Exhaustec Patent to Bajaj Auto. TVS Apache RTR in Trouble?
EconomitcTimes.com
NEW DELHI: Two-wheeler maker Bajaj today said it has received a patent for a new technology, which has been a bone of contention with rival TVS
Motor Co.
"The Indian Patent Office granted Bajaj Auto a patent for its 'ExhausTEC' invention vide Patent No 231498 dated March 5, 2009. This grant was published in Patent Gazette, dated March 27, 2009," Bajaj Auto Ltd (BAL) Vice-President (Business Development) S Ravikumar said in a statement.
Bajaj Auto claimed that ExhausTEC significantly improves low- and mid-range torque (tendency of a force to rotate an object about an axis) in a single cylinder four stroke engine, employing a chamber of predetermined volume attached to the exhaust pipe.
"Bajaj has employed this innovation on its motorcycles since August 2004 in various models," Ravikumar said.
Earlier, BAL had applied for patent of this technology in 2004. Later, TVS unveiled a series of new products, which Bajaj alleged of patent infringement of its ExhausTEC technology and served notice to the Chennai-based firm in December, 2007.
As far as I remember, the Apache RTR also has a small resonator box fitted along the Exhaust piping.. does this mean a "Twin Spark Plug" like llegal battle between Bajaj Auto and TVS Motors..??

Always makes me laugh;
Bajaj tried to apply for a patent for a common knowledge innovation like twin spark plugs. Even some large capacity two stroke yezdi's had those to better propagation of ignition in a large volume cylinder
BMW/Ducati have been using them for ages as well.

Man o Man, what a big courtroom history ...
1. Bajaj vs TVS over DTSi
2. Bajaj vs Royal Enfield over 2 spark plugs
and now, 3. Bajaj vs TVS over Exhaustec?? Damn!
I wonder why Bajaj are NOT targeting HH, Honda, and the bigger challengers. Bajaj is getting strange now-a-days, challenging Royal Enfield!?
Stranger is that they discovered it NOW only ... RTR was here for so long...---

the patents body has gone nuts for sure...
Even TVS probably has gone lethargic...
Exhaustec is nothing but an exhaust resonator that TVS was using from the days of TVS Champ...
Intake & Exhaust resonators are widely used by many automobile companies worldwide...
OK, now, let us see which TVS bikes currently in the market have this...
RTR had it but the RTR Refresh & FI don't
Flame??? does it have an Exhaust Reasonator?
How about the Star's - 100 & 110 CC's???
Scooty?
Auto?
First we didn't understand how a technology patented by AVL in 2002 is patented to Bajaj much later - the twin spark plug row
Now the exhaust resonator...Last edited by HydBiker; 04-03-2009, 09:14 PM.

The RTR does not have a resonator since Jan 2008. No other TVS models have it except the TVS scooty Teenz 2-stroke and the TVS XL super 2-stroke which has a resonator since their launch in 1995 and 1997 respectively. Bajaj had then no clue of what the hell a resonance chamber was.
now they are talking about technology like as if re-invented the wheel.
The twin spark ignition is a world over tend to improve combustion and reduce emissions. The Honda has the i-DSI engines and so do a lot other makers. Bajaj claims they are the first to make a small engine with this tech. Do you need some superficial brains to replicate the tech on a multicylinder engine onto a lowsy pulsar head?
Anyways, TVS still beat Bajaj in their own game. Even with the so called DTSi tech, their 150/180 can stand no chance against a stock RTR which has a single plug and the most basic engine layout.
All this tech-gizmo bling bling is to get new customers.
The TVS flame has one of the best designed cylinder heads, and the twin spark tech was to improvise the swirl combustion. So why didnt they stop RE when they did it to the bullets?
Such crap logic can only sell in India. I wonder which court in India closed matters in favour of Bajaj. Damn, didnt twin spark ever exist before bajaj?
FYI a resonance box is a chamber which is used to boost the low-end-mid character of an engine while the engine is a bit peaky in nature otherwise. Its not gonna give you any extra horses and also the top-speed is always a restriction on engines with a resonance chamber.
Let bajaj fight this new exhaustec crap. Who cares!sigpic

If only Bajaj can Shuddup and refine their bikes rather than fighting over meaningless patents. All this stuff has been there for ages. Eons ago, Hondas had twin plugs and so did the Beemers. If anyone should be sued for patent infringement, it is Bajaj. Bajaj pointlessly went after the Bullets only to end up with it's tail between it's legs.

oh yes... forgot about it... it is a large one too... so Bajaj should sue Yamaha too... please Bajaj, please... sue Yamaha for this...Originally posted by chicane1879 View PostAnd even the FZ has a resonator(?) , so why aren't they considering it!!
May be they didn't attempt it as they didn't advertise a technical jargon name for that and maybe because it is a midship muffler and not a regular type exhaust!

BTW, what's next??? is Bajaj gonna claim a patent for their TRICS even? and then sue the whole world?
