Honda launched the 163cc CB Unicorn in Delhi today. The bike claims to deliver the best in class mileage of 62 kmpl. The engine is completely new with HET (Honda Eco Technology) and also has best in class torque. The bike has a new design and looks good though not something that stands out. It is sober as you would expect from a 160cc premium commuter. The company has targeted the 25-35 year age group with the new Unicorn.
The HET enabled 163cc mill has a long stroke, which translates into extra torque and higher fuel efficiency. The engine is also equipped with a weight balancer which makes the engine even smoother than what Honda is known for. Small spines to the outer surface of the motorcycle improve cooling performance and help reduce distortion of the inner cylinder's shape. Centrifugal casting allows a thing, uniform wall thickness which helps in weight reduction. Even at low speed the engine gives good amount of torque.
The CB Unicorn 160 comes with wide handle bars and a short turning radius resulting in better maneuverability in slow traffic. The gear lever is not a toe shifter, but has a heel and toe shift, for more comfort in everyday commuting. It still lacks an engine kill switch which is a boon in traffic light infested urban traffic.
The bike also comes with Combi Brake System as optional, in which the use of one brake will automatically activate the other brake as well, thus giving the rider all round braking stability without worrying too much about braking. The rear brake though is a drum and would have been better with a disc of course.
The bike comes in 4 colours - Imperial Red Metallic, Pearl Black, Geny Grey Metallic and Sunbeam White. The two variants available are Standard and CBS equipped.
The CB Unicorn is expected to hit the market by the third week of January 2015.
