model, don't know which UG it is, everything is good with it, mileage is also 45-50 Km/l. Now after 10 years riding it, I am looking for an upgrade due to it's old age. Is this bike that good regarding acceleration, handling (curving through in traffic jams) and mileage (in city)? Sorry to ask it here but currently no "proud owner" did any review on this particular bike...

Planning it to buy on 9th this month.

                            Hey Rajarshi,
You most probably have the UG2 model, which is more torquey at lower rpms, than the Pulsar UG3 or UG4 or even the R15 for that matter.

It means, you would require more gearshifts to stay in the power zone, in the city specially, when you use the R15. Its not a big issue though, it just requires getting used to.

You might get approx the same mileage but with a mix of city and highway riding. In city, mileage will probably go down to approx 35-45 or so, not below it usually.

Acceleration is good, but you must touch high rpms for the same.
Handling is great, but you might take some time getting used to it, because a Pulsar seems more agile and R15 is more "controllable", if I may use the term. One more thing to note is that the riding position of R15s will be more towards "racy", compared to your Pulsar. This is enjoyable in its own way though, its all a matter of getting used to...

Just remember there is a marked price difference between the two. If your usage is mostly commuting to office and city rides Gixxer makes more sense.. but after buying and selling almost 14 bikes and scooters in a span on 25 years I have realized that it is always a fierce battle between head and heart but in the end most often the heart wins. Logic & Practicality goes out of window... Cheers wishing you a very happy Diwali on your new bike... whatever is it,,,
