  • BMW G 310 RR? Supersport variant of the G 310 R seen in Japan

As we mentioned in a previous post about the new BMW R 1250 GS, BMW Motorrad is looking to launch quite a few new models for the 2019 model year. Nine models to be precise. And now we think that one of them could be the BMW G 310 RR. It isn’t a far-fetched thought when one thinks about it. A fully-faired variant of BMW’s naked roadster? It is nowhere near as outrageous as a racer grabbing his opponent’s brake lever in an ongoing race. So, it is quite possible. But we are pretty sure that BMW won’t be launching the BMW G 310 RR here so as to prevent a direct competition with the TVS Apache RR310.

We have seen a lot of manufacturers follow the suite by launching a fully-faired version of a naked roadster. To be honest, almost all the naked roadsters give birth to a platform that almost always spawn a full-faired variant. Dukes and RCs, TNTs and Tornadoes are a few examples. This is done even on the bigger bikes like the Street Triples and Daytonas or maybe S1000 R and S1000RRs.

So it won’t be a surprise if BMW also decides to go down this road and launch a fully-faired version of the G 310 R. The name G 310 RR is synonymous with their nomenclature scheme for their bigger bikes. BMW can use this motorcycle to compete with the likes of Honda CBR300R, Kawasaki Ninja 400 and the KTM RC 390.

Spotted in Japan, during the BMW Motorrad Days celebration, the 2019 BMW G 310 RR is filled with Carbon fiber up to the brim and the fairing deliciously says G 310 RR. Now, this might just be a modded G 310 R but then again, that’s what usually the fully faired counterparts of naked bikes are. The bike shown in the photos though, looks to be a race trim and BMW might race it in the World Supersport 300 championship once launched. Or should we say if launched.
The bike seems to be sharing quite a few parts with its distant cousin, the Apache RR 310 like the design of the spokes or the suspension. But other than that it looks like a direct descendant of the BMW S1000RR like the gilled fairing or the nose for instance.

Whether this is real or not, whether this bike makes it to the market or not, we are quite sure that it won’t make it to the Indian market for the reason mentioned above, its direct competition with the TVS Apache RR310. But we are sure about one thing though. That it will be manufactured here in India and that alone would be a matter of pride.

This has got me excited because you can totally expect a TVS Apache R310 / 310 4V naked version which I hope will be superb!

Exhaust end can looks really cheap and badly welded. Are those stickers or real headlights?

Its a prototype track spec unit. Its not supposed to "look" good, its supposed to "perform" good. Hold your criticism until we see a production unit.

Probably will cost as much as the N650 here, because why not?
