  • Ducati planning on Scooters & Electric Bikes for the future

The Italian motorcycle brand Ducati is planning on bringing scooters & electric bikes into their portfolio sometime in the future.

    It has been
speculated since some time that Ducati has been looking to build electric motorcycles for some time now, but there was no confirmation. During the EICMA 2017 event, Edouard Lotthé, Managing Director of Ducati Western Europe confirmed that Ducati is planning a scooter project and also electric bikes.

He also stressed on the fact that Ducati at present is focused on converting the entire line up to Euro5 emission standards and therefore it is not expected to see scooters or electric motorcycles anytime soon and surely not before 2021.

    While speaking to the
Moto-Station at the EICMA 2017, Edouard Lotthé, Managing Director of Ducati Western Europe said, "Today, the things that have been confirmed, yes, Ducati will be entitled to electrification, yes Ducati will have the scooter in its range, and yes this future complement range will be proposed under the coat of arms Ducati. After, for the rest, to know if this future vehicle will be proposed also within the automobile, it is not determined, not more than the equivalent cubic capacity, on the product plans planned to date, it is not determined. A priori, this range extension will not arrive before 2021. Before that, we will focus on the Euro 5 standard." _ Translated from French to English in Google Translate.

It is to be observed that all the leading motorcycle manufacturers are showing interest in producing electric bikes like Honda, BMW, recently Harley Davidson and a US-based electric bike manufacturer 'Zero Motorcycles'. Adding to clean and the green movement in the automobile industry, it is also to be observed that the electric bikes are also producing maximum power & speed. For that record, in Isle of Man Zero TT racing the top speed record was 191 kmph. Going forward with more advancement and energy saving technology no wonder the electric bikes could replace the fuel motorcycles very soon. The future of electric motorcycles are not very far and already in its progression to takeover silently.
