  • Separate License for High Capacity bikes on the way

A Recent report from Deccan Herald indicates that the Indian Road Transport Ministry is planning to introduce a separate license for motorcycles with a cubic capacity of over 500cc, somewhat similar to the A1 and A2 licensing system in Europe.

Should we perform stunts to get the super license? Wondering what will be the test!?

Haha..Wish it was that challenging . Must be similar to what one goes through in EU nations or even US may be to get one. You might have to take a session and pass your exams may be. But again, its finally ends up how our beloved RTO personnel acts, he who has more money shall be given the ticket !!! He who has influence need not be present either !!!

They must issue different license for bike with dual disk brake,or with mono suspension etc..I do not see any logic behind this move in a country where 99% of DL holder are not fit for even learner's license

Everyone knows this is a subjective topic. But, there are things which we can't change or may be we wont live long enough to see the change.

Well this is a welcome move. But I really wish it serves the purpose of keeping idiots away from superbikes. Else this is just extra money for the RTO.

The sessions should be tough and results recorded in the system right away. Else it will just be Bigger bike = Richer client = More bribe.

Why not just implement current rules before making new ones.

I dont think the current rules applies for higher capacity bikes. Any rich guy whose age is > 18 can afford a SBK when he procures his "Valid" driving/riding license. There is no restrictions for the CC that one can own for such license.

So, this rule is definitely a welcome one unless taken in a straight way and not going between the woods.

Re: Separate License for High Capacity bikes on the way

It would make sense in a way that rich teenagers don't hop onto a zx14 or h2 at after riding small sport bikes from a young age, but for guys like us who have to shell out twice the price of the developed world markets to own a SBK this is going to be just another "tax" that the RTO's will make you cough up to get it done.

On the flipside, the insurance companies will use this to create a new insurance group and charge premium over existing prices like they do in the other parts of the world.

It just makes the ownership of an SBK that much more expensive and we already suffer enough that we have the worst roads to ride them on.

Before bringing up a license change, It would have been better if they bothered fixing up all the roads to international standards because most accidents are caused by unscientific road constructions(including highways) and non existing tarmac on highways filled with potholes. Look at KA, highest road tax yet the worst roads in the country outside its capital and inside too.

Edit: On a second note, given that most RTOs have these agents outside who take bribes to get you any license, I don't see this license structure working in India. A rich kid's parents won't mind coughing up a few thousands to get him a Busa for his 18th b'day(unless there's an age restriction like they have in Europe which also can be bypassed by the rich easily)

It would be sensible if they put on a age/experience restriction for sbks. If not it's just gonna be corruption getting better at RTOs. An other way to earn money for the RTO morons.

Oh, i meant implement rules like fines for breaking traffic rules and stricter actions for everyone who breaks these laws, some rich guy shouldn't get away with breaking the law, this however is a welcome move. But what use is that if like the current situation this too can be bypassed by bribing or via influence
