Re: Kawasaki revealed the new Ninja 400
They already have Z250 which is not doing so good for them. I don't think they would ever bring the new Ninja 250 again. The pricing of Ninja 400 will be very important if they want to sell it in good numbers. The pricing of new BS4 R3 will also have an impact. It also depends on whether Yamaha launches the new R3 with any new added features or the same bike adhering to BS4 norms.

Look at the difference in hp vs tq.Originally posted by Samarth 619 View PostI felt that for a sportsbike, Ninja 300 had enough torque in the low and mid rpm. So, not quite much of a need to torque it up further.
Maybe the Ninja 400 has a hidden limiter for Euro A2 license compliance? I'm saying because its under 47 bhp.
If so, then I hope to get a full blown version in India, because the common public will compare it with RC390.. Now that Kawasaki is on its own (mostly), they have to look at the market before they launch anything.
The 300 makes 39 hp at 11K rpm while the 400 makes 45 hp at 10K rpm
The 300 makes 27 nm at 10K rpm while the 400 makes 38 nm at 8K rpm
The bigger engine makes 6 more hp at a thousand rpm earlier but the big story here is the torque - it makes 11 more nm, 2000 rpm earlier.
So yes, this engine is definitely tuned more for ease of commuting than the 300. And I am sure they could have extracted more power but they kept it at 45 for the A2 compliance.
Most importantly, finally Kawasaki got rid of this ages-old engine that started out back in ~1983 in the GPZ250, later known as the Ninja 250.
The same engine was then stroked out (from 41.2 mm to 49 mm, bore was the same at 62mm) to create the Ninja 300.
Finally they have come up with an all new engine that remains oversquare at 70x51.8 but this engine would also suit bikes like a hypothetical Versys X400 or a Z400 because it isn't as peaky.200 | 300 | 1200 BOXER

Re: Kawasaki revealed the new Ninja 400
A very interesting bike, but not sure they would want to replace the N300 with this because this will definitely cost much more in Rs than the meager 100cc, 6ps upgrade it gets. The N300 is right at the good spot for a beginner bike and also a nice street bike as well so I do not think they would replace this with 400 but feel the 400 might be offered in select markets to co-exist with 300.

Re: Kawasaki revealed the new Ninja 400
Do you think the existing owners would be able to retrofit ABS on their bikes ?
Same with the R3 owners.

300 is an old engine. No reason to keep it, if 400 is launched.Originally posted by sparky View PostA very interesting bike, but not sure they would want to replace the N300 with this because this will definitely cost much more in Rs than the meager 100cc, 6ps upgrade it gets. I don't think there's sufficient reason to justify keeping 300 with 400.
Only a fraction of a bike's price is involved in actual materials. Rest goes in fixed and variable costs of running a factory, contribution to past and future R&D, employee's salaries and other perks, dealer's margin, etc. That's why (sometimes) a 600cc bike is more expensive than a 1200cc bike.
In fact, since this 400 will gain new interest, it will actually bring tremendous sales growth to the company.
So, even if they price it close to Ninja 300, say about 10-20,000 more than N300, they'll still be gaining in terms of all the bikes that are selling out.
Of course, a little also depends on what parts are sourced locally and what all are imported. And supply too.
Yeah, I'm sure it has gained usable torque...Originally posted by tanay View PostLook at the difference in hp vs tq.

Although it must be tested to verify this, see Duke 390 for example, 35NM @ 7000 rpm, but at 2500-3000 rpm, its weaker than even a Ninja 300...
Finally great to have an all new engine. About time, I would say. That wet weight figure is awesome for a twin cylinder+faired Kawasaki!
I'm sure Kawasaki will do great, they're still the company to beat when it comes to build and parts quality in middleweight category.---

Expect it to be anything between 4.5 lacs and 5 lacs.A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

Re: Kawasaki revealed the new Ninja 400
EX-Showroom around 3.80-90 range my best guess which will mean under 5 lakhs on road price, if reaches 5 lakhs it will have negative psychological effect on prospective buyers who might wander away to Cheaper R3 which is 42PS or to Ninja 650Originally posted by krishna77 View PostExpect it to be anything between 4.5 lacs and 5 lacs.

650 doesn't have the looks, nor the superb cornering capabilities.

Re: Kawasaki revealed the new Ninja 400
I had called my local Kawa dealership they said they have no idea when it will be launched but offered cool discount of 50k on Ninja 300 . After conversation with the Sales rep i feel Kawasaki India still has few unsold N300 which is forcing them to delay N400 launch in India . Most likely Auto Expo 2018 will see N400 debut .
